Hopes for the future

By Ruvion, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

As I said, Darthvegeta800, I understand and I don't bother you.

But let me give you the advice of taking this great game and, as I said, forgive some "choices", because leaving a game for some thematic gaps, is not worth the deal.

;-)

P.S. thanks for the request. ;-)

Well I'm in already as 2 of my favourite factions are present. But had they not been... say there would not have been Chaos or Dark Elves, I might not have picked it up. Flavor is just as important as gameplay in my eyes.

In fact, given this game rules, it wouldn't matter to give each "non faction" it's own border and loyalty symbol. If yo're not giving them a Capital, you're not creating a Faction per se, their Loyalty Symbols would only mean "the more cards of this sub-strategy I play, the less they will cost" (the same Orc loyalty symbols means for a Chaos player, for example) which is, in fact, good for sub-strategies, and a good way to see more of these cards actually played, not mentioning the fact that thay would be much better visually speaking (I would rather look at a Skaven card with Skaven border and Skaven loyalty symbols and a Lizardmen card with Lizardmen border and Lizardmen loyalty symbols, than having a lot of grey neutrals.

First, I'm not sure that EVERY Skaven will be neutral, but that's a minor issues, compared with the actual concerns.

So, I'd like to ask (don't take it as a Challenge, but as a funny input, please): what Lizardmen and Skaven will do? And Vampires? Do you think there'll be enough choices to make them different?

The answer is NO, because it's impossible on a game design point of view to creat so many different strategies avoiding the risk to create "clone" factions.

And if it's just a matter of aesthetics/loyalty icons, it's not worth the deal, cause a "visual difference" doesn't make a Skaven different from a Vampire, except for aspect.

It's pretty difficult for me to explain this kind of concepts in a correct/proper english , so I hope you get the sense... ;-)

But if you can't make them play different, then there's no point in getting them to the game in the first place, with loyalty symbols or as neutrals, othewise all you get is a lot of "same card with different name" neutrals, which is even worse because:

1- They don't help other cards of the same "subfaction" play cheaper.

2- They look worse being neutrals.

I think Eric is good enough to construct ohter factions, which play different.

I think even the Elves will provide tactics we dont expect yet.

Just for the record, I was not talking about giving the game any more Complete Factions, factions with a Capital board, complete strategies and balancing issues, I think that would be a bad idea, 6 is a good number and mora of them would just turn the game in something impossible to balance.

We are more like talking about "sub-factions", Warhammer Table Game factions that are being introduced in this game as substrategies (groups of cards with sinergy between them and that add new strategy to it's Side) and if it would be better to add them as "Order Only" and "Destruction Only" cards, or give them their own border and loyalty symbols. It seems that some people prefer them to be just neutrals, while I was defending that giving them loyalty symbols and border just makes them better in the long run.

That's exactly what I want to see, the new races being introduced with their own loyalty icons but no capitals.

I think nthat would be very cool. I have no idea if they would do that, but I'd like to see it. Perhaps someone should send an email to NAte suggesting that if the Skaven aren't done that way. Maybe we'd get future ones done for the other races and Skaven going forward.

I quote Ruvion, that's a thing i tough about. Chaos has four Gods and branches(if you don't count the undivived one), so they should all be developed. I understand it couldn't be done in the Core Set(they should've added like a lot more cards for the Chaos this wasy) but i really hope to see the other Chaos manifestations in the future.

I would also like a lot to see new races(Undeads, Vampire Counts, Lizardmans etc.) but not now. As you said i'd like to see the actual races developed to have more strategies to choose between, and THEN see other races with their capital boards..but not now, it's too early gui%C3%B1o.gif

P.s. red now the last posts. I also think that having the new races with their capital boards could be hard to balance, but it would also be a lot restricting to have them as sub-factions. You would have to combine them with the various decks, races and capital so it would also be hard to balance imho.

They can always slide in the occassional 'new race card' in the add-on packs. And fully introduce them far later along the road with a set.

I like the idea of expanding Chaos powers/properties. I started playing Warhammer way back in '96 and loved how I could pick and choose between different Chaos "factions" or just clump them all together. I don't play the minis anymore, but from what it looks like, you can't do that.

Also, I am glad that other people like the idea of making new armies/races but not with new capital boards, just as part of the order or destruction thing.

Now, with both of these in mind, and what DB said back there, it would be too hard to do only 20 cards a month with all of this wonderful stuff in mind. So, I think that maybe once a year or so, FFG puts out a bigger expansion. Maybe not as much as the Core Set, but with an equal number of cards or so. They do this regularly with Arkham Horror, which is a board game, so why not the LCG?

The thing is, I know that people (not everyone, but many of us) would be willing to pay for it. I knew people buying multiples of the regular expansion packs for CoC, and while we can't all afford a lot all the time, people are paying the $40 or so for the Core. Once a year seems reasonable to me.

Your thoughts, sirs and madams?

I don't know about another set as big as the Core Set every year. Arkham Horror is a board game, and as such has a very different scope by which the players and designers operate under. I think something probably the size of the Companion Set coming out might be more realistic... but I also think that twice a year would not be a bad idea. I don't know if it would be another pair of playable races, and if it was what that would do to the Battle Packs (would people but an expansion knowing it was going to see minimal if any regular support?), but as far as a way of getting an additional boost to the environment for continuing players or newer players who don't need the entire set of accoutrements that go with a Core Set could get a smaller more focused set of cards.

