Tournament Report from Last Weekend.

By WWPDSteven, in Star Wars: Armada

This was using Garm's Rulebreakers (Garm's Gups).

I think and play like a first player. I am not sure how to switch my mindset to being second player. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but you are likely right. Going second against a 2 VSD's with Motti and, 5 bombers, Rhymer, Fel and Vader was bad. . .

I've gotten quite used to going 2nd. What objectives did you take, Lyr?

All 3 ranked about by DT. They all fit right since my last tournament which I ran Dangerous Territory and found it a wash.far too squeamish of an objective I think

@Lyraeus : Don't worry, going second with Rebels can be tricky !

One easy thing that I've noticed is to deploy one speed lower than I would if I went first (unless the ship is a Vic 2 at speed 1 already :P ). On top of that, you might want to have a ship that is tanky enough to soak up a couple of damage. Either a CR90 with ECM (so you can ensure the use of Redirect) that bails away (I'm going to call my tanky Corvette the Bail Organa from now on :D ). Either a Guppy that can take a punch and dish it in return.

Example : When going second, deploy the Corvette straight up in front of a Victory at speed 3 (the B variant is the best choice for that imho), move forward and tilt it two clicks at the end (activate after the VSD).

When the VSD activates to get you, you'll be just out of medium range and can for sure take a punch with Concentrate Fire (You'll be able to use your Redirect and your Evade to stop the dreaded 4 double hits worst case scenario). With an Engineering command, you can then proceed to repair shields (or move them around) and flank him to be exclusively on his side arc. When you activate, you'll have both your front and side at medium range, so better make good use of that Overload Pulse, Ion Cannons or Dodonna's Pride !

When going first, you can sait up the CR90B as a bait at speed 4, usually driving VSDs to deploy right in front of you at Speed 1 and do the exact same trick except you activate first. Try this maneuver, I find that it works really well !

You kind of have one shot at this, but if you can tank a VSD, I'm pretty sure you can hop around a Demolisher :)
