Thoughts on 4 ship rebel list (Jake and the Neverland TLTs)

By OdyM, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Thinking about running this squad in an upcoming tourney:

PS 7 (9) - •Jake Farrell (30pts) [Autothrusters (2pts), Proton Rockets (3pts), Veteran Instincts (1pts)]

PS 2 - Rebel Operative (22pts) [Twin Laser Turret (6pts)]

PS 2 - Rebel Operative (22pts) [Twin Laser Turret (6pts)]

PS 2 - Gold Squadron Pilot (26pts) [Twin Laser Turret (6pts), •R3-A2 (2pts)]

Thinking of keeping the HWKs and Y-wing running along the outside to take Range 2-3 TLT shots and turning the Y-wing in occasionally to try and give stress. This would give me at least 6 shots from these guys a round. Use Jake to flank and take a big shot with Prockets. I figure most opponents would try and go after the grouping of TLTs first.

Some changes I'm considering....

Put the BTLA title on the Y-wing to try and double stress? This would limit my arc, but benefit of double stress and a third shot from the primary weapon in Range 2-3.

Do I remove the Prockets on Jake and maybe go with the Push the Limit and A-wing Test Pilot?

Feedback greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think your Jake options will come down to testing and personal preference. The Proton Rockets are simply amazing, but they are even better when you can set up that TL AND Focused strike. A Procket with just a focus is OK against many targets, but you really want that extra action to get the TL in there...and without PTL, you have to set it up in a previous round and sometimes give away the target you want to focus down first by taking that action. Keep in mind that if you take off Prockets you could use Chardaan Refit and net you two more points to put elsewhere in the list. Something to think about.

The Title on the Y-Wing I am not an expert on, but you need to answer the following question in order to decide: Do you have the gold in there purely for the stress control factor or do you want some versatility to fire at out of arc targets that your operatives are attacking (focus fire)?

I would usually prefer the out of arc shots (no title), but it is also important to consider how you fly your list. Generally, Gold Stress will be your opponent's number one target, so if you are going to joust strait at them to trigger that stress and then turn your ships away, maybe the title would be good to make him more of a threat. It also makes them choose between Jake and Gold Stress if you engage your targets at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback Deepspace5.

I really like the stress bot, so I agree with you and put on the title. I will have to just joust head on with the y wing to get the double stress mechanic. I also removed the TLT on there, and just put the ion cannon. I also put on PTL on Jake, but couldn't find enough points for the Prockets. Had some leftover points to put a RS on a HWK. In the end, I'm hoping that the opponent will have to decide vs. the Y wing and A wing first. Joust with the Ywing, flank with the A wing, while the TLTs slow roll forward and around the board.
