Tie Advanced squad build.

By Beard, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I really like the new tie advanced systems upgrade. I have made two possible squad builds, both similar but I'm not sure which one I like more. I want to know how you fly your advances (other then Vader being an arc dodger) and what yall think of these builds :)

Squad based on synergy

9 Darth Vader

Title

Squad leader

ATC

4 Storm squadron pilot

Title

ATC

3 Lieutenant Collett

Title

ATC

8 Howlrunner

Swarm tactics

The goal is to fly in formation head on into the enemy ships. At range 1 I almost always got 2 hits 2 crits average from the advances. Darth Vader uses squad leader to allow Howlrunner to "turtle up" during the first pass. After this the squad splits up, my opponent usually goes for howlrunner (because it's howlrunner...) and the advances come in from behind. Darth vader ensures the advances continue to get target locks. Maybe Colzet spent his for his pilot skill and then bumps a ship or rock. Darth vader fixes this. Maybe darth wants to barrel role but his friendlys are in the way. He makes them roll out of the way lol. Or sometimes he just gets to keep that second action for himself.

This build is pretty much the same. The difference being stronger crits, but no synergy

9 Darth Vader

Title

ATC

7 Maarek Stele

Title

ATC

3 Lieutenant Colzet

Title

ATC

8 Howlrunner

This squad allows me to use Maarek to cripple a ship as I see fit, helpful against larger ships such as the falcon or decimator. But Darth loses his squad leader, and that has so much potential! Which squad do you like more and why? What would you do different? (Other then an arc dodging Darth lol. I'll be making a different squad for that purpose.)

Hmmm. Not something I would ever run, but the biggest problem I see immediately is the lack of action economy. Your ships are vulnerable because they need Target Lock to deal good damage. If Vader uses one of his two actions for Squad Leader, he's vulnerable too. I guess the assumption is that the opponent will go after Howlrunner first, and Vader's bonus action will help her stick around longer, but I dunno. I feel this list is going to go down fast against HLC's and twin laser turrets. Perhaps ditch one of the advanced to add in a pair of TIE fighters? At least as blockers they can mess with opponent action economy too...

Give Vader and Stele Predator and ATC. Now it's like they always have Howlrunner with them but you don't have to worry about keeping her alive and in range. That puts you at 64 points.

Then either add in a Tempest with Accuracy Corrector and Night Beast or Colzet and an Obsidian (Accuracy Corrector or FCS to taste). If you want a little bit of an initiative bid skimp on the TIE Fighter a bit.

That'll give you a very similar list to what you posted without the Howlrunner weak link.

If you go with the Tempest with AC, dropping down to an Academy Pilot will allow you to put the Mk. II upgrade on three Advanceds.

a potential weakness that i see is that you will be flying formation if you want Howl to proc with everyone. This leaves you being predictable in your moves as the opponent will see your low PS ship's movement and know how to outmanuver you for a shot..

as a personal note: i firmly believe vader should ALWAYS have EU

Im not sold on the Tie fighter as a fourth pilot...

Made this

leaves room for init, and causes a real problem for those that are two ships on who to focus.

Thanks for your input guys, making me think of things I havnt thought of before lol! No one around here plays so I don't have a meta to practice against. The original idea was to have a critting advance swarm instead of a standard tie swarm. But now I'm thinking of just running darth vader. My problem is that I'm terrible at playing arc dodgers

Accuracy corrector is cheaper than ATC (as in free) and is a guaranteed two hits per shot, sure you lose the option of criticals but unless you're up close its pretty useful.

I played a game this evening where vader had it and chipped away at my K wing which with one agility took a hit or two each round....
