One of the recommendations I've been making to my local group is to buy every copy they want of anything that releases at big box retailers and not at FLGS. Clean 'em out, even. But save your receipts.
When the product releases at your FLGS, buy it there, and return that copy where you got it from originally. That way, the support goes where it should.
Target carries X-wing?

That is a flipping great idea! I's like's the way's you's think's, Sir.
Take note, all!
Forget the big department stores.
Support your LGS!
I don't play at or shop at a LGS. Amazon for me.
I bet if you let the community know your general area you could find more players at a LGS near you.
(not saying you want to meet new players and grow as a person...but if you did I am sure the community would help you)

There are multiple LGS in my area. I have no interest in them or hearing patronizing comments like the one above. Finding players or meeting new people, or even growing as a person is not the issue. I have other avenues for that.
Thanks for reinforcing my perception of the LGS community though
(in other words - the first sentence you wrote was fine and helpful, if a broad generalization and assumption. The second sentence stooped to a petty (albeit minor) personal attack that was unnecessary)

Nothing quite like subjecting yourself to criminal liability due to a lack of patience and the desire to shift a few dollars. Good luck with that.
Post removed because I don't have time to give a crap about it.
Edited by HidatomI question the tactic of purchasing at Target then returning product later once it's at the local store but not sure how that is a criminal liability.

That clown is a pretty regular personal attacker on here. A true master at perpetuating the stereotype. I like the irony of him telling others that they are the ones who need to grow as a person.
The downside to trying to run off with all the stock of a big store's product and sell it off vigilante-style is that the everyday person who can only afford (or only knows) to shop at those large retail stores will not be able to purchase the game now, and thus your community loses out on potential new players. Which if you're like me, you would love to see some growth in the local active tournament community. And if indeed they only sell core sets, it's foolish to take away an avenue for people to get started on the game. Once they fall in love with it, they'll find where to buy ships and play games in the future. But the casual-gamer everyman doesn't know about or think about LGS's most of the time.
Edited by KTreu42I didn't purchase it then but the first time I ever heard of the X-Wing game was seeing it on the shelf at Target and thinking....huh - that's interesting. I think it is great if they get more exposure in big box. Good games need to find bigger audiences and Target (in the US at least) is a good place for that exposure.
And, I'll expand on my previous comment of purchasing off Amazon because I don't go to the LGS. If I *did* go the LGS, I would certainly be of the mindset to support the local shop, help offset the cost of my using their space to play, helping out the little guy, etc... but since I don't use any of those additional services at an LGS, I feel no obligation to help that particular business. Money saved on my X-Wing addicti....err...hobby by purchasing on Amazon is money that I can use for other things I do find important, like local charities, local arts and culture, locally grown food, etc... so before casting aspersions saying that people that shop at Amazon don't care for the little guys - some of us do - but there are lots of little guys, everywhere, in different contexts. #twocents

A cross-retailer return is fraud. Silly as it may seem, stores can take fraudulent returns very seriously.
You should read the original post, nobody is suggesting a cross-retailer return. The suggestion was to return your product you bought from the big box.
My FLGS didn't even know there was a new edition coming. They said neither of their distributors had solicited for it. I'm going to Target.
It's not a new edition, it's a new product in the existing product line.
Probably terms the big stores made in order to sell the product.
Or terms designed for the convenience of Disney when distributing Wave 7 products.
Hope you won't need to wait that long. Rumor going around is that the new damage deck will be required for tournaments going forward. I hope it's not true but you never know.
No one outside FFG knows what the next set of tournament rules will say. The best policy is to ignore any rumors that aren't backed with substantial evidence.
(The rumored new deck will be required for tournament play starting on mm/dd/yyyy. FFG wouldn't go to the trouble of putting together a new deck unless they thought it makes the game better to do so. But I guarantee you no one here or elsewhere online has any firm idea of whether it will or won't be.)

No one has advocated cross-retailer return. Two people have advocated returning sets bought at Target to Target, and using the refund to purchase a new set at the FLGS.

Wasn't meant as an insult, nor was I assuming you don't care for the little guy. I was referring to helping the little guy in general. I always go with the little guy, but thats just me. If I can't afford to go with the little guy with anything, than I just go without. It's the example I set for my children, because that's how my moral compass works.
Being part of the problem in order to afford charity is like robbing Peter to pay Paul. I view that as helping society by hurting society. I see no personal sacrifice in that.
I'm not assuming you're a bad guy, and I hope you don't find my words insulting. I just view things differently is all.
Sorry if I have crossed you.
Ill be dropping by Target. I support my FLGS plenty, but if they don't have something, ill look elsewhere. My local store will be getting plenty of my business when wave 8 comes out, and they get their wave 7 restock.
