I've recently returned to X-Wing after a year-long break and I've completely forgotten the specifics of die modification. My question is can I use Bossk the pilot's ability to cancel a crit result & convert it into 2 damage after using Calculation to change a focus to a crit OR use Mangler Cannon to change a hit to a crit then cancel it for 2 damage?
Bossk (pilot) & Mangler Cannon, Calculation
Yes.
Unless stated otherwise, modifications of attack dice happens in step 3 of the attack sequence.
Bossk states otherwise, "before dealing damage", so that would be either at the end of step 6 or the start of step 7 or some where in between. In any case it is after step 3 ![]()
Attack sequence (p10 in the core rule book):
1. Declare target
2. Roll attack dice
3. Modify attack dice
4. Roll defence dice
5. Modify defence dice
6. Compare results
7. Deal damage
Edited by SmugglerBossk's ability happens after comparing results, but before dealing damage. The others happen in the attacker's die modification step. You've just got to hope there's still a {crit} result when Bossk needs to do his thing.
Great. Thanks guys.
Ok, I have a follow up question to this. Is there an order of operations in the modify dice step? For example: bossk has calculation and a mangler cannon. He rolls crit, focus, focus and has a focus token to spend. Can that focus make it crit, crit, hit?

If you have multiple effects with the same timing you may choose the order to apply them.
I like the answer, but is there something I can quote to avoid any nasty rules conflicts?
