I'm looking over the epic tournament rules and it only mentions asteroids, is thins an oversight or is debris not legal in tournament epic? Seems wrong.
No debris in epic?
Imagine a huge ship rolling thru debris, would it really cause a critical hull damage? I don't think so. An asteroid the size of a small ship? I think it would. As the rules for running over a small or large ship with huge ship is just roll a dice or two, it doesn't seem like smashing an xwing to nothing is that big of a deal. A half destroyed debris of would be less of a damaging threat. All in all, just make house rules and use debris as normal.
By the strictest interpretation of rules, epic is asteroids only. I imagine that this will eventually be changed.

Strictest interpretation? What other way could you possibly interpret this:
"Both players place the six unique asteroid tokens from their core sets next to the play area, for a total of 12 asteroids (two copies of each unique asteroid)."
I only say that because it's not like using debris would suddenly make the format crash and burn, but you are entirely correct.
Interesting to note that Captain Needa's text applies to "obstacle tokens." Of course, this could be referring to the Cinematic missions where there is Rebel Transport debris. Still, it leaves open the possibility of debris fields becoming legal for tournaments.
But you know what? I don't even care about Epic Tournaments. Sure, I want to test my mettle, but sending an fleet of Imperials against a fleet of Imperials kind of ruins it for me. I put up with it for the 100 point format, but I'd hate to do that with so many ships and such long matches. Of course, I reserve the right to change my mind if Epic Tournament format catches on.
Parakitor...just look at it as a force on force training exercise, for your imperial fleets...that's how I get through mirror matchs...lol
I think its somewhere in the raider rules. they are and obstacles and can be used. The same rules apply for running over a debris cloud as is for an asteroid also. I think will have to find rules
form huge ship rules
Overlapping obstacles
When a huge ship executes a maneuver and the final position of one of its
sections overlaps one or more obstacle tokens, the huge ship is dealt one
faceup Damage card. Draw this Damage card from the Damage deck that
corresponds to the affected section. If both sections overlap, the opposing
player chooses which section suffers the damage.
Obstacles do not cause a huge ship to skip its “Perform Action” step. All
obstacle tokens that are overlapped by a huge ship are immediately removed
from the play area.
The huge ship suffers these effects when one of its sections overlaps an
obstacle, not when its maneuver template overlaps an obstacle.
tournament rules say asteroids but if its a casual game go nuts and use obstacle rules as above
