Geez, another price hike in Canada ...

By Kallel00, in X-Wing

So, what can be found @ 9.99$ US is now 15.95$ Canadian .. a whooping 60% exchange rate ....

Guess I guess I'm just gonna start buying X-Wing during my yearly trip in the US ...

the C-dollar's not doing too well, eh? :(

Considering how crappy our dollar is right now that might not save you much

Still ridiculous.

You get free medical and you're complaining about $6...

Try paying for something from Euro zone.

You will be happy with how Cdolar stands.

You might actually want to look at how the system works.

Compare it to the American insurance system and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah it's nuts. I've cut the amount I'm buying by quite a bit now. i left most of wave 7 on the shelf -- not worth the $21 per miniature+tax. All game prices are up, but FFG's prices are especially crazy.

Maybe I'm just jaded from years of 40k and WFB. These prices are still nothing in comparison. I'm no money-bags and it's amazing to have a game as cheap as this and not need to pay to win in a non tournament setting which I had to to do even in my local 40k gaming group of friends.

I also live in Canada. I didn't realize there was that great of a disparity between us and United States but I've never really looked at American pricing. So ignorance was bliss I guess. Now I know and can never un-know! Oh cruel fates!

I used to pay retail and support my FLGS, but with their markup + CAD exchange...its forced my to buy online.

In Toronto, 401 Games and Meeplemart both had suggested retail prices for American dollars somehow... Not sure if that's changed. Still, I'm not buying online currently and I don't find a drive to Toronto and parking worth the few dollars savings... I'll just suffer the price raise. Look about at different shops though, if you have that option. Big differences between stores from Oakville to Toronto.

Always wanted to support FLSG ... and I never really compared prices with board games & stuff ...

However, for miniatures like X-Wing, the difference does pile up quite a bit in the long run ...

If you re looking at a 400$ collection, the 30% difference between US & Canada (actually, it's higher than that because of taxes), then you're looking at roughly a 120$ extra worth of minis ...

Yup, the Raider cost me $35 more than what you pay for it on CSI.

A Hound's Tooth will cost me $7 more.

And that's on the cheapest webshop in my country, ex shipping.

But fail to support your FLGS long enough, and there won't be any FLGS to play at. It's all about balance. My local is certainly more expensive than the Toronto shops, but I still buy at least half of all my product here. Why? Because the staff is incredibly friendly and supportive for the game, they always make sure we have a clear 6' x 4' table when we want one to play X-Wing, Armada or Imperial Assault on (even when they need to move all their new comics on release day to make room for us), and they're always happy to have us put up our event notices in their shop. It's a huge plus when it's a 10-minute drive from my home to the shop, instead of a 90+ drive to Toronto.

Forced? Really?

No one is forcing you do to anything. It's a game of toy plastic spaceships where we say "pew pew!" and make pretend explosions. If you're going to buy somewhere else, own the reason. Don't make it sound like you're the victim here.

Oh, sure I throw enough my store's way and they are a main supplier of our family's come Christmas and birthday times.

a figure of speech. merely seeking to stretch my dollar, its purely selfish.

PEW PEW PEW!

I am local to 401 and meeplemart, and go to both regularly. The prices there are still excessive -- but I think they are probably as low as they can go for them to make a profit. I think there's only one distributor in Canada for FFG (Lion's Rampant), so the prices are pretty much fixed. I've seen higher than 401 and meeplemart, but never lower within Canada (at least, for FFG products).

You are correct. Lions Rampart are the only game in town. And I envy you being local to those two shops. Just dropped $30 on a ship tonight in Oakville. Not finding much for gaming either in my local area so I have to travel to Toronto just to game.

I like to think I'd buy a lot of my ships from my FLGS anyway, but it definitely helps that there's a membership program with cash discounts. The owner's also nice and friendly, so that helps. But as it is, I buy 90% of my ships from him and in fact just got one of everything Wave 7 for $65 (effectively regular price on all the small ships and 75% off Hound's Tooth).

I'd kill to pay those prices mate. Here in Australia (closest to where our toys are actually manufactured) we pay $25au for standard small base ships. The Punisher & K-wing run $32au. The most ridiculous part is that we essentially are paying for two lots of overseas shipping - once from the factory to the States and then from the States back to Oz.

I know that's not how is really allocated but we're still charged like it is.

Yeah! $23.99 for small based ship at my FLGS here in NSW, Australia. I thought it was cute when the OP said $16 was crazy. I bought some models in Saskatoon, Canada and was stoked to see them at $18.
