Iniative bids in your area

By MoffZen, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello guys !

So, I'd be curious to see what are the initiative bids in your area after a few months of Armada ! Out of curiosity, in mine with very squadron heavy builds, they are roughly about 8 to 10 points. I was wondering if they're that big elsewhere :)

Cheers

Getting Initiative with a 2-4pt Bid 75% of the time.

I usually bid 8 points and get 1st player, but that's generally against the same 2-3 opponents so not a lot of variety...

I like to bid low and go first because I am good at first but lately I have been trying to get good at second.

sample size too small.

Alright, super small survey size (about half a dozen players) but it seems 8 points is the upper end of high, and 3-5 bids are the common initiative battleground. If it goes beyond 8, it's basically a guarantee (and it's almost certainly to support the 'Gencon Special' or some variation).

Sample size be damned, all of these go into the one bucket to create *its* Sample Size :D

That's the idea of the thread :D

Thanks for the answer, keep them coming !

My regular opponent has Metagamed me and spends 300 points, so I meta him back and spend about 298.

My one and only tournament I went for 292 and was second player twice by choice and was under bid by an opponent with 285.

To be honest as nears I can figure you will spend 298-300 as there isn't many 2 cost upgrades. Would you then count a 2 point as a bid or more as a "I can't spend the points" type of situation?

4-8 would be my choice if I didn't know the meta and was trying to get the choice to play my missions or go first. I think 9-15 would be somewhere in the order of, "I really must have the initiative and I am going to make it a sure thing."

The highest initiative bid i've seen and played with is 8 points. In both instances it was with a squadron heavy fleet.

Most common I see is 1-4. At gencon I had a 4 point initiative bid and got to choose in 4 of my 5 games.

between 4-6 points. And I will bid to go 2nd.

And with the few people we do play with seem to be starting to out bid me. Not so they can go 2nd but so they can make me go 1st. I don't like it...

They're being scared about your objectives :D

In my area, I tend to be the one who bids lowest when I do bid, and I don't bid much more than 6 points.

(And when I do, it's because I'd rather have the 3 points more bid than a Liaison.)

In all, I don't think people in my area don't seem all that concerned with the initiative bid.

I'll let you know as soon as there is a local scene...

Honestly, I tend to build to 296-299 constantly without thinking about it. Maybe I'm too silly to care about 1st or 2nd. I want to say I was rolling a 296 at the tournament I played a few months ago and other than the bye, I got initiative both times.

I'd normally bid ten to ensure I get player 1. Especially if I'm sure I've got more ships than the enemy.

i build my lists maxed where ever possible and pick objectives that make people wish they chose second :P

i lose the initiative most of the time but most people i play want to go second to use their objectives, no idea what thats all about

I had 3 for Aus Nationals and that was purely because I couldnt put anything else on what I wanted to run.I won imitative for all 3 games. Im pretty sure everyone else is doing the same.

My last game was against the other 3 VSD list and he was at 285 points.

In the tournament I was recently in, initiative bids were between 4-8 points on average. However, I follow the principle: spend the full 300 pts, pick some horrible objectives for my opponent, and I am relaxed whether I get first or second. First means I can unload Demolisher twice, second means I get my objectives. Win win!

I don't see the point of spending 10pts+ on initiative, when you could get some decent upgrades instead. I guess if you really want to play a certain objective - but the opponent has three to pick from, so they are going to pick the best / least worst for them.

I flew a 299 point fleet today and won the initiative bid in 3 out 3 games during the tournament.

I generally run at 296 points and have never been under bid.

That wouldn't have been the Dark Sphere tourny by any chance would it? ;)

The very one!

Looks like at least three of the four Darksphere tourney players are on these forums. Thanks for the games on Sat gents.

As per OP, one player at 299 and three at 300pts.
