You don't see very many LW Fat Hans (which I find interesting), rerolling blanks right now.
You don't see Lone Wolf on many YT-1300s because Lone Wolf isn't a very good upgrade on a one agility ship that doesn't usually end up with focus tokens.

While Flight instructor only rerolls blanks against PS 2, PS 2 is/is going to be a significant part of the meta, with Tempest Squadrons, Gold Squadrons/Thugs, Rebel Operatives, etc . and potentially the return of swarms, albeit maybe with PS Bids to 3 or 4 to get above PS 2 TLT.
You block a single damage with it and it's met the cost of a shield upgrade. Shield typically isn't worth 4 points but you're probably going to stop 2-3 damage with it at least on a Firespray against TLT PS 2 spam. It's like defensive Predator provided you face PS 2.

Defensive Predator would have you rerolling up to two dice and give you a 50% chance of getting a positive result on each (that doesn't require spending a token). Flight Instructor only lets you reroll a single die and then you only have a 37.5% chance to get a desirable result. Predator remains a decent upgrade regardless of your target. Flight Instructor is a poor upgrade against anything other than a low PS list.
A friend that I was playing knew I'd be playing a list with a TIE AP mini-swarm so threw Flight Instructor and Sensor Jammer on Yorr and flew Carnor Jax with him (I think that the list also had Dark Curse with either Shield or Stealth). My poor APs just couldn't get any damage through on the shuttle, it was hilarious. Against a higher PS list, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as effective.
Edited by WWHSDI haven't tried Flight instructor but Sensor Jammer is really good against it from what I've seen.
Haven't read all of the thread yet, but Sensor Jammer is becoming a monster...
Flee... scurry... fly for your lives!!!

It does bring up another point though - Is this finally the wave that Ibby becomes a thing? At PS6, she's higher than all of the generics (even those who bid up to PS4), without wasting tons of points trying to get up to PS8+. If stressed, she can reroll her evade die without needing FI. She can also take SJ, which I maintain has been an underrated ability for awhile now. And heck, for good measure, she can take Tactician for board control (and it couples well with SJ). Finally, the BR allows her to reposition herself unlike an X wing.
Ibby w/ PTL, SJ, Tactician = 38 points. Worth a second look? Maybe, especially if you can synergize to get SJ to go off more often. With the reroll, she's rolling an evade 61% of the time (compared to 37% normally). If you can get SJ to trigger, she's essentially rolled a second evade as well. Heck, maybe you'd be better off with C3PO (or Jan) as your crew...

Ooh. Maybe, yeah.
(I've also always liked Elusiveness on Ibtisam, and if you're going for a hilariously defensive anti-TLT package...)

Put Wired on her, that would let her reroll up to two dice when attacking and defending. The only problem is making sure that you can stress her often enough.
I threw together a list built around Wired that uses her:
I got your anti tlt list right here:
TIE PHANTOM: Sigma Squadron Pilot (25)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)
Flight Instructor (4)

Edited by old_school_overlordThe biggest advantage of flight instructor is that it can activate more than once a round. This is probably the reason for such a high cost. Predator can activate multiple times, but it is rare to attack more than once.
Recon specialist on firespray gives you more balance between attack and defence. With flight instructor, if you also evade, you can boost your defence significantly, even against PS4+ enemies - flight instructor works as a micro focus - also when you use your action to do something else than focus. It works when paired with some offence boosting EPT or pilot skill.
It is not the best crew available but one of few defensive upgrades and the more enemies are shooting at you, the better it gets.
