Report the Disney wiped clean the Expanded Universe!!!
Dumping this is as bad as cancelling a show after only airing 11 out of 14 episodes.I wonder if we will get a Expanded Universe movie to finish off with?
You're a cruel person, how dare you mention THAT tragedy, bringing back all the pain to us true fans :-)
<<comment about how lame you are for not already knowing what I have known for {{amount of time}} about a fantasy universe that has never been particularly cohesive in its mythology>>
Edited by FuturistiKenMaybe, but the thing with the EU is it's had time to weed out or reconcile the crappy stuff and has actually by and large done that. Disney seems too focused on the idea of everything they put out being 100% Grade A canon to actually fix anything.
Umm, what? Last I checked, the abominations that were Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi were still intact when the purged happened. How do you make a new film trilogy with those novels just creating a terrible place for them to continue the main cast's story.
Even the good stuff wasn't worth having to allow the absolute terrible stuff in. Star Wars needed a clean slate. You still have your old stories. And if being canon was THAT important to those stories, that they are worthless without it, then maybe they weren't very good stories.
Note that those are some of the very last EU things, they simply never had time to clear them. Even then, they mostly swept the Vong under the rug.
See, I wouldn't mind if Disney had put a little bit of effort into going through the EU and cutting the crap, but cutting EVERYTHING was just lazy and disrespectful.

And in the meantime they're bringing in lots of awful contradictory canon, YAY!
It's not that I don't want it to be good, it's just that they haven't done anything to make me trust they can do that.

Is it contradictory? I've kept up with all released canon and haven't noticed any contradictions. I loved the old EU (now legends), but I can't see how Disney could have gone forward if they had of made all 'legends' canon. It had been a free for all for too many years. They would have to make films based on what every Tom **** and Harry had written. Let's face it, did everyone want to eventually see Han and chewie land on earth?
Contradictory to better material from the EU is what I meant, not itself.
(the whole "Ahsoka recruited Wedge" thing is owl stool of the highest order, particularly)
Edited by TipperaryBring in the TIE Fighter game and al the imperial ships that came with it, Disney! Or at least the Tie Defender and Avenger.
Not the assault gunboat though. I mean, Who wants that?

If you want to hate on the new Books go for it, but many of the old books were pure trash too.
So far I have read Tarkin and A New Dawn and have liked them both. They followed the current canon tightly and brought in several new characters that are going to be excellent for future books or characters for the new movies. (Thinking Rogue One here.)
Edited by Beattycomics, imo, was 90%+ dross anyway, so the MCU stuff is mostly an improvement.
EU dross percentage was nowhere near that high
you're assuming I hate, or even want to

If they ditch the EU then there's gonna be two years in between each wave so no it'll still be used .

Funny, I had always heard that owls preferred chairs.
This is crazy old news. Two years or so old news. And FFG is still releasing EU ships. There's not been a Wave since Wave 3 without them, including the Rebels wae.
But will it be good Star Wars? This is the important thought, because there are definite quality issues with more than half the new books.
The concept of if it'll be "good" or not is entirely subjective, as can be seen from the discussions on here. Some love what others hate.
It's been well over a year and people are still learning this?
EU ships will still come out, wave 8 has 2 of them for the scum.
Its been over a year and I'm still reeling over the fact that a number of interesting story lines are just getting cut off and dumped. Not all EU was great but there were a few stories I was hoping to follow for a bit longer yet.

I agree. The EU was just blown away like a leaf on the wind.
Umm.....what they really said was that the EU is "Legends" and still there.....until they re-write that part with something else. So, they didn't just blow away the EU.
Also, besides the Thrawn Trilogy, I couldn't really stomach much of the EU stuff. I didn't like it.
I have read Tarkin and A New Dawn and really like those. They were good. I did start the other one with Luke and just couldn't finish it. Bleh. #noodlescooter.
All I really know is that the Story Group allowed Kieron Gillen to bring back the Grand General rank. There is really one reason to allow that, imo...
Besides. the Darth Vader comic is all sorts of awesome, that I don't even really miss Dark Horse anymore.

Hopefully Disney will consider my petition to declare the prequels part of the EU.
I'm hopeful, but I probably shouldn't have written it on a cocktail napkin.

I think the real question though, beyond the FFG releases between the death of EU and now, is if wave 9+ will be strictly canon material. That, I would say, depends on how quickly Disney pushes new content out for other companies to use.... or if FFG starts slowing new releases. If one thing can be said about Disney though, they are THE masters of merchandise.
Honestly, I think FFG is releasing expansions too quickly. I worry about the rising barrier to entry for new players.
Havoc for Wave 9 is semi-likely.
Wave 9 would roughly be slated for summer/fall 2016 if past schedules are anything to go by, which is too early to have anything from a new movie. The missing SKUs likely account for all the immediate TFA content.
That means at least one new EU wave, maybe 2 depending on Rogue One having anything of note.

Fixed that for you.
