Hey guys,
My buddy played this list against me the other day and I got smoked.
15 - Chewie
12 - Han
5 - Jyn
3 - Gideon
3 - R2-D2
2 - C3-P0
Basically he just finds a strategic position and clumps up Chewie, Han, Jyn, and C3P0 into a 2x2 square, preferably next to whatever the objective is.
When they're grouped up, you face a hard choice. Cunning, protector, and distracting stack up rather viciously.
Jyn gets +3 auto block, +2 auto surge cancel + white die
Han gets +2 auto block +1 surge cancel + white die
Chewie gets + 2 auto surge cancel + black/white die
C3-P0 gets +1 auto block +1 surge cancel + white die + reroll
Ideally he keeps C3-P0 in the corner farthest from the enemy as he is the squishiest. Assuming you can't get to 3P0, you face a hard choice. Jyn has the least health but greatest native defense. Han gets to fire back if your attack doesn't do damage. Chewie has the least native defense but he also has the most health and rolls two dice.
It's low on number of attacks, but with two focuses, you're still getting 12 dice onto the board each round, assuming Jyn quick draws. 15 dice if R2 and Gideon attack too but that doesn't usually happen.
The only weakness is mobility. Low figure count, low movement points, and each figure is pretty squishy when not grouped up, I could see it struggling on certain objective based maps.
What do you guys think? Have any of you played with or against it yet? Is it a competitive list or just gimmicky?
Has anyone tried the "Smuggler Deathball"?
This squad is pretty cool. It has plenty of damage output and survivability. However, it also has some big weaknesses:
1. It is extremely vulnerable to being flanked
2. It can really only hold 1 objective at a time
3. It also needs to be grouped tightly together in order to work.
Therefore, I think you have 3 tactics that you can use to exploit its weaknesses:
1. Don't come straight at it. Charging down the barrel of a howitzer and expecting to live...these are two mutually exclusive things. Flank them; come at them from as many angles as possible...3P0 will be vulnerable from at least 1 angle.
2. Take all of the other mission objectives. For example, in Close to Home (Luke's Map), you can get 3 of the water crate objectives while they only get 1. After that, you can surround them and pick your targets.
3. Pounce on them when they have to move. They can only move 1 guy at a time, which will inevitably leave somebody ripe for the picking. Especially things like Element of Surprise will go a long way and will be easy to use in this case, since the Rebel squad is so slow...that means you can more easily set up your attacks for when they do move.
Once 3P0 drops (should be pretty quick) things will start to go downhill fast. 3P0 and Gideon should be your preferred initial targets, unless you have a way to remove Jyn's white dice and can one-shot her (playing Element of Surprise with a Focused character, for example)...she would be a good target if you get that chance.
Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.
3. Pounce on them when they have to move. They can only move 1 guy at a time, which will inevitably leave somebody ripe for the picking.
!!!
Score more points trough objectives and wait... no one likes a camper. ;-)
But if you want to face him:
Element of surprise on C3-PO and he's dead. With focused Rebel Saboteurs you could easily Blast 4 while killing C3-PO... the other Sab finishes Jyn during the same activation (if she doesn't dodge, but maybe you got lock on as well).
Vollie
Also Elite Sabs have Priority Target, so put some guys in front of them, and Jyn can't activate Hair Trigger on you because she can't LOS you.
I play this list and it works fine when I split it as well, Chewie goes one way, usually with 3PO and Han, Jyn Gideon the other, with R2 going for what ever terminal he can make or hangs out with 1 of the groups, if possible I will try to keep 3PO with Han and Jyn for more distraction, and with most models focused they kill stuf fast and even R2 can hurt stuff.
i played this list a couple of times but the imobility is gamebreaking...and if you split them they don't shine that brite anymore...my solution is to switch Chewie for 2 elite sabs and balance of the force...that works ok
Edited by xarathornxbecause of the tight grouping required for this list it is extremely vulnerable to AoE damage like blast effects, last resort, and Grenadier
blast is no problem because every modell has 2+ evades...but auto AoE dmg yes
