Modifying Battle Foam

By saturnflight, in X-Wing

I just got a nice BattleFoam case with custom layouts. Of course, the problem is they're always adding new ships to the game.

Anyone have advice on DIY techniques for repurposing slots for new ships?

I can double up As, Xs, etc... so I can mod old slots to new shapes, if I can do some decent cutting.

Not the answer to your question but: For me the best "foam"/transport box are still the original plastic cases the ships are packed in. The outer border sizes are all the same whereas the inside is ideally formed for the particular ship.]

I purchased the same load out as well from battle foam and I love it. That being said, it is an expensive way to keep your ships. If you're ok with that then just purchase a new foam load out when the ships come out. I just placed an order for the new wave seven stuff. The custom tray creator they use is nice because you can fit all factions into one tray if you want. I usually add the new ships and some that I play often. I have cut foam from certain areas of the ones I use to fit ships I play more than others.

If you buy a custom load out say P.A.C.K. 720 case which has 12" of foam. You can use 6" now and save the rest for later. That's what I did. I used some of mine initially and then they kept track of how much I used so that later when more ships come out I could just use the rest then. You do have to pay for shipping when you get more but it was still cheaper overall.

An X-acto knife will do wonders with a nice dense foam. A little patience and you can have a very nice looking custom layout.

I was thinking exacto was the way to go. I have the patience, & I would like to think the skill, to do that. I was wondering if anyone had a technique, such as tracing around the ship or something like that.
