so...Force Friday...

By Hidatom, in X-Wing

We still have no official confirmation of FFG products at Force Friday...

will we get a news item this week telling us there will be FFG product at Force Friday?

I believe the umbungo lifts on Thursday but it may not even be until Friday itself.

Yeah prolly...

The big merchandise reveal event is 18 hours live on YouTube on sept 3. Starting in Australia(so technically the 2nd for North America)

I'd expect an announcement by ffg on the third.

It seems like most (all?) of the other new stuff has been shown in various ads and catalogs.

I'm a little curious that we never got a Wave VII in stores! article. I find this whole Force Friday thing a little strange. Anyone planning on lining up outside a store with no clear idea of what is about to go on sale? Lego? Board Games? Will my store even carry the items I really wanted?

If it ain't on CoolStuff or MiniMart then I am not to excited to rush out and get anything at full price.

Not cheap... just smart enough to wait for my game shops to be in stock.

:D

Good question! I've aimed it at FFG a couple of times, and haven't gotten a response. At this point, I'm planning on heading to my local Target and finding out, because it's less than a mile from my house. I'm hoping that (a) it won't be an obnoxious line, and (b) they actually have something I want.

I do think it's a little silly to play all this so close to the vest. It's not like we need to have any more excited added to this stuff.

Make sure your local Target is actually participating. I live in the Greenville, South Carolina area, and only one of the Greenville Targets is actually opening at Midnight for Force Friday. The next closest stores for me are in Athens, GA and Charlotte, NC. The Target less than a mile from my house is not participating, and I have to work on Friday, so I may not get to go to the one 20 minutes away...:-)

Target already has their Force Friday Website up, which allows you to search by brand: FFG was not an option.

You can find out if yours is by going here.

I'm going to be at NoVA Open on friday, and I'm hoping they'll have some there I can get my hands on. It's the same day as the ITS tourney I'm in, so I'm not hopeful that I'll be able to get one before they sell out, if they have them.

It is unlikely that local game stores will have any Episode 7 X wing stuff on their shelves on Friday. FFG doesn't allow distributors to distribute their products until they are revealed. So stores that have same day shipping, maybe. For the one-three day shipping expect to spend your money on Mon. or Tues. Rules are different for Target and Walmart. But they only sell the core sets of X wing anyway, so if the two remaining SKU's are expansions then your FLGS is the place to go. On a personal note this week is going to suck.... so much anticipation!

I'm pretty sure FFG's usual marketing strategies aren't in the driver's seat for this expedition.

Yes they do have the webpage up but if you look in all the categories, all they are showing is stuff they ALREADY have available that will be discounted on force Friday. They don't show any episode 7 stuff from what I saw. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot but I went to their force Friday page and then they have categories such as toys, entertainment, clothing etc and by clicking on one of those takes you to the pages of those items and their sale price. This may be why ffg is not showing on your search.

Oh I know this isn't FFG's call. I think it's silly on the part of Disney. Like there's not enough anticipation of these movies as it is, we need to keep people in the dark until the day the stuff comes out.

Yup. If you look for some of the new Episode 7 stuff Hasbro spoiled in their catalog, you won't find it listed in the Target search.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much experience Disney's marketing megalith has with a tabletop gaming audience in general and the audience for this game in particular. But I also can't see how they could have justified letting a tiny partner like FFG go ahead while still pushing major players like Hasbro to respect the embargo, so... it seems like a bit of a lose-lose for everyone.

Or at least, it would if everyone involved didn't stand to rake in fantastic amounts of cash. They'll have that to console them, at least.

I'm looking at it now and Hasbro was also not an option, so I don't think that really means much.

EDIT: Hasbro showed up when I hit "See All Options". As others have mentioned, I'm not seeing anything that is Episode VII merchandise.

I just called up the guys at Mini Market and asked them if they had a shipment coming in for FF. The fine young fellow I talked to was surprised and did not even know the game was coming. I told him the backstory and he looked it up on Google while we chatted. He said there was no shipment info on it at all. So no, the game sellers we buy from ain't getting anything this friday. If MM is not hearing from FFG then neither is Cool Stuff.

;)

Dst means that I can buy a bunch of Wave 7 goodies and get the new FA X-Wing next month or there abouts.

:)

Disney has stated that the force friday release is 'major retailers' only. Target, Walmart, Toys R US and Disney Stores. Will they have FFG x-wing? who knows. All the leaks have been from Target so far.

It seems like most (all?) of the other new stuff has been shown in various ads and catalogs.

Unofficially leaked for the most part, other than Lego stuff. I suspect the gag order comes off on Thursday.

The comment from the CEO at Gencon is enough of an official statement for me. Although it doesn't have to mean that every retailer will have something from FFG.

I was told my local Walmart (no Target here) will be putting stuff on shelves at 12:01 on Friday. I may wander over there to see if it is much of an event at all and see what they have. I'm up at that time of day anyway.

My local Walmart has the shelves all marked out already with prices and names of the items on the tags. Nothing X-Wing miniature game sadly. Seems like Toys R Us is more likely up here in Canada.
