Probably about £500-600 all told.

Tldr: work hard, love hard, play with teeny tiny toys hard.
How much have you spent and how do you rationalize it?
TL;DR: Lots, and generally I don't.
***
Here's what I have from FFG (that is, not counting tokens or templates):
- 2 core sets
- 1 x-wing expansion
- 2 y-wing
- 1 tie fighter expansion
- 2 tie advanced
- 1 yt-1300
- 2 firesprays
- 4 a-wings
- 5 interceptors
- 2 hwks
- 4 b-wings
- 2 lambdas
- 4 tie bombers
- 3 z-95s
- 2 e-wings
- 2 defenders
- 2 phantoms
- 1 yt-2400
- 1 decimator
- 2 most wanted
- 3 scyks
- 2 starvipers
- 2 ig-2000
- 2 hound's tooth
- 2 k-wing
- 2 tie punisher
- 4 kihraxz
- 1 rebel aces
- 1 imperial aces
- 1 transport
- 1 corvette
- 1 raider
- 1 playmat
At MSRP, that's $1,565. But I didn't pay retail for all of it, or even much of it: it's accounted for by gifts, store credit at my local store, store credit at FFG's web store, and online purchases (including the usual 30% or so off, as well as deeper discounts--like B-wings #3 and #4, which I got for like $7 each at Miniature Market IIRC). I'm certain I've spent less than $1000 all told, and probably less than that.
As for justifying it--seriously, why bother? It's something I enjoy, and all of my needs and my family's needs are met. Just scratching the surface of other hobbies, I could buy a new video game every month, which would be more expensive (36 months x $60 = $2,160). I could go to the bookstore twice a month, rather than the library, and pick up a new hardback and a new paperback (36 months x 2 x $35 = $5,040). I could go scuba diving once or twice a month instead of once a year (36 x 1.5 x $lots = $
).
X-wing just isn't that expensive, relative to my interests and discretionary income.
Dat ain't enough stuff... yet!

"I can quit anytime."
This... is almost enough.

prolly spent near 2k canadian easy.
I don't really try to rationalize it, if i were forced to I'd probably point out that I don't smoke, and the same money will have gone to less 40k or PC upgrades. I'd also count the none too many days, years or months remaining when the kids will be old enough to play these with me.
I could point out the narrative campaigns i've made and played with my friends have made for good memories and good times.
I could even point out that X-wing actually revitalized my love of Star Wars, a love which was... wounded in the early 2000s.
I used to play Magic. X-wing is way more economical. So I don't even think about it.
Must be over $500. I rationalize it by saying "hey, at least it's not Sigmarines!".

I used to play 40K so... yeah same boat.
The only rationalizing I do is this:
I've been in the 40k fandom in one way or another for 10 years. I've been playing X-Wing for about 2 years.
I have already played WAY more games of X-Wing than 40k (even taking into account the time difference of the games) and I enjoy X-Wing WAY more than I ever enjoyed 40k.
And I've done it spending way less.
I dare not count it up... and I can't rationalize any of it... none of it, really. This is the most depressing thread that's ever been started. ![]()
See my signature...it's quite a bit so far, and I haven't ordered Wave 7 or gotten my Raider yet. Justification? I enjoy playing the game. Is any other reason necessary?
Bought alot, sold alot, so in the end must have spent about 400$ on it, played over 100 games, so it is only 4$ per games.
I used to do ballroom dancing... what's the link? None really, but my contracts were around 6 to 7k a year, competitions, shows and shoes not included. Compared to that, playing X-Wing is very affordable
Woah, I'm doing ballroom dancing right now! I'm on the college ballroom team though, so the normally very expensive lessons are much cheaper through the team connections.
Cool plastic spaceships
This needs no justification
As for how much I may have spent....I don't really know.
No fewer than 10 starter sets have past through my wallet. That's not counting the 4 I have.
I.give them to people, play a few games with em, get em hooked, they buy more now I have more opponents.
Rinse and repeat.
I've been doing this since wave 1
Stegocent. I've done similar. Works a treat. ![]()

Let's see...
Core, 30
Imp Aces, 30
2 TIE Fighters, 30
2 TIE Bombers, 30
2 TIE Interceptors, 30
2 TIE Advanced, 30
2 TIE Phantoms, 30
2 TIE Defenders, 30
2 TIE Punishers, 30(32?)
So...$270.
Little bit more for carrying cases, card sleeves, and acrylic maneuver templates.
Edited by DarthEnderXWell my wife justifies this game by saying that I could have any number of hobbies. Many of which have a weekly expense that would in short order exceed what I spend on Star Wars: X-Wing. Personally I think I should cut back but that is mostly a budgetary constraint and the fact I think I tend to over buy here and there. Nevertheless I still love the game, models and Star Wars universe/genre.
A lot and because it makes me happy!
I've spent a LOT. I've won some stuff, and completed out my FFG collection of acrylic tokens on eBay. I also play MTG fairly regularly. Its easy, I don't drink/smoke. I'm at a point in my life where I've got some money in savings, a good job, and have the spending cash. Many people judge me for my spending habits on this game, but in the end I can think of 100's of worse (detrimental) things I could be doing with my cash. I can also think of better (more boring) things. So I think I've hit a great point and am happy for such a fun game!
+1
I don't rationalise it, because frankly, I don't care. I work bloody hard, pay my bills, donate to charity, spoil the wife and kid when I'm flush, and buy a crap ton of miniatures, which keep me out of the pub/casino/bookies/crack den.
I have at least one of everything, with 4-6 of each small, and even more of some, and yet I've spent a teeny fraction compared to my 2 40k factions, 2 soon to be obsolete Warhammer factions. I've probably spent more on infinity too.
Tldr: work hard, love hard, play with teeny tiny toys hard.
+1 exactly my thoughts I'm well over 1k and don't feel the need to state how many or justify, I'm happy I love playing, collecting, organizing and even enjoy taking them out of the packages. My bills get paid and I have a monthly budget xwing that I save for future waves.
I have developed almost a ritual for unboxing, edging the cardstock with a sharpie, assembling the ship, sleeving and filing the cards, and bedding the ships in foam.
It really shouldn't be so pleasurable, but I suspect I have a very slight dash of OCD in my make up, and new ships scratch that itch.
One purchase at a time, and I rationalize it by comparing the cost of a movie ticket and meal out. It's like an investment... kinda... right?
