So, I thought I would make a list just for fun including a K-Wing and three A-Wings. Not intended to be at all competitive (though I would be very tempted to run it at a tournament).
-Esege Tuketu (33 pts)
-K-Wing (28)
-Recon Specialist(3)
-Advanced SLAM(2)
-Protoype Pilot ( 22 pts) (x3)
-A-Wing (17)
-Autothrusters (2)
-Proton Rockets(3)
Total: 99 points
The idea I got from Esege's ability, which allows friendly ships at range 1-2 to treat his focus tokens as their own when attacking. This allows the A-Wings to take actions other than focus and still be able to fire and modify their proton rockets. Once the prockets are away, they can focus on defence, providing I get Esege into range 1-2 of 2 of them, they could use his tokens for modifying attacks, and keep their own for defence, whether those be focus or evade. The Recon Specialist is of course there to maximise his ability, so more than one of the Prototypes can make use of his ability. Advanced SLAM allows Esege to get into range of his allies when he needs to, as the Prototypes will have already moved.
Pros: -4 ships on the board, getting to fly some of my favourite ships.
Possibility for a 15-die alpha strike with the Proton Rockets.
-Autothrusters, in my experience, are very useful even against non-turreted ships, giving an extra layer of defence at range 3 while getting set up to attack/ running away.
-I might well end up buying another Starviper.
Cons: -3 of those ships are PS1 with 4 hit points. Academy TIEs can sometimes turn the tide of a game, but they typically don't have 22 points invested on each.
All 4 ships only have 2-die primary weapons, and while one of those is a turret, if he SLAMs as much as I expect, that turret won't get to fire very often.
-If Esege gets focused down first, which he likely will be, those A-Wings will be quite vulnerable.
-Possibility of an alpha strike is just that, a possibility. One problem with proton rockets, as with any munition, is the very real potential of dying without getting to fire them.
-I might well end up buying another Starviper.
So, what are people's thoughts on this? Not necessarily competitive, I know, but is it fun? Would anyone change things round?
I could use Chardaan Refit instead of Proton Rockets to fit in Jake or Tycho, or I could reduce the number of A-Wings to two. The idea I went in with, however, was to maximise proton rocket A-Wings.
