Material for mixing all 3 games

By vLabz, in Game Masters

Hi,

sorry if that has been asked but I didn't any info about that: most of us will want to mix all 3 games, as the game authors may suggest. It looks like it will run very smoothly because to be honest it is just one big game (I only own EotE and AoR so far but it looks like 3rd game continues that way).

I don't see any "unified game master's screen", I'm sure it is possible to do something for that. Is there a community project for that or better, an official product?

I am not at ease with all the game master's kit so far, because what we will need is actually a mix of them and then we won't use the first ones anymore...

For me, not mixing the games is not "respecting" the star wars universe where parties are made up of very different people: frindge people, rebels and jedis...

I wonder also if there will be a new line of products with adventures that target such mixed parties.

Thanks for your answers !

Nothing yet. It's possible, but it's unlikely as there really isn't much need. As you noticed the cores are essentially the same, so the majority of the differences between the lines are theme oriented.

There's really no need for a "unified GM Screen" as all three screens feature the same tables for Advantage expenditure, Critical wounds, Ect. The only big differences are in the supplementary rules/adventure book that each screen comes with. Both the rules and adventures are fairly optional and Core specific, so no real priority on duplicating them, and a fan version would probably infringe copyrights.

If you're thinking about a screen I suggest you look at what your campaign will likely need and just pick the screen that supports it.

EotE - Nemesis advancement.

AoR - Squads and Squadrons

F&D - Knight Level Play and Lightsaber construction.

If you're not interested in any of those, or the associated adventures.... just pick the one with the coolest artwork.

I don't have the other two GM Screens (just Force and Destiny). When I do get them... because I want all the other stuff that comes in the kit... I will probably go with the one that I like the most and then photocopy different information on the other two and use binder clips on my main one. That is... if I ever get around to using the screen. I keep intending to, and about halfway through a session realize I never put it up and that we're still having fun.

Probably once I get a larger table for my stuff I will use the gorgon-screen...

With regards to the screens themselves, they are almost identical between the three games. There are very, very few changes from one to the other.

Between EotE and AoR, I think I noticed two weapons were different, and that was it. I think there might have been just one thing that was different with F&D.

Now, the adventures that are packed with the respective screens, and the rules that come with them, that’s a different matter. But the screens themselves are almost identical. You’ve got to look close to spot the minor differences.

Each of the charts have page references, so I recommend getting a screen for a system you already own, in case you need to make use of those page number references.

Ahh, fair enough. I was thinking about just the raw content on the screens themselves, and not things like page references.

Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks a lot for your answers, I feel very much relieved!

I wrongly suspected that the GM screens had several differences (maybe because of new abilities, weapons, variants), but I'm happy to see that they are almost interchangeable.

Thanks a lot !!!

Its the books that come with them that have the cool stuff in them!

We have 3 screens now (2 edge, 1 age, a FaD on the way) and we use the screens as quick reference guides around the table, reducing the need for looking at the crit charts in the books. I dont ever bother hiding any of my rolls, so never have 1 standing up in front of me, its more fun when the players can have an input on the Threat/Despair that NPC's roll!

On a personal note i feel like a screen makes for a GM vs PC atmosphere and thats not right for our table.

I disagree on the note that the screen enforces a GM vs PC mentality, if that is there it is usually because either the players haven't fully read the rules or the GM creates that atmosphere.I personally have one in front of me when I GM as I have seen too many game days end when the GMs technology fails either because of a lack of power or when he doesn't save sheets and exits the document.

I do agree with your GM vs PC comment, I was just saying my personal preference (I like to feel like we are all players, my PC is just a bit more complex!)

What type of GM screen requires power? I was saying I have 2 EotE GM screens, 1 AoR and a FaD GM screen that we use for Quick lookup of Crit tables, weapon Qualities etc. We have a concrete No Electronic Devices rule (unless someone is Skyping in as they couldn't make it to the venue)

I am a player in a game that is using all 3... I will explain.

I am In a AOR Campaign Engineer/Scientist spec.

I took EOE Force Sensitive Exile as a Spec since i did not like the Emergent as it did not fit my background.

Over the last year real time of play i have been working with an NPC who has helped me grow and now in the next few sessions i will be taking a FND spec of Soresu defender.

The three systems integrate wonderfully.

I use Duty and Morality. As part of the alliance i have a commanding status for equipment and operations (Duty) and yet i have to ensure I fight the empire in a way that does not compromise my principles of life (morality)

I would love to enforce a no electronics rule but unfortunately the Host and several others in my group will not follow it.Also the two other GMs in our group use laptops as GM screens.
