So lets talk about which damgage deck we'll be using...

By Darkhorse659, in X-Wing

So with the new box set out and in distribution as of force Friday, which damage deck will be used in games?

We've seen evidence of a different deck in the new starter so will this become the new standard or will players be able to 'game' damage decks?

Thoughts?

Considering it looks like it may be considered 2.0, from a pic I saw earlier tonight, I think the local TOs may have a choice, V. 1 or V 2.0, for local tournies. Then the "big" ones will probably "have" to be the most current, or in other words, 2.0.

JMHO!

Disregard new damage deck! Upvote soviet bear and use the old damage deck!

I think the new deck is more fair overall, so that one.

There are a lot of good reasons to prefer that new dage deck that is on the Internet if it is real. You're going to own it anyways. Results are less dicey.

I was thinking maybe they could add a deck building element to the game. Must have 7 direct hits, and can brace a max of 2 of any card by name, x pilot cards, y ship cards. Basically same build as now, but customized.

At the start of each game you and your opponent traded damage decks, shuffle and play.

While I'm not a fan of requiring players to own a new damage deck, I kind of hope it replaces the old one. Every card in the deck effects a ship in some way. The old deck could "miss" by removing EPTS, skills, and weapons that may not exist on that ship. If your list was light on EPTs and secondary weapons you should always pick the old deck that has some dead cards in it. The new deck cannot "miss" so it slightly more fair. The old deck had to much chance of either doing nothing or completely wrecking you if you drew a card that discarded cards and skills you paid points for.

Very much this.

The current deck was redundant unless you ran literally one of everything on each ship.

The new deck looks like It'll deliberately effect every ship as it happens.

It's going to directly inconvenience Turretwing (always a plus), and really make people think about what they want to take, rather than "ha-ha Big Ships that most crits don't work against"

Am I going to own it? Am I really going to buy a new core set?

Depends...

I don't really want anything in the new core set, so unless the deck is sold separately then no!

What if it's required for tournament play?

less dicey and actually affects PWTs?

hell, if you don't have one I'd trade with you for the game :P

(just need to actually buy a new core...)

This makes me excited top play more hawks, now I can't lose my secondary weapon. Just need 2 copies of Khirazx

I plan on using the old until I actually get the new core set.

the one good thing about the new core imo is the damage deck. fine. i like it. though i would have hoped for a crew/astro killer.

ffg misinterpreted your order and put in a killer astro instead :P

The new rulebook only says that if you have both damage decks you should use the new one. It doesn't even say you must, it is just a suggestion.

The tournament rules might change that.

Of course, the new Damage Deck is much better...

I'd love something like this, though you run into issues with the new Structural Damage. It's the same penalty, but easier to fix.

I have to assume that they'll just mandate usage of the new deck for tourneys, which will be a slight buff to pilots like Soontir and Chirpy (no more Injured Pilot killing their expensive pilot abilities and EPTs).

I've always like the idea of having damage cards that would allow your opponent to select and upgrade and discard it and then one where the ship receiving damage decides. This would have gone a long way into keeping cards like, C3P-O, Advance Cloaking Device, and Twin Turbo Lasers from running the meta. It would have been the great equalizer.

not really

you have to be lucky enough to roll a crit against the hull, draw that crit, and all that before something as fragile as a phantom dies

it'd just be a dumb potluck to pile on top of already noticeable green dice woes

I love the new damage deck. Have two of them sitting right here. Seem much better balanced to me. I hope we just get rid of the old one entirely. However, I do hope they figure out a way to distribute it in an alternative way from the core set so people can get it cheaper than $40.
