New Core set Target exclusive on Force Friday

By vyrago, in X-Wing

I'm sure FFG has an agreement with Disney, and I get it and all, but I always kinda chuckle when a company goes crazy deleting leaks like that, cuz it's out there now and not going away.

It's not the part about it being out there that is a concern, it's the part about not wanting to get sued by Disney for not taking action in regards to something on their own website that they have complete control over. I don't think anyone wants FFG to get sued do we?

Just curious, I keep seeing this pop up about this new core set... But, why would l want it other than "new models." It has the same cards and jazz in it right?

Yeah, I could see someone not wanting x-wings with boost or TIE fighters with a shield and a 2 Segnor loop on their dial. :)

I'm fairly sure that if I go to the FFG Event Center on Friday there's a better then decent chance they'll have some there. Just because Walmart won't carry it at all doesn't really make it an exclusive.

I also kinda doubt that FFG is going to set up a situation where LGS' can't get new product for a month or so after Target.

Funny name for a toy shop?

I wonder if we will get them in the UK at all.

Also wasn't the story that Amazon had sent out new cores by accident on old core orders?

Of course you'll get them in the uk, don't be silly :-)

Some Canadian conjecture: Lion Rampant Imports is the sole FFG distributor for Canada. I have overheard conversations - which is not reliable, between a store and am employee about much complaining about the situation. Every Seller of x-wing i have contacted knows absolutely nothing about a new product. Canada may be out of luck, unless Toys R Us is getting the product.

No, of course not. It's still silly, even for Disney.

Considering that there wasn't a freaking huge "Target Exclusive" sticker on it, I'm going to go with it not being exclusive to Target. Sure, they may be the first to have it. But it will come elsewhere.

The thread title is highly provocative.

I'd expect it is Toys R Us. I asked today in Dartmouth and was told they have boxes of products but they don't know what. It's the only Toys R Us East of Ontario participating in Force Friday midnight openings.

Toys R Us carries the current store set, would be really surprised if they didn't carry the new one. My guess would be if FFG can't go through their normal distribution channels for FLGS they want the mass release to bring in new players.

It depends on what deals Disney has with retailers. If Target got into an exclusive agreement with Disney for Star Wars Episode 7 merchandise, and Disney has decided that the new core set fall under that category then it is feasible. Whether if it is true or not I guess that we will find out the whole story on Friday.

Maybe.....and this is actual pure speculation.....all the other places and online retailer know how to keep their stock a secret.

I think they are going to announce all of this stuff on thursday, that was a rumor after all. If they plan on making the set a timed exclusive at target, that would be a good time to announce it. I'm hoping they have other stuff lined up for release as well that we just haven't seen yet, like a FO tie expansion and t70 X wing...both of those with the core set would keep me busy for a little while.

I doubt ill go through the effort of waiting in line on a friday night, by midnight friday i'll probably have a good binge drinking episode going...so I can wait until the morning and scavenge around to see if there are any boxes leftover.

There is a YouTube announcement running all day Thursday into Friday guys, I am sure that FFG will get a foot in the door for a professional announcement.

Depends on what Disney says, remember this is Disney's movie not FFG.

Still I haven't seen any pictures of the new core set in this ad.

Why is Fantasy Flight basically F#@king over all Brick and Mortar stores by doing that?

Actually it will be starting this evening for some of us due to the time zone differences between North America and Australia.

Disney was in charge of this release and has said it would be major retailers only, with smaller stores to follow later. FFG had little to no say in the matter.

That really is pretty lame, its going to create a big demand for the new core set. I wouldn't be suprised if we saw copies show up on ebay for over 50 bucks. People picking up multiple copies and selling the rest on ebay for more. I was hoping to pick up the new set as my serious intro into the game, but we may get hit with a case of scarcity for a few weeks, hopefully not months.

Or there will be plenty and you just go and get one when you want to. Not every store is opening at midnight so plenty will have stock on Friday.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. If the new core set is available at major big-box retailers, how does that create scarcity? I can only buy my son's favorite kind of candy at Target, but that doesn't mean I'm going on Ebay to buy it at a 25% markup.

Yeah, I doubt a lot of the Star Wars stuff is going to be Amiibo rare.

I strongly doubt that this thing will be a target for eBay speculators. It's a miniatures game, not an Elsa doll.

Happen to be in a Walmart right now, they have an ad scrolling on their TVs for a midnight event for Star Wars on Friday. Don't know what they'll have.
