Class Skills vs. Additional Class Skills

By Kranky Panda, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hey all,

New to the game and the forums. I tried searching for an answer to what is probably a dumb question, but could not find one. It's possible I just missed it in the rules, and if I did, please point me to a page number.

What is the difference between a Class Skill in a specialization and the Additional Class Skills? I've noticed some of them have the same skills listed, such as subterfuge as a class and additional class skill.

Thanks for any help.

From what I understand there is no real difference. The overlap is there because there's a limit to how many "free" ranks you get at character creation. You get a certain number for your class and a certain number for the specialization.

The "Career Skills" listed at the top of each specialization's talent tree are simply a reiteration of what skills are on your chosen Career's Career Skill List . You get 1 rank in any three of these for free at character creation.

The shorter list of Bonus Career Skills, listed second above the specialization's talent tree, are actually attached to your Specialization. You get 1 rank in any two of these for free at character creation. Additionally, if you were to purchase another Specialization, you add its Bonus Skills (and only its bonus skills) to your career skill list.

Partly the duplication between the career skills and specialization bonus skills are so you can take two ranks of those skills out of the gate. But the bonus skills also help define the core of that specialization, worth looking at if you want to branch into another spec.

There is no silly question. Those guys answered it, the bonus career skills are important when advancing later on and getting another specialisation. The career skills are important during character creation, but your PC only ever has 1 career, so they don't need to be looked at later when spending experience.
