Wave 1 Meta is very, very dead.
Hail change!
Incidentally, where did the painting and conversions subforum go?

Edited by Darth Ruin. . . Nooooooo. . . I was hoping for at least an hour more before the doom and gloom. . .
We only know 1 of the 5 expansions. Trust me the Meta may just live. I doubt it, but it may

Why would you want wave one meta to stick around?
Edited by CeryliaeI don't hear doom and gloom, I hear rejoicing.

In mine neither. The only recurring ships I see are Gladiator with Demolisher and Rhymball VSD I.
But people keep bringing new lists and trying stuff out.

I don't mean people will never use W1 ships again, I mean that all your theories and strategies and lists and the last year or so of theorycrafting has been completely invalidated.
I believe the trifecta still will exist, however, of Full Squadron / Mix / No Squadron.
Edited by Darth RuinNone of it is invalidated, there are just more pieces to consider on the table now. Victories I really doubt will go anywhere, the cost differential between a VSD and an ISD will ensure that. Gladiators, Demolisher in particular, are in no danger of being invalidated, and for the Rebel fleet, the ISD presents no new threat, just an evolved form of an existing one (a stolid battering ram with most its punch forward). The old meta isn't dead, it's just going to evolve, and I seriously doubt anything we've seen here will render old tactics hopeless, just requiring more careful thought and consideration.
Because in my area the "meta" does not exist. We have had everything from no squadron to max squadron win tournaments. . . Nooooooo. . . I was hoping for at least an hour more before the doom and gloom. . .

That doesn't mean that we don't have a meta. What you're saying is that just because you see no rain that there's no moisture in the air.
I built my Many Squadrons list because I knew there were mostly No Squadron lists being played. Our meta is very squadrons light, and I strategically responded to that state of our meta.
Edited by Mikael HasselsteinSince when did expansion equal extinction?
The new cards have done nothing but expand the possibilities available to us. Old strategies are not dead, they just need to adapt.

Think about it. A Nebulon-B Salvation with Heavy Turbo Lasers shooting at a ISD or VSD. You are either forcing them to redirect more damage then normal or to not redirect but only brace. That is strong!
Nope. Nothing is invalidated. That's why I love this game. Even older ships like the VSD and Nebulon-B are still useful and get better and better as time goes on.I don't mean people will never use W1 ships again, I mean that all your theories and strategies and lists and the last year or so of theorycrafting has been completely invalidated.

Personally I believe no squadron builds or builds with one or two squadrons just to tie up the enemy squadrons won't be viable anymore, with the new squadrons. Like the intel keyword, being able to free the squadrons from an engagement and then have them continue to go after the ships.

I'm not sure that any shift in the meta from no squadrons to more squadrons is necessarily going to be the result of the components made available by Wave 2.
I think that if we do see a shift in the amount of squadrons being taken (proportional to the total amount of points), it will be the result of no squadrons lists being beaten by more squadrons lists.
on another note: Being able to move and fire for one side really ruled the battles its like a super power that every Empire player seemed to use in every game. I would like to see it ether go away or became available for all ships at a much higher points cost. (Like 50% ships base cost)
also I don't understand the 1/3 of force limit on the use of fighters in the game. It just does not fit the story lines of star wars.
Fluff does not equal game play. This is a game that is about the capital ships primarily and the squadrons secondary.
Even then... A lot of it has some skewed perspectives as well.
According to Canon at the Battle of Endor, there was -4- Squadrons of Rebel Starfighters...
... Red (X-Wing), Grey (Y-Wing), Blade (B-Wing), Green (A-Wing)...
4 Squadrons... So for us, that's a mere 4 little bases worth...
Battle of Yavin's even worse...
Red Squadron, and Gold Squadron...
A mere two. Nice and easy for a single ship to activate with Squadron Commands...
33% of a force being composed of Starfighters would be outside of the "Canon" norm...
Correct.
Yeah, Squadrons aren't 3 ships. But they are of 12 ships usually in the Star Wars Canon. But Canon appearances are usually anything between 9 (Black Squadron, the Imperial squadron at the Death Star) to a ta dmore than 12.
Good point at the battle of Endor saying that there was only 4 squadrons. At Yavin we can infer that there were more than 12 inside a squadron (Wookieepedia lists Red Squadron at 22 X-Wings, and 8 Y-Wings for Gold Squadron). Versus a single 9 men squadron led by Vader.
In terms of Gameplay perspective, we could say that it was Luke, Wedge and Dutch versus Vader ![]()
Remember at Yavin that they split their forces initially which was to distract the TIEs
I want an ISD II flanked by two VSD I, with a Gladiator lingering in the rear reach out stock someone. If your did 3 ISD, you wouldn't get that 4th activation, so the victory can just be there at the back of the wedge kind of blooming out from behind the ISD, to cover it's sides
Or, navigate your ISD up the board side, then angle your two victorys; and be ready to maximise your forward fire power ![]()
So do you think 3 ISDs will replace the 4 GSDs meta?
Actually no. But I do see 2 ISD and 2 GSD lists being a thing.
Well, for me, its all about the money...
Triple ISD sets you back ~$150 US Retail
Quad Glads is only ~$120 US Retail

Actually now it would be 6 Glads me thinks
