6 6 6 (The end is coming!)

By Nynox, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm considering a devastating control - death dealing list, and, even with obvious disadvantages, I think it may work well enough depending on the oponent.

The thing is you let Vessery do the hard job after our dear friend Deathrain put people to run in a straight line.

Anyone could absorb Rebel Captive stress if the enemy is in sight, and Dark Curse can act as a TL provider if Deathrain fails to do so, or is busy/dead doing something else. What do you think? TLT lists may be the worst opponent, but even then, it has some mobility to make it suffer a little.

Need to do testing, because I'm considering a Doomshuttle, but it would cost Vessery's HLC. What do you think, guys?

I don't like the ion pulse missile on deathrain due to the difficulty of hitting high PS targets with it. I would change it to a proximity mine at the very least, since deathrain's damage output is crap otherwise (and leaving your entire list's damage dealing to a single ship, Vessery, is hamstringing it, imho)

Cool looking list! I do wonder about deathrain though - what's his best setup, and should he be focussing wholly on bombs, given his ability? How about accuracy correcter instead of fcs, and prox mine in for ion pulse? Sometimes you just want your bombs to **** well hurt, after all... Also, two bombs can go pretty quickly, in my limited experience with punishers... You'd have to drop outmaneuver tho ... maybe for calculation or crack shot? You could give vess the present of a twin ion engine too, leaving you exactly on 100 points again.

Also, I'd stick with DC&TC, I've used it with vess before, and he appreciates it! No-one likes shooting at DC... :D

Ok, Ill explain that Deathrain. That heavy control provided by the nets and ion missiles mean usually, that there is a target that won't be able to focus you properly. At the start of the game, you chose a target enemy pilot with higher PS. You ideally will try toshot him the first engagement turn, so you get a TL. Ideally, you will, if not... IS MERELY A SETBACK.

Next turn you conner him, then barrel roll to be able to shot him an ION PULSE MISSILE. His maneuver after your bomb will be a 1 straight. Then you ionize him with your missile during the combat phase si his next turn will also be a 1 straight. Then you have 2 potential situations.

1- If the enemy is a big ship, you keep ionizing him until the max of 4 turns. If you engage in the middle, he's most likely being shown out. You escort him carefully out of the table. Especially useful against IV IGs.

2- If showing him out is not an option, focus fire him those 2 turns with Vessery. Vessery is basically the actual DEATHRAIN. 4 dice, no modifiers at long range, TL, and most likely focus and -1 agility. I don't have much more to say, he's beautiful, a shredder and a sniper, all in one.

You can always have Dark Curse as a spotter given the situation, your worst enemy would be those new pesky TLT, and even then, you have some chances. If the enemy has a rebel captive, let Dark Curse be the stressed... and I don't know, I'll figure out the rest :)

I really can't see this working against certain opponents. You'll never get a pulse missile on dash or soontir for example, unless they are flown poorly. However, if you feel you've got it figured out, then more power to ya!

If I'm reading the list right, the Pulse Missiles are more for big ships that need to be controlled over time. The Connor Nets should be plenty sufficient for wrecking Corran or Fel.

The main change I'd make is swapping Dark Curse for Backstabber. Dark Curse will just be ignored. Backstabber gives you extra damage earlier (helpful for the TLT meta) and will punish the opposing squad for going after the juicier targets.

It was in my mind since the first time, giving more valid targets to my enemy may force him to choose poorly, depending on the situation. Backstabber is pretty solid. In the other hand, you know dark curse is going to provide a TL for Vessery until there is no Vessery, but his damage is lacking.

You have a good point :)
