So I just got my new core set home and saw the late announcement of on FFG's site and I noticed 2 images:

To those of you who don't have the new core set yet, that stat line is 2/3/4/0, yet the cards that came with the core set show 2/3/3/1.

I think I would have preferred the original version. TIE Fighters with shields don't feel like real TIE Fighters.

Do you think it's up to FFG whether a ship has shields?

I'd be surprised if Ep 7 mentions it one way or the other.
But the source books might.

That pretty much reduces you to the Fighter, Interceptor and Bomber. ![]()

Nono, I just mean actual TIE FIGHTERS with shields don't feel right. Not TIEs in general.
Probably needed a little tweak to give them a little crit negation power, in play testing. No issue with that, i like that it shows they do make changes and gives me confidence these stats and points are thought through,

Grand Admiral Demitrius Zaarin respectably disagrees.
(recently I fought off an escort carrier filled with shielded TIE/LN's. Of course Zaarin is a traitorous bastard, but still)
I would hope that in 30 years of getting blasted by X-Wings someone finally went: Sigh.... "Fine they can have a little bit of shielding... I guess..."

But even a little shielding is like a huge modification to a ship. They aren't cheap an expendable anymore once you put shields on them!
If the Empire got tired of their pilots getting shot down, then they should have just stop giving them TIE Fighters, rather than modifiying the TIE Fighters. They got plenty of awesomer TIE designs already.
I would have been way happier if, like, the TIE Avenger was the standard TIE of the First Order. ****ing it up again JJ!!
Nah, makes perfect sense. You got a whole load of TIE/LN Hulls, just remove the gubbins and put newer gubbins in.
It's like you're updating the avionics and weapon systems on a bunch of F-15s instead of buying all new F-22s.
For the amount of ships you are doing this for, and general expendability it makes sense. an all new "super-fly-TIE". Would be more expensive to produce.
Edited by DariusAPBI'm thinking that is from just a placeholder image, as it just runs 1,2,3,4 starting at pilot skill and moving down to right
considering this is a new and improved tie, some shields are in order
in fact, they might've even been the first order ![]()
Ah-ha! I was right! The back of the box in those classified images DID show 4 hull!

Who knows if these new ties were ever a product of the empire? Maybe The First Order wanted to use tie fighters for some reason instead of a different ship. Branding purposes.

Doesn't it seem entirely possible that the First Order doesn't operate like the Empire? Maybe they don't have access to bajillions of disposable pilots to fill those disposable ships anymore.

doubtful
"bad guys" and "disposable minions" are the PB & J of villain tropes

Well, things change too. 1TB of memory would have been unbelievably expensive and taken up a ridiculous amount of room 30 years ago. Today, no problem. Same could be true of shield generators in the Star Wars Universe. These ships are a generation later than TIE Fighters.

ah indeed, things change
so the next generation of Tie Fighters are only disposable relative to the new tech ![]()
I'm not saying they shouldn't have shields, mind, just that in story terms they're almost certainly going to be disposable baddies apart from some special ones like Phasma (if she indeed flies and FO tie)

Based upon the names of the pilots in the new core set, I would have to say that, yes, your assumption of disposable baddies is probably spot on.
So a lot of people complained that FFG doesn't update their articles when mistakes are spotted (another thread regarding SLAM).
Checked the article again today and we see they have in fact corrected the mistakes:

Alright, that's a fair point. I guess I don't really know what the First Order is all about yet.

I think it has more to do with more specific pilot names still being embargoed by Disney.
