Oh you get what I mean
Report the Disney wiped clean the Expanded Universe!!!
Grand Admiral, you mean? That is good news, I haven't been keeping up on the comics other than pulling Ark Angel screenshots and a bit of the Lando one.All I really know is that the Story Group allowed Kieron Gillen to bring back the Grand General rank. There is really one reason to allow that, imo...
Besides. the Darth Vader comic is all sorts of awesome, that I don't even really miss Dark Horse anymore.
Nope. Grand General Tagge is sort of Vader's rival at the moment (Tagge apparently left the Death Star and got a promotion). Grand General did exist in Legends, apparently. And if you have Grand Generals, it only makes sense to have Grand Admirals. And, once again, there is really one reason why you would want to have Grand Admirals...
As for the Vader comic, it is one of the best depictions of Vader. It really shows him as a Sith Lord, sort of like how Clone Wars made Maul a bit more cunning.
This is the current official canon.

Everythig else is gone for now. I liked the Thrawn books, some more of Zahn's books as well as the X-Wing books.
Zahn, Stackpole and Allsten did write some really good stories. Shame to see them all go away.
I'll never understand the hate the eu gets. I would say 90% of those novels were very good or great.
It's been well over a year and people are still learning this?
EU ships will still come out, wave 8 has 2 of them for the scum.
I think the bounty hunter ships are Special Edition edits.
Based on how they've done things before, I'm going to guess that Wave 8 and/or 9 are somewhere between product design and initial play testing already, if not further along. FFG, and by the core of that.. Disney/LFL, already know what they want to hype over the next year or two at least. And yeah, Disney are the undisputed kings and queens of efficient and effective product marketing and tie-ins.

None of the bounty hunter ships to be added were edited in at any point in time.
The Hound's Tooth had brief appearances in other canon material, but that is it.

...but they aren't gone. They are Legends, which is still there....unless they want to overwrite it with something else. It's not like it didn't happen. They might redact it in the future and put something else over top of it, but it's there until it's not there. That's a huge difference than just wiping it away and saying none of it happened.

A big part of it was that it was over-bloated. All the main characters had, by the end of it, spent decades of their lives (before, during, and after the OT) having non-stop zany adventures and life or death situations, and then their kids did the same. I really don't know when Han Solo actually found time to "smuggle" anything, because he spends his entire life getting swept up in epic tales.
And there was plenty of bad stuff as well: clones out the arse (clone Luke! clone Palpatine!), generally terrible ideas (Yuuzhan Vong), plot stuff that made zero sense (Boba Fett training people to fight Sith Lords, despite never fighting a Sith Lord... also Boba Fett deciding to abandon his life of scummy bounty hunting to become a leader of noble warriors because he's... the son of a guy that was from that culture sorta?). Oh, and Hutt dark Jedi. And, while fun games, Vader had a SECRET APPRENTICE THIS WHOLE TIME DUNDUNDUNNNN. Weird little kitten Jedi thing. The space rabbit.
90% is optimistic, I'd say. Shadows of the Empire was fun. KOTOR/TOR Bioware stuff is glorious. Jodo Kast will always hold a special place in my heart. But a lot of it was pure, simple, crap. And even when it wasn't crap, it was stuff revolving around the same people for decades at a time, to the point you wonder how they ever had a free moment in their lives. And it was mostly those people (and then their kids), out of an entire galaxy, upon every important event ever revolved. The room for new storytelling, especially if you actually had a really good reason to use any of those characters, was virtually none.
A purge of that glutton of material was needed, and it's what we got. I honestly cringe when folks still rage that the new films won't follow the EU. Have you seen how much material has been pumped out since 91 and the first of the Thrawn books came out a quarter-century ago? The creative freedom would be zero for the next dozen films. There's a few things I'd love to see get canonized, but the vast majority of the post-ROTJ stuff I'm happy to see mercifully rot.
Hey guess what guys, did you know that they are releasing a new Star Wars trilogy?! Episode VII-IX! Also, 3 anthology movies! Six new MovieS!
Shadows of the Empire was fun.
The video game was fun. The novel, if someone went back through it with a lot of cuts and rewriting, might rise to the level of merely awful.

Everyone is entitled to their own headcanon, I think. What confuses me is when people get upset that Disney is doing basically the same thing everybody does: keeping the stuff that's sensible and that works with where they'd like to see the franchise go, and getting rid of that time Lando almost singlehandedly saved the peaceful, superintelligent space whales from genocide.
I enjoyed the Thrawn stuff. I never played the video games as I didn't care for first person campaigns. I tried to listen to audio of the Rogue Squadron stuff, but it fell flat. I just couldn't pay attention. I bet it would be a good comic, but I'm not going to shell out the money it takes to acquire it. I tried reading the series that comes after Thrawn, but just never finished it. It never really grabbed me. I listened to the Xizor novels as I love the Starviper and ready to find out who this guy is. It was....OK. Not great or even good. It was pulp fiction that was tolerable as I like Star Wars, but then only just so.
I've been so turned off by most of that being just so blasé that I just don't want to try anything else.
Maybe it's because I'm used to reading a higher quality of books? I dunno...that just sounds snobbish.
What always kills me is that Disney is probably going to pick through the EU and make a bunch of movies or tv shows about them, but possibly make it better by weaving it all into a better narrative. Yet, we have all these people screaming that the EU is flushed down the tubes. Either that or they will change one thing and there is always that one guy who goes on about how that was his favorite bit character he's ever written and the whole series is ruined because of what they did for him. I've got a friend who goes on about Tom freakin' Bombadill in the Lord of the Rings movies all the time.
Aside from names I doubt Disney will really use much original EU.
Why? I see them pillaging something they can make a profit on, especially if they pick the most beloved aspects of the EU. I just shook my head when people lamented when Disney bought Star Wars. Why would they kill the sacred cow? They want to milk it for all she's worth.
Disney's track record of taking someone else's franchise and making awesome movies is good. They seem keen on making a whole slew of books for Star Wars. Why not pillage the best bits of the EU for some further profit?
To me, I'd be excited if they did a better job with the material.

And was pretty much exactly the same policy that George had himself. If it was George making the new movies the end result would of been the same, he would of thrown out the majority of the EU stuff in favor of what ever story he wanted to tell.
It's not like the EU was ever truly canon when it came to the movies.
I just want both universes to exist with both getting new material. Is that so hard?

The ships are not canon, but the pilots certainly are. Will need to see who the rest of the Jumpmaster pilots are, but Zuckuss, 4-LOM and Dengar all appeared in Empire.
I'd love to be wrong, just because I really, really want Grand Admiral Thrawn in this game.

Yes kinda.
The Disney policy regarding canon IMO vastly superior, instead of this nonsense with 3-5 different levels of canon we have only one. Everything is now canon, and that is much better.
So to start to produce both stuff that is and isn't canon quite simply doesn't work with that policy. Trying to do otherwise would be confusing and counter productive.
He was working on Episode VII actually, wrote a script and everything. They're not using it, though.
He said that story had already been told through the many books and comics of the EU.
I'd have to see a link to that statement before I buy that. He was quite clear on his opinion of the EU after all.
I'll never understand the hate the eu gets. I would say 90% of those novels were very good or great.
Lol, no.
The vast majority of the Bantam era is lucky to be mediocre. And the output before the buyout was... not good. Even Zahn has degraded into fanfiction for his pet characters. There is still the occaisional gem, sure. But good riddance to the most of it.

He was working on a treatment. David Arndt was actually doing the first script.

Face it. Some people love the EU. Let us have it. I'm fine with the reboot that is Disney is doing. But more "Legends" material would be awesome and would shut a ton of people up.
