Stress Raider

By Tailsgod, in X-Wing

Raider-class Corvette (Aft)

Mara Jade 3

Rebel Captive 3

Ion Cannon Battery 6

Slicer Tools 7 Ship

Total: 69

Raider-class Corvette (Fore)

Ionization Reactor 4

Total: 54

Its a fairly cheap compared to most other Raider bills only 123 (Lol)
But i think it can be a fairly dangerous and stressful for the other side
Idk Does anyone have opinions on how to make this ship better?

Why not tactician instead of rebel captive, who can only trigger once?

hmmmmm that's possibly 2 stress per turn and forces them to be even more toward the outskirts as a necessity....
I like it

I call it

I'd change that Merc Copilot to an Ion Projector or APL...

Other than that, nasty!

Remember that Tactician only works on targets in your firing arc, and only then at range 2, which has made me wonder if it's just not a good choice for Epic because there's so much space to work with. And maybe Mara is better used on Oicunn as he wants to get close enough to ram people anyway?

Tactician only works in firing arcs, but huge ships tend to have several firing arcs so it actually is a really good fit.

I really like Tactician combined with Quad Laser Cannons on a huge ship. For the Raider, I'd go:

Imperial Raider (Fore) (50)

Quad Laser Cannon (6)

Ionization Reactor (4)

Imperial Raider (Aft) (50)

Quad Laser Cannon (6)

Ion Cannon Battery (8)

Tactician (2)

Mara Jade (3)

Engineering Team (4)

Tibanna Gas Supplies (4)

Assailer (2)

Total 137

Yikes! It's getting expensive, but the idea is that on the fore section you can load up a single ship with up to 4 stress tokens. Same from the side. Obviously, the bad guys want to close for the kill, getting to Range 1 where they are safe from Tactician. Unfortunately for them, Mara Jade + Ionization Reactor will give them a stress and an ion token anyway, making them pretty easy to run over. So that's fine, they want to stay at range to avoid my close-range wrath. This is where Assailer comes in. At range 3, the Raider gets a bonus die, and if it reinforces that section, it now has a 5/8 chance of rolling an evade, which is a total of two cancelled damage. It's kind of like 'kriffed if you do, kriffed if you don't.'

I suppose I could drop the Engineering Team and Tibanna Gas Supplies, but with so many guns to power up I'll need all the energy I can get.

Was actually referring to the Decimators, as far as the Tacticians go. Played and went undefeated in a team epic tournament this past weekend - I just don't think, from that experience, that stress would have been a significant factor for our fighters. In fact more than once our fighter squads K-turned and then did straight 4s and 3s to get close range without caring about clearing stress because we just wanted to bring those three red dice attacks to bear on the Raider. Same deal with Mara, as by the time we were in range 1 we were rolling 4 red dice with each fighter and, again, didn't care about stress. And that was all while our Tantive, with its pilot skill boosted by Roark, was raining fire from rang 5. As always, YMMV, but in the matches we had this weekend Mara and Tactician would have been wasted points on the Raiders, I think. Could be wrong, though, as it was clear that the optimal Raider build had not been discovered by any of our opponents and there was a lot of frustration with how the chosen loadouts performed. Heard an awful lot of comments disparaging the Raider as a whole, which I don't think is correct.

Dude! I didn't see Slicer Tools on there. That's a great call! I'm going to see if I can rearrange some things to make room for that in the squad I just posted. Sorry Tibanna Gas Supplies, you've got to go.

Not to derail the thread, but could you briefly outline the Tantive loadout? Knowing your enemy is as important as knowing yourself.

Ah. Well then, yeah, I agree with you.

Tried tactician on the Decimator right when it came out, did not like it. Far too restrictive on a turreted ship.

Since the huge ships move after all other ships trying to find a ship that still has a stress after range 1-3 is not going to be easy and especially since the raider doesn't have jam action. Mara Jade does not give a 2nd stress at the end of the turn.

It could be doable with other stress weapons like flechete torpedoes. Still I think Vader crushing ships range 1-5 is going to be providing enough stress for your opponent. ;)

I never say no to more vader...
