Does anyone actually LIKE the Punisher?

By Darth Ruin, in X-Wing

I've played X-Wing since the Core Set and have adored every single release...

Except for this one.

It's horrendous.

I'm not a huge stickler for exact scale but it makes every other Imperial ship look small and toylike. The shade of the Navy grey is all wrong; It's too dark compared to the rest of the TIE models. It doesn't look good flying with a squadron of bombers because of scale issues. It's thicker than the Decimator. It's thicker than the Raider, for Hutt's sake.

Aesthetically, it's a utter wreck. I'd have preferred a sleek Scimitar or boxy Assault Gunboat, which both would have suited functionally, if not aesthetically.

I'm ordering a proxy from Mel's for my games.

Conversely, the K-Wing looks right at home with the other Rebel ships, oddly enough. It's big, yes, but doesn't hugely look out of place and is the correct shade of bone.

The Punisher would be better used as a paperweight; the size of the thing throws the rest of the Imperial fleet off.

I hate the Punisher.

I don't particularly care for the Punisher.

On the other hand, I LOVE Deathrain and Redline.

I'm not a fan of the "add moar bitz!" approach to Imperial starfighter design, of which the Punisher (and the TIE Oppressor, I guess) are the acme.

But I think FFG's modelers did a really good job. I think the mini looks good on the table, and I'm happy to run it next to my other ships.

I really dislike asymmetry, so I actually prefer the Punisher to the Bomber.

It does annoy the **** out of me that every other TIE is a different ****ing color than the rest though.

How hard is it to just have one standard Imperial grey for the expansion releases, and save the weird colors for aces and huge ship pack-ins.

I don't see the hate personally. It looks great. Sure, it's a bit chunky, but it has to be with the load it's carrying. Plus I think there'd be a higher risk of breakage if it was any smaller. And Deathrain will rain death on any one who says otherwise.

A great opportunity to get yourself one of the XG-1 and show the rebel scum what a real bomber can do

This is the wave I have been least excited for, especially since there are VERY few EU ships I actually like. I'm hoping Rogue Shadow eventually makes the grade given that we're now seeing The Ghost and others. I might just proxy in a regular ole TIE Bomber for Redline and Deathrain. We'll see...

I like the Punisher.

It is actually my favorite sculpt of wave VII.

The K-Wing is just too wide...
The YV-666 is a sandcrawler in space... whoopty.
The Kihraxz is kinda boring and the colors are awful.

And while the Punisher is big, it's not offensive. It's just domineering.

The model has grown on me quite a bit, it isn't my favorite model but it does look intimidating. Personally, I think the Scimitar bomber would look 10x better with slight modification, here is my quick mock-up.

I don't have a problem with any of the ships, although I like the Punisher and the Kihraxz more than the other two.

It grew on me once I unpacked it and yeah I do like it.

Will actually get to fly it tomorrow for the first time.

I really like it. The weird massive boxiness of it is a feature, not a bug.

Deathrain alone is reason enough to really like the Punisher. He is unique and resourceful... And has the most terror inspiring nickname so far.

Marvel fans ;)

Yeap that about right

From the moment I saw the (as it was then called) "TIE Interdictor" on Wookieepedia, I wanted to chop up multiple TIE Bombers to make one. I thank FFG for saving me from mutilating many of their magnificent models.

Sadly, the Heavy TIE Bomber is likely to never appear in this game, now.

Please do not proxy with a Gunboat.

Please use a Missile Boat.

I adore the punisher.

It proves that Seinar Fleet Systems was staffed by nothing but blind yes men.

I think its freeking cool

I really like it. It is big and bulky just what I would expect a bomber to look like. It looks to be the largest of the "small base" type ships.

Also the details of the more finer points of the double undercarriage bomb drops and the 4 tubes of ordinance make it as a model exactly what I expect a bomber to be: Big and clunky.

In real life they are like B-52s, they are clunky , easy targets, but are nothing but a tube of ordinance to drop on things. Except the punisher has 4 tubes.

I used to not like the punisher, but over time it has grown on me. At the very least it makes sense as a logical evolution from the TIE bomber

Pretty much exactly what I was gonna say. (I am curious as to whether the OP likes the looks of the Defender, which for my money is THE stupidest looking ship in X-Wing, for similar reasons. MOAR WINGZ! MOAR!)

What's funny, is it's apparent lack of hyperdrive... If it's in scale - what drops those things off? Are they star destroyer only? Can they dock to the Gozanti?

I think it's cool. It's more niche than other ships and more of the sleeper of the wave.

Both the Punisher and K-wing should not look nearly as good as they do.

FFG's miniature wizardry strikes again.
