Scum List idea, TBC + Fett + N'dru. Thoughts?

By ThatStarwarsGuy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, there's a local tournament coming up, and rather than making the smart choice and swarming with Tie Adv. or bringing out the emperor, I've decided to represent the dregs of the universe and play a little scummy.

The main thing I wanted was to put Talon out on the table and throw five dice at someone and make them hate their life, but I was first pairing it with Mangler'd M-3A's and Serissu, which although fun, didn't work very well. Next, I came up with this:

TBC Fett Suhlak

99 points

PILOTS

Talonbane Cobra (31)
Kihraxz (28), Crack Shot (1), Glitterstim (2)

Boba Fett (49)
Firespray-31 (39), Proton Bombs (5), Inertial Dampeners (1), Slave-1 (0), Ion Projector (2), Extra Munitions (2)

N’Dru Suhlak (19)
Z-95 Headhunter (17), Lone Wolf (2)

In my head, this list is technically capable of dealing with a whole pile of stuff; Boba can deal with swarms handily, and with Proton bombs and Ion projector + space brakes, he just gets better at it. Talon typically doesn't survive more than one or two rounds, but people get so scared of him that they will happily give me board control to get good shots at him. And N'dru is just solid in general, and should shine because he's such a non-threat compared to the rest of the list.

Possible problems might be that despite my bombs, a properly flown swarm will still chew through my ships without too much trouble. I'm also pretty sure that this list will lose to thug Y's, but I need to test it to make sure.

What do you guys think? Different upgrades? Bad list in general? Input would rock.

Your Boba Fett loadout looks like it would be more at home on Emon Azzameen. Have you considered swapping pilots to free up an extra three points of upgrades?

I agree. As someone who's flown a lot of Scum Boba, I'd recommend sticking with VI + EU (+tactician) for the best value. Glitterstim should be an auto-include for him now too.

You happen to have two very high-PS ships but no maneuver modifiers to take advantage of it against arc-dodgers. I think EU on Boba and maybe LR on Talonbane should solve that issue.

I've tried N'dru a dozen of times and I'd say he paid off 50% of the time for me. You might be better off investing in some blocking meatshields for Talonbane so he doesn't get alpha'd or blocked himself.

For example:

Boba Fett [VI, EU, Glitter]

Talonbane Cobra [inertials, LR]

Binayre Pirate

Crack shot + glitterstim are excellent choices on talonbane.

Boba's loadout is a bit iffy. Proton bombs work better with Veteran Instincts. Ion projector is not good unless you have some other upgrades to make it more reliable. Inertial dampeners is good on him though and often allows him to get some use out of his pilot ability. I'm not sure you need two proton bombs however---its often difficult to get one off, and two is sometimes not even needed even when you get one to hit...

I disagree with the TBC choices. How do these two upgrades optimize his ability? I think the best way to run him is classic ace, PTL and Engine Upgrade. Then you have the option of taking glitterstim if you have the two points to spare. This will allow you to abuse his high pilot skill and always position yourself to make the best use of his ability.

The Khiraxz dial is not Push the Limit friendly. 1 + 2 banks and 2 straight is an extremely limited choice of manoeuvers, and you are just asking to get outflown by savvy opponents. Plus, stressing yourself closes off the very effective k-turns, further limiting your options. I can see predator, and I think engine has its uses if you've got the points, but ultimately, throwing points on Talonbane is risky since he is so easy to kill. The nice thing about crack shot + glitterstim is you have one near guaranteed 5 dice shot with TL + focus and the option to negate one evade result. Can't get any more devastating than that...

I can see HyddHwk's point about TBC...because glitterstim causes that stress as well. Keep in mind that you don't always need to PtL just because you have it, but if you fail to do it and then die, then it was a waste.

I like the option of control on Fett for the OP's list, but I do agree that Tactician and EU might be better, or even Tactician and Ion Projector. Not having some kind of EPT like VI or crew like Tactician doesn't sit well with me. I would choose those things over the Proton bomb and EM. If you need more points, try downgrading to a single seismic charge or ion bomb along with EM. Could you imagine dropping an ion bomb on someone and then getting that range 2 tactician shot? I'm normally not a huge EU fan, but it works great on the Firespray because of the rear arc.

So, 2 reasons why I have Cobra upgraded the way he is:

1) I'm bad, so I don't tend to get mileage out of classic ace, ha.
2) I expect him to get alpha'd or focused heavily, so I'm really afraid of investing a lot of points and not seeing it return.

With that, Glitterstim (to me) is the "I really screwed up and need to hit all my rolls or I'm going to die" upgrade, and crackshot makes him hit harder when it needs to, so as long as he shoots more than once and hits hard, I'm fine with him getting blasted.

Boba is the one where I had a lot of problems with upgrades, because I wanted to mess with new stuff, ha. If it doesn't work, I'll probably just do VI+EU+some crew? I'm not so sure about glitter on Boba, because I feel like his ability does enough heavy lifting that glitter might be unnecessary, but I'd give it a shot before disregarding it

I took N'dru cause I like him a lot, but I'm a real big fan of having 2 pirates for blockers, so I think I'll end up doing that in the long run.

Thanks for the input y'all! You guys rock.

While I can see an argument for glitterstim being used that way, I've used it more as a "i need to do an action other than focus" or "i'm too close to Jax or Palob" upgrade. Its pretty devastating on Boba with an EU, using it to boost into range 1, then use glitterstim to further punch up your offense and defense.

I agree with the people saying you should switch Boba out for Emon too. Free's up 3pts that you could use to put Cluster Missiles on N'Dru.
