I've loved GW games and minis for the better part of two decades now.
They really just need to do one thing.
Adapt.

Of course what has helped me out is I follow this advice!

I live in Suffolk, England and it's seems to be a black hole for x-wing.
When you look on the UK facebook page there's a map of pins for the locations of all the members and Suffolk has one pin in it. Me.
Plenty of X-Wing going on nearby, head on over if you want some games...
My friends took up warhammer in high school. I couldn't afford it but when I looked at what they were spending I wouldn't have gone for it. In fact I avoided any collectible games from then until recently including Magic, Miniatures, etc. My friends had been playing this for some time when Most Wanted hit. Neither wanted to invest in a third faction so they had me check out a game. I watched them play, asked 3 questions and understood 90% of the rules just from that.
Since then I've been playing scum and villainy but am very tight about what I buy and get any of the larger stuff from my friends shop (neighbouring city) which matches online prices. Currently I have Most wanted, IG-2000, houndstooth, M-3A and Star Viper (bought the starter and sold the ships to my friends). If I ever want to try the firespray or hawk I can borrow them from friends. I will likely pick up a khirax and then that's probably it for the foreseeable future. Already it's more than I intended to buy but I've been having a great time with the game.
I would have just stuck with most wanted and ig but after seeing my friends constantly theory crafting and playing with builds I realized I wanted more options. As for how I rationalize it? I am highly aware of my financial situation at all times. I have no debt, a fair amount of savings and I don't spend money on much apart from comics. So I'm making enough money to save, pay bills and have stuff left over for fun. I'd rather buy something that I can enjoy than just sit on a pile of money doing nothing. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to hang out with two friends I otherwise wouldn't have many chances to hang out with. I think that makes it worth it.

Sounds like somebody has his ducks in a row and priorities straight! If only everybody could do this!
Good job, Bottleface! Btw, have you posted in the thread, "Whats your day job?"

Not yet. This is literally the only thread I've posted in. Joined the forums right before vacation so I figure I'll poke around some more when I get home.
My brother and I collect together, each of us only spends max £20 a month on the hobby and have amassed a nice sized collection so far. and tbh I used to easily spend £100-200 a month on warhammer, warmachine, and malafaux. So I don't really feel guilty about it, specielly since i only do x-wing now. selling off the last of my warhammer as I type this.
108 ships purchased in 10 months. A bit under 200 bucks a month, but I am over 40 so my job partners have toys like long ride motorcicles or scuba diving, so purchasing plastic models is not an expensive hobby. The toys for 40-50 years old kids are quite...expensive.
My LGS just had their 10% off Annual Sale... $160 just like that ![]()
