I could be wrong, but I don't think we'll see any more ships from the expanded universe. The Mickey Mouse Empire has set!

This had already been mentioned when JJ was talking about Episode 7's relationship with the books.
So the Yuzzahan Vong may never exists. ![]()
Oh, well it was the first time I heard. Do you think that FFG will still release EU ships?
It's been well over a year and people are still learning this?
EU ships will still come out, wave 8 has 2 of them for the scum.
This was announced a long time ago and they haven't stopped yet. Maybe eventually the Legends stuff will go away.

The only way I see FFG stopping future releases of EU ships is if new canon ship designs come out as fast as FFG wants to release new ships. I don't think that is likely even if the novel continue canonizing EU craft.
More interesting part of the article is that they're releasing a trilogy of books to tell you what happened between Ep 6 and 7.
Fingers crossed for Thrawn!

We know this for a while too. First novel on Friday. You can read the first chapter as of a couple months ago now online. http://www.starwars.com/news/chaos-throttles-the-capital-in-star-wars-aftermath-special-excerpt

Its been over a year and I'm still reeling over the fact that a number of interesting story lines are just getting cut off and dumped. Not all EU was great but there were a few stories I was hoping to follow for a bit longer yet.
Dumping this is as bad as cancelling a show after only airing 11 out of 14 episodes.
I wonder if we will get a Expanded Universe movie to finish off with?

If you can stomach the writing style.
The only parts of the EU that are any good are the ones we don't consider part of the EU: TIE Fighter, for example.

It's not very engaging is it :\
I understand the need to wipe away the mess EU became, but to replace with worse is hard to comprehend.
A good few of the EU ships are well designed and fit into Star Wars, it would be a shame to lose the designs entirely.
Not trolling here. The EU was amazing even with its occasional flaws. I've been bummed since the day Disney bought Star Wars. The EU isn't dead so to say. It's just not going to get new novels and comics. Which sucks imho. I have no interest in the Disney canon so I can't judge the quality of the books. But I've heard more bad than good. They're also not selling as good as the original EU. Rant over.

I agree. The EU was just blown away like a leaf on the wind.
I can't believe Yahoo just stole content from Polygon like that.
Also: we've been into the post-Legends material for a while- New Dawn came out a year or so ago. We've also got an entire season of Rebels.
^So pulling a Polygon on Polygon? Deserved IMO

The key thing to remember is that the EU is still canon, just a separate timeline, an AU for all intents and purposes. Someone posted this in another thread but I think it's still a good view: FFG is carving out their own universe, trying to integrate the better elements of the EU instead of kowtowing to Disney's every piddling whim.
(I still think the 4th's stuff feels, dare I say, forced)
Exactly. Disney's canon is like the 616 universe, and the EU is like the Ultimate universe.
Good.
The real stories that last, and I'm talking centuries here, change.. adapt.. evolve. The tales of King Arthur and of Robin Hood that you know now would be fairly unrecognizable to folks from 500 years ago. It's fine. Honest. The world isn't going to end. The sun will still come up tomorrow (or September 5th). Besides, if there's one thing that Disney is good at doing, it's keeping a story alive. They still find marketing meaning in their animated films from 50 years ago. I think we can all quietly rest assured that for the rest of our natural lives, there will be Star Wars. And that's a good thought.
But will it be good Star Wars? This is the important thought, because there are definite quality issues with more than half the new books.

So you're saying they're well ahead of the batting average for the old EU, then?
Maybe, but the thing with the EU is it's had time to weed out or reconcile the crappy stuff and has actually by and large done that. Disney seems too focused on the idea of everything they put out being 100% Grade A canon to actually fix anything.
As I am reading this thread it reminds me of how bad Disney screwed up the Marvel Universe. All the Marvel movies were great until Disney got their hands on them and even the Fantastic 4 blew the Second Avengers movie out of the water.
Star Wars is Sooo Doooomed! *Cough cough*
