Cry "HAVOC!" and let slip the dogs of 'Zor!

Xizor's always been a tricky pilot to use - his ability is generally one you build a list around. Z-95s are the obvious choice, but 5 Binayre Pirates requires three Most Wanted expansions, not something that everyone is able or willing to buy!

However the YV-666 expansion opens up some new options for Xizor's escort.

The dogs of 'Zor

- Prince Xizor (Starviper)

  • Veteran Instincts
  • Virago
  • Advanced Sensors
  • Autothrusters

- Trandoshan Slaver (YV-666)

  • Hound's Tooth

- Binayre Pirate (Z-95)

- Binayre Pirate (Z-95)

Total: 97 points

This list actually increases Xizor's survivability, having 24 ablative hit points in total compared to the 5 Z-95's 20. The deployment of the Pup can also give Xizor some interesting options - there are a lot of deployment choices so more chance of covering Xizor's eventual position when it appears. It also adds another 3-dice attack with a very nice arc.

On the downside, overall firepower is lower - it's two ships down to start with and one overall. Fewer ships means fewer positions for Xizor to reposition to, although the larger base of the Hound's tooth partly counteracts this. Finally it's harder to fly small and large base ships in formation.

Tactics-wise I see Xizor sticking more or less with the main group - he doesn't have to worry about friendly collisions with the Advanced Sensors. He's then virtually guaranteed to reach the end-game, where he's going to be pretty nasty for most opponents to deal with.

Are these trade-offs worth it? Will it get more people playing Xizor who didn't have the right escorts before? What are the last three points for, and can anything be changed?

I know I've always preferred Guri to Xizor because I only have one box of Most Wanted. I'll definitely give a similar lost a try one I get the Hound's Tooth, I really want to use Advanced Sensors on a StarViper but Guri's pilot skill isn't hough enough for me to justify the upgrade on her.

I feel like the last few points should be spent on a few offensive upgrades. Like you said earlier, the list has less firepower than a traditional Xizor list, and some ordnance or illicit upgrades could help counteract that.

I actually prefer Guri's ability as well, but Xizor has one big advantage - the ability to get to PS9. Combined with advanced sensors that creates the potential for some very nice end-game arc-dodging and repositioning shenanigans.

Dropping the Title on YV-666 ought to give you room to squeeze in Latts Razzi - she'll still take all the extra hits from Xizor while also dropping your opponents agility with her PS ability.

It's a cool concept, but it might be tough to keep your Slaver in formation with Xizor without bumping.

Giving the Slaver Greedo would help ensure he gets focused before Xizor.

For 3 points you could add a hot shot blaster to the YV-666, thus largely negating any attempts to dodge his arcs by your opponent.