I'mjust spit balling here.

I agree with most of you guys here, adding more factions at this time is not what is needed. It doesn't mean i wouldn't like to see other factions along the way. What is truelly needed is expansions of the 6 factions here. Most notable is Chaos, if any of you have played or read other warhammer series and games you know that Chaos is split of four major gods. Khorne is all about war and killing, Slaanesh is all about speed, Nurgle is all about corruption, and Tzetnch(can never spell his name right to lazy to look) is more of a range magical god. So going more indept in those four alone would be wonderful. Not to say that other factions don't have there own added themes. I mean dwarfs have red beard slayers, evles have blade dancers, etc. The Skaven pack coming out is a nice bonus, but like I and others have said go more indept on the core factions.

I'm not a Warhammer miniatures/rpg player...But I'm discovering the environment right now and I really like the general "feel"..:

So, here's a question...What about undead? Vampires? I know that there are some cause I remember some old discussions with a couple of friends of mine...

I don't want more factions, but I'd like to see some Vampires, I like the concept.

Anyway, about "mechanics":

- I'd like to see some "recursion" (get back cards from the discard) and deck manipulation (search your deck for GOD and put it into your hand, then shuffle the heaven).

- A couple more Keywords would be great. Keywords add variety to game design and game play...

- A good things would be "RACE-keywords", as per Agot: each race has its own Keyword. Not bad.

- I'd really like "multi-facion" cards.

More to come... ;)

I am on the same pagewith you DB. I would love to see Vamps come in game(vamps fanboy i guess). Its not just the fact that the art would look amazing but just the type of gameplay the undead could bring to the table. I also agree on added key words and searchable cards, I have been in many situations where all i needed was to search for a card and it would change the game for me. I do not want over powered cards, that is not what I am looking for. What I am looking for is more options.

I like almost everything involving a couple of fangs. ;)

Anyway...Search effects cannot be too much nor too easy to play...But the game needs a couple of them, as you said.

We have time, the game is "young", but I think they have to streghten the game-structure before puttin' in new stuff...That's the reason why I believe in sub-themes, but not in new factions.

I agree with you guys, I guess I didn't read through my post so much. I agree the game needs to get out of its infancy first, and then we can add new factions. However, remember that there are already four expansion packs planned, and while they will flesh out the elves and the skaven, they'll help get the game 'arolling. After that, sure, we could use some more stuff for all of this, but then again, we've got all the time in the world to wait, especially if they're pumping expansions out once a month.

As for vampires, I agree too. I've always love the Undead/Vampire Counts army, and the Tomb Kings army as well. Just as long as they're not sparkly vampires, I'll be happy.

I agree with a lot of what was said and I also think that this is probably all going to happen. Remember we only have the core set out right now. But FFG already has at least one full expansion ready (Corruption cycle) and I am sure there is at least one more ready to go and one in development. So a lot of what we are looking for might already be planned. At this point its too late for us to affect the Corruption cycle and how things are going to be upon release. I for one just want the battle packs to start coming out so we can expand the pool of available cards.

And I would like to know when the companion set is on its way out so we can get the Elves fleshed out.

I've only been able to play a few games with the core set, but after having seen the contents of the first battle pack I think I like where the game is going. The factions in the core set are solid, if not quite balanced. I think that by the time the first small expansion (Elves) arrives there will be a ton of options for players. Even just exploring all 6 of the existing factions at that point, and possibly the assorted team-ups possible would take a great amount of time. I'm content with the current six for now.

That said, I'd love to see Vampire Counts in as their own faction somewhere along the line, but if they got rolled into Chaos as a subtheme...I wouldn't complain too much.

I guess the existing factions will expand to include either common allies in WH world, or smaller related factions :

- Chaos could include Ogres cards and Chaos Dwarves (hope such cards will exist in the future), as their background are clearly related to each others.

- Orcs could include Lizardmen cards : their playstyle would be more or the less identical.

- High Elves could include Wood Elves.

However, to me, Undeads (Vampire Counts and Khemri) should be a faction of their own (or make heavy use of the "Undead" keywords like Skaven cards do).

Creating a 4th Destruction faction would ask to also create a 4th Order faction, but I don't see which one should be created (Bretonnians are a "lesser" faction to me).

I, too, would like to see use of the keywords in the next few expansions. We have many nice keywords (Cavalry, Goblins, Elite, Warrior, Mage, Sorcerer) on our units, and I'm eagerly looking forward to see nice cards taking advantage of those keywords.

Last, with every passing expansion, building theme deck will become viable (my true love would be a Nurgle-themed deck babeo.gif).

Orcs would not include Lizardmen, they are two very different factions. The Lizardmen are pretty distinct from any of the other race's.

And they'd most likely be order aligned.

I think they con make a new faction.

Eje:

1) Order

2) Destruction

3) "dont know th name" :P

here we can hace the new races.

Just an idea.

Juan

I know many of you are calling for new races as a stand alone faction, however I would like to call your attention to L5R for a moment. They started out with eight clans that were available to choos from and as the game has gone on they added another seven clans as playable factions with their own strongholds and of those seven additional clans only two are still playable. The others were all cut, granted they recieved amazing stories to explain why they were no longer available. Additional factions just create nightmares when it comes to supporting all of the factions equally. L5R does this simply by focusing on three clans at a time each expanison and the core sets are kind of a vanilla flavor to set the stage for the clans as a whole. Plus W:I would have to become a CCG again, which would make me sad.
