Imperial Star Destroyer Preview

By Toqtamish, in Star Wars: Armada

I thin Avenger is going to be a widely used title. . . Captain Needa might find himself on VSD's, the Impstar 1 is going to be amazing with Expanded Hanger Bay and Boosted Coms.

Ohhh the Tractor Beams allow for some great defensive play. Gladiator charging in? Nope, now it's slower. VSD or Raider too close for comfort, nope now they are slower. . . I like it.

Well unless they have a token.

I feel pretty happy. I called the double Offensive Retrofit slot. Was a pure guess but was right. Points were just about right. 110 for the Impstar 1 was at my max range.

I'm very happy that the Imp 1 has the double offensive, whereas Imp 2 has a Defensive... Set them RIGHT apart other than just the Guns they have... And its a reason to run Both...

Nah just 1 tractor beam since it's a modification.

Still takes the Token off them, so they can only speed up to 2, unless they have other card shenanigans - which oftentimes, will NOT get you out of the line of fire, for example :)

Impstar dunce only has 1 defensive and 1 offensive Retrofit

That is what I was saying...

Offense + Offense (Imp 1)

vs

Offense + Defense (Imp 2)

Which further differentiates them, beyond just the dice they use...

Nah just 1 tractor beam since it's a modification.

2 ISD's with Tractor Beams can focus bean a Corvette or Assault Frigate from speed 3 to speed 1.

I mean multiple ships.

Smack them while they're still moving slow with a banked Token! That's my Chase scene right there! :D

Oh, Neb-Bs, Vette's and AF-IIs moving at Speed 1 with a Token, expecting to unload, speed up, and take off....

Nope, you've been Tatooined! Time to shoot some Droids out the Airlock!

Wait wait wait a minute....ships going speed 1 should be safe from this effect, no? It doesn't force you to discard the token if you're already crawling...

Curses! My Ill-Conceived Plan has been Rendered Ill-Conceived!

Yes indeed...

But regardless, being able to slow them down will always be on the Imperial Want-List.

Now I think this card is a great counter to Tarkin. At that point I don't care what speed you are going but if you have to Tarkin bucks up a Nav token every turn to prevent me from messing with you. Well I am all for that

The tractor beam looks awesome!! Vader too :)

Just noticed something regarding tractor beams...

Tractor beams state that the ship must spend a nav token or be reduced in speed.

If a ship has Wulff Yularen though, they can spend their nav token and then get it right back by exhausting Wulff. So not only would tractor beams do nothing, but the ship will still have the nav token.

Is the timing on Avenger + Overload Pulse in the article incorrect?

Is the timing on Avenger + Overload Pulse in the article incorrect?

That's exactly what I wondered. Unless they meant lining up 2 attacks (one with the side arc to hope for the blue crit, then finish up with the front). So, it's probably going to be very good versus large/medium ships that will have higher trouble dodging arcs all together especially if it is moving at speed 3.

Yes, the article is certainly incorrect on that point.

That's how I read it... Double-Arcing...

Imp 2, Side Shot, Overload Pulse, Screed up the Crit... Finish off with the Devestating Front Barrage...

Or even the reverse if its a Imp-1... Just use them Blue die first!

Buy 7 and crush the Rebel scum.

Also, what I like is that it prevents from completely whiffing.

In my groups games, we've renamed Luke to Whiff Skywalker. Too bad his dad get's the ability and not him ;)

The tractor beam card was shown in the MC80 kit so for those of you getting the entire expansion or at least the large ships you will have 2 tractor beams

Groovy, didn't even think of double arcing. It sounded like it was all 1 attack.

The Force is strong with young Whiff Skywalker. But he is not a Jedi yet.

Tractor beam is going to be game changing

Not sure about Vader though. Shoot me for treason, but he'd be downright broken as the commander of a rebel fleet :P

Imps though don't have that much red dice (sad) and their blackdice buddies already have ACM skreed

On the other hand, the isd 2 farts out asany reds as a EA fattie from the front, so Vader could find purchase there

The 10 point +dice for missing tokens title seems horribly situational

Can't spend exhausted tokens seems pretty sweet and the price is right

Command flexibility for 3 points still strikes me as solid

Ruthless Tact's seems bleh. Highly situational and conditional I think it could've gotten away at 2 points for the slot it takes.

Also HTLB w.e strike me as very situational. Maybe I'm just not getting it.

Also, apologies accepted needa. You're not much but you're not asking for much either you get to live :) Seems right at home on an isd with projectors. Manage that fat ass and you got yourself a giant, long range railgun

I think they mean lining up two arch shot.

From the opening they talked about getting two shots off:

Its pre-painted Imperial-class Star Destroyer enters the game as the largest, most resilient, hardest hitting ship to-date. Whether you field it in battle as an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer or an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer , yourImperial-class Star Destroyer features no fewer than eight attack dice from its forward arc, and four dice from both its left and right arcs. Line up the right shot, and that's twelve dice that you can blast into a single ship in just one round – before you even look into adding upgrades.

Soooo....

3 ISD 1's plus screed and upgrades....

All speed 3 and Relentless to have one on just a pair of command dials.

I'm so excited for wave 2!

I hope the mc80 is very close in power and capability as this. Right now am loving what we will be able to build and the range of options with wave 2 ships, upgrades, squadrons and 400 points!

I'm really looking forward to throwing Heavy Turbolaser Batteries on my Vic-1s... I'm already closing and punching HARD... Now either Just Brace (and no redirect! Or even if I'm potshotting, Evade!)... or take 9 of that 10 damage I just smacked you with...

As for the tactor beam... I don't think it's going to be that useful that often.

I don't know about most of what your guys' experience has been, but around where I am at, taking the nav command first round and thus cashing in for the token is pretty much an auto move for every ship.

What the tractor beam says to me is: make your opponent waste a command by requiring an unspent nav command to get a token to defend against tractor beam or risk being slowed down.
