*WABUMP* What was that? Oh, yeah, a shark...

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Kenner had the greatest stuff. Love it still.

I saw that last night at the midnight release but didn't pick it up to look at it, I figured it was just the Phantom. I actually kinda dig it. Since it comes with Kanan I wonder if it might show up in Rebels S2?

Edit: ok I like the art for it, but maybe not the actual model.

Well I remember owning this and it never made canon.vintage-star-wars-esb-mini-rig-vehicle-m

Didn't this turn up in Star Wars Commander?

Star wars toys will always be weird

If you fiddled with the proportions and stuff to de-toy-ify it that wouldn't look bad at all.

Of course, it is apparently named the "music television 7", which seems an odd name for a sci fi snowmobile.

There was a recon version of the Y-Wing called the "Longprobe" (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/BTL-A4_LP_%22Longprobe%22) which was variant of the single seat BTL-A4 model... but of course, that's probably gotten thrown out the door with the rest of the EU stuff

It should have been the v-wing

The length of my star-fighter isn't why they call me "Longprobe".

Are the same thing just a re-paint and re-release. Hasbro/Kenner has been making smaller affordable vehicles so that kids can actually get them for years. Like these that came out in the '80s.

I had most of these as a kid. No one was calling for the shark jump back then. Rather silly to try an pick something to death because you don't agree with it.

I seem to recall that all those old Star Wars toys were supposed to have been 'just off screen' in the movies. At least according to the fluff on the packaging.

The y-wing was famous for being slow and tough. Never would see it as a scout. Makes me sad that people developing these things don't look into the history of what they are changing.

Whereas the PBY Catalina was the epitome of a sleek and graceful craft, not to mention an agile dogfighter...

Scout planes are built for endurance not speed, the things they scout on don't go very fast

You are correct. But none of them were ever added as canon in the EU/Legends era.

I loved those old Kenner toys. I didn't worry about the fact that they were made-up crap vehicles, because it just meant there were MOAR toys available!!!!

I want to try to find that place again. I want to just enjoy this ride. :)

Scout bomber makes sense. Bombers often have long duration, and so are easily adapted to patrol roles. Think the PBY Catalina or P3 Orion.

So you're out on a long run, scouting out enemy forces and positions, and you, what, find a secret base and think "Well, I might as well blow this up on my own while I'm out here."

Hence the word 'adapted' in Biophysical's post. :P.

But they are rewriting history!!!

Wtf, is a scout bomber? That's, like, an oxymoron!

Actually it isn't. During WW2 the US Navy's primary carrier based bomber was the SBD Dauntless. The SBD stands for Scout Bomber, Dive. The Dauntless was used for scouting ahead of the fleet and, once the enemy was spotted, used to attack as a dive bomber.

guys it's just a fat and stubby version

Guess you never heard of the Longprobe?

I was always confused about the btl. It says it was modified to be lighter for scout-like duties but could also take a heavier load out and gear, making it a more effective bomber.

"Very well. Let's bomb them."

This is precisely what the US Air Force did years ago with their MQ1 and MQ9 drones - initially loitering in the air collecting intel when some genius decided to mount Hellfires on them. Scout Bomber IRL.

What even is happening with the Rebel there? Is he a captive somehow? Did he mistake it for a Tauntaun? -dying of laughter over here-

"Dude, plz get off." -snowtrooper inside, probably

Yup.
