Talon roll and the Tie Defender

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

We all know that which we should not be speaking of yet has a Talon roll. How nice would that look as an upgrade on the Defender?

Title:

Best Pilots in the Galaxy

1 Pt

Tie Defender Only

You may complete a red Talon roll when move 3 hard left or right, instead of the the actual move. Make the decision after moving.

Yes it's one point, but what a great maneuver, and for 1 point, plus the Tie Mark II Engines, sure that makes the base defender 32 points, but a talon roll and lots of greens to clear it.

Not bad. What does everyone else think?

I like it. I'd actually open it up to all turns. Make the Defender crazy maneuverable like it should have been in the first place.

Thought about doing that, but that which we cannot speak of has the Talon Roll only on the 3 maneuver Template, not the 2 or 1. So I kept it at 3 only. However, they do the Sloop at 2, hmm

Would be interesting, 4 white K-turn, 3 red Talon roll, 2 red s-loop. That would be sweet!

True, but not all defenders can take it. I'm talking an overall boost to all defender pilots, that's why I gave it the title.

The defender needs a new dial with a pair of white S-loops and a pair of T-rolls, and two more greens.

Unless you change the title to be:

Title:

Best Pilots in the galaxy

Tie Defender

0 pts

Add 1 Elite Pilot skill to your upgrade bar. (Maximum of 2)

That works for me.

Then your card is a great fix.

But also you want to make each ship different and unique, even for rookie pilots of the ship, hence my original suggestion.

Is the defender actually crazy maneuverable? or was it more just crazy fast?

I assume they'd wait to see how Twin Ion, the new Advanced, the New Order support squadmates, and everything else set to shake up the Imperial meta improves the Defender first. People are already having great luck with the Defender alongside X/1s, and there's plenty of other new upgrades that could make them a good deal more useful.

Not to say it couldn't be done, but if they don't want to limit the Tallon to only new stuff a crazy expensive EPT or disposable Illicit/Modification seems more likely.

In casual I'd want to see just how savage TRolls are before letting someone slap 'em on another ship for one point, but could be fun.

Only if, like it's K-Turn, it's white.

Tokyo driftin' for daaaaaaaays son!

Besides, lets be real here, the Defender's dial should REALLY look like this:

True! So true!, but it should also cost like 60 points

It already does.

You forgot the 4 and 5 banks and turns, all green of course. I'm also assuming free BR and boost after a green maneuver as standard on all Defenders.

It was both. But speed in this game isn't really represented all that well. A shuttle with an Engine Upgrade can easily keep up with an A-wing. The only ships that truly "feel" slow are the B-wing and the HWK, (the Y-wing to some extent). Really they should of had two sets of maneuver templates. One's for large base ships and the standard for small base ships, but that's another matter and the ship has sailed on that.

Play the game using the epic rules but apply them to large ships.

You forgot the 4 and 5 banks and turns, all green of course.

Well that's just silly. Where would you get the templates?

I'm also assuming free BR and boost after a green maneuver as standard on all Defenders.

Nah, that's just Maarek's pilot ability.

Are you going to run this joke into the ground too?

What joke?

All the defender needs is a Guri-like free focus token every turn, even when stressed, in addition to it's normal action.

This game really should have utilized the Star Trek templates, being able to do a 4 bank would make all fast ships actually stand out. That and k-turns in this game are not very well done.

Or a free boost after completing any maneuver.

Well I like the fact that it gets more maneuverable with a Talon Roll, since during the game you could always fly past and out turn anyone(not a K-turn). It makes perfect sense for the ship.

The defender needs a new dial with a pair of white S-loops and a pair of T-rolls, and two more greens.

Well the white K-turn + Barrel roll places it in the same place as a S-loop and it won't be stressed for the next turn. as for greens just some that are not straight will help it out. The dial isn't really that bad, the 30 point cost however is.

As for the T-roll it is harder to block much like the S-loop. At least the Defender can make another K-turn attempt if it does get blocked on the next turn.

All valid points, but how great would it look to be able to T-roll on a defender for 0 points.

Reason for a fix: I think FFG just overestimated the white koiogran

Yeah it's really nice but not worth the tax they added.

The t-70 shows very clearly how badly it's priced now.
