What's the Oicunn Ion Projector combo??
devotedknight thread?
The combo itself is Oicunn, APL, Palpatine, though I think Sable had Predator as well so Oicunn can shoot other stuff competently while bumped.
It leverages Palps to guarantee an ion application from Ion Projectors, so that the target is caught in a bump-damage-ion loop and eventually dies.
meh. Oicunn goes down pretty fast.
Anyone tried this?
Oicunn doesn't go down very fast if you have half of a two ship list permanently unable to shoot Oicunn because they are touching and Oicunn is shooting the other half of the list while Vader chases it around.
You still gotta force a head on collision with oicunn, which isnt super easy.
Doesn't even need to be head-on, just enough of an angle to prevent the 1-straight from jumping his base. At that point his 1-straight won't jump either.
Also the Decimator's a large with a 4-straight and the full selection of 2/3-speed moves, no reds. It's hard to dodge if it wants to bump you.

It's just some trademarked SableGryphon crazy ****. If you can pull it off it is hilariously effective but it's not going to shake the foundations of the meta. If you were flying against an opponent that didn't know what to expect you'd probably surprise the hell out of them. When people know what the combo does it will be harder to lure them into the inital bump.
I do have to say that it has me thinking that any ship I put the Emperor in is probably going to have APL or Ion Projectors if I can spare the points.
Edited by WWHSDGIvem Palpy so you always ion, too.
Not quite head-on. Hard turns that bump are a thing. So's Expert Handling, ensuring that you can reposition to let 'em ram you without having had to veer off-course to begin with.
If you have just a 2 ship build, chances are one of them if not both are large based ship, you are going to have to ion the ship twice to keep it from not moving. and if Soontir or Corran is flying anywhere near Oicunn, chances are they aint winning the game anyway. So functionally sounds fun, but it isnt going to do very well against anyone who knows what they are doing.
well, if the bumped ship is capable of barrel roll you wont hold it for long.

The bumped ship is not getting any actions.
Arvel could possibly counter it...
OMG, Did we just make Arvel useful?

List-specific so probably not.
I mean, he's certainly fun with Intimidation, but...
IGs and Swarms will kind of eat it up. I think its really good against 2 ship builds that aren't IGs or Chewbo and against 3 ace ship builds. Other than that its a pretty niche list. I'll have to try it sometime though.

Pretty sure this and HT is why they made this a dice roll and not automatic

Except with Emperor crew... it IS automatic.
But ya if it was automatic that would just be insane. haha

Yeah. It's expensive, it's tricky to pull off, and its effectiveness drops off substantially as the number of ships in the opponent's list climbs.
Does Palpatine get to modify the IP die?
It counts as a die belonging to the decimator?
Also only works on small ships are there many 2 small ship builds?
This will be a good "annoyance" build. It will go nicely with my full y-wing ion build. I don't plan on winning. I just want to tick off my friends.
It's sure useful for picking off small base aces.
It's also possible to block off escape routes so the opposing large ship has to bump again.

And it doesn't need both ships in the enemy's build to be small. If it can lock down and kill Soontir/Corran/Vader by inches it cuts the enemy firepower in half while still being able to use all its guns reasonably effectively. That's nice, if it can be pulled off.
It's fun. Big O is fun in whatever flavor you play him. This one is just as fun.
i played a version of it last weekend, my biggest trouble was PWT's and i was using Deathrain to try and funnel ship towards Oicunn, Deathrain is good but not with Oicunn.
