Help with a solo Dunedain deck.

By silverthorn, in Strategy and deck-building

As the title suggests I've been trying to work out a solo all (or mostly) Dunedain deck. Does anyone have any suggestions for something which might stand a chance in the game.

In the Dunedain sucks thread Nickpes suggested a Halbarad, Loragorn, Beravor deck. I think this is a good place to start. Maybe he will post it. Personally I haven't been trying to force the archetype because I just feel that it has too many holes right now even though it is probably the one I have been waiting for most since the games inception.

Haven't seen the deck, but there isn't much Lore DĂșnedain stuff really. The archetype seems more oriented to a Tactics Leadership build, at least for the cards we have spoiled as of now, but also to focus on Tactics Aragorn. I belive that by the Battle of Carn Dum the archetype will be more fleshed out, as it will have a new Leadership DĂșnedain hero/heroine. I think she might be the key for the archetype in solo, with Halbarad and Aragorn. At least that's what I hope. But I bet there's gonna be new DĂșnedain allies in all spheres this cycle. There's already a Lore and Tactics one spoiled, so I assume there's gonna be a Leadership and a Spirit ally.

Hello

I copy from the Mount Gram topic. As Bullroarer Took wrote there are holes at the archetype yet, but I have managed to win all quests of Lost Realm and two first AP of this cycle with it and since i like to be thematic as possible i enjoy it. Do not own Ettenmoors yet. My most difficult win was the third quest of Lost Realm, but it is when i made most of the tweaking that produced the deck i will write. I tried again the first two after that and they came much out easier

It is not always exactly the same, but more or less ...

Aragorn (Lore)

Beravor

Halbarad

Allies (15)

2 x Dunedain Watcher

2 x East road Ranger

1 x Henamarth Riversong

3 x Ranger of Cardolan

2 x Sarn Ford Sentry

3 x Weather Hills Watchman

2 x Warden of Healing (or you can use Athelas instead)

Attachments (26)

3 x A Burning Brand

2 x Dunedain Mark

3 x Dunedain Warning

2 x Forest Snare

2 x Poisoned Stakes

3 x Ranger Spikes

2 x Resourcefull ( or you can use Heir of Valandil)

2 x Self Preservation

2 x Steward of Gondor

3 x Sword that was broken

2 x Wingfoot

Events (9)

2 x Forest Patrol

2 x Ravens of the Mountains

2 x Take no Notice

3 x Tighten our Belts

But as i said there are orher cards i may use like Expert Trackers

I am sure that it cannot stand heavy enemy quests, but the general idea is to have Sword the was broken on opening hand. Since you place it on Aragorn you can quest strong. Steward of Gondor goes on him too. Henamarth or Ravens of the Mountains help ready a hero with wingfoot and if you have resources you can change Dunedain Warning between heroes according to your needs. Burning brand is also important to save from shadow effects. I use Self Preservation cause since there are not many defencing possibilities there will be damage on heroes most of the time and healing is important. Always try to have enemy engaged to use Halbarads ability who also gets the Dunedain Mark attachment to attack

Any thoughts?

A litlle different aproach to the above deck I wrote, would be to switch Beravor with Idraen. But IMO it would defenitely need a second core set so that there could be at least two copies of Ring of Barahir to attach it on Aragorn (leadership or tactics), or have two copies of Celebrian Stone on Lore Aragorn. Thus Aragorn potentially could share sphaire with both Halbarad and Idraen, having Steward of Gondor on him. There are Dunedain Spirit allies like Northern Tracker and Greyflood Wanderer that are usefull. Warden of Annuminas is a little more difficult to use his ability.

Have never tried this aproach (have only one core set) though so maybe it would not work at all. I guess the idea with Ring of Barahir would be too difficult to handle since Lore could become available only through attachment, so possibly cards could go wasted, but the Celebrian Stone ad well as sword that was broken on Lore Aragorn with Halbarad and Idraen could be more viable

I think this is about as good as the Dunedain can do right now. I'm going to give it a try.

Intruders in chetwood and Deadmens dike will give you a hard time, but you will win easily the others. After you try any comments will be appreciated as i still try to find ways to make it better

I've been able to beat all of the quests in the current cycle with a Tactics Aragorn/Halbarad/Mablung deck.
Use Mablung for resource acceleration to pay for allies; I've been using eagles, but they could be replaced with other tricks. Get Gondorian Shield and Support of the Eagles on Mablung and he's a super defender. With each of the Heroes having two WIllpower, they can quest for a respectable amount for a Tactics-based deck. Get out Celebrian Stone and Sword that was Broken and the questing potential becomes pretty solid!

I know Mablung isn't one of the Dunedain, I just figure that he's partaking in a "Ranger Exchange Program". :P
