Tournament Report from Last Weekend.

Let's go read how Garm's Rulebreakers did

They worked out for me! Not so much for Jud :)

Poor Eric. . . If I was new to the game, a triple Guppy list would be a huge pain!

You could do what Mikael does and take pictures of the cards used by each opponent.

Great review. I hope I can live up to your standards

Very cool read and congratulations on the win ! :)

Out of curiosity, how did the Rhymer Ball really damage you, and how did you decide to deal with it ? Tanking and avoiding it ?

The Rhymer ball hurt for sure. I just took it on the chin as best I could, and was very very cautious about burning defense tokens when he was rolling those black dice. At the end of that game, my middle frigate had 5 damage cards and 0 shields... so I barely dealt with it :)

You seem to have forgotten your squadrons...?

Grrrr.....

Interesting !

And out of curiosity, did he throw them every turn, or did he only use them 1-2 turns ? I'm trying to make a case for a minimal fighter screen for a tournament list that can double up as an off bomber wing, and that intel would be invaluable :)

Grrrr.....

That was the previous tournament, and I did exactly what I intended to do- let Eric borrow my Y-Wings to fulfill my obligation :)

He threw the Rhymer ball every turn. I can't remember a time it wasn't firing.

Thanks a lot :) So, yeah, a couple of fighters to kill a Bomber or two, or even tie them up if he doesn't have Chiraneau, is going to be a sound investment. Thanks !

Aye. Now, he DID have Chiraneau- he just wasn't needed in our game :)

Hi there Steven, thanks for another great tournament report. Your fleet really intrigues me - even though it would mean buying a third assault frigate! I've been using a list casually that shares a few elements and I'm considering leaving my shell and giving it a go in my first tournament next weekend.

AFMkIIB w/ Dodonna, ECM, Enhanced Armament, Gunnery Team - 116pts

AFMkIIB w/ ECM, Enhanced Armament, Gunnery Team - 96pts
Neb-B Support w/ XI7 Turbolasers, Salvation - 64pts
2x A-wings - 22pts

298 Points Total

Opening Salvo / Hyperspace Assault / Superior Positions

I want to love Advanced Projectors and maybe getting those on the table is my next job. The A-wings are only there as insurance to frustrate bomber lists, otherwise maybe 22 wasted points? 22 points seems like a lot of insurance. Could put Raymus on the Salvation and get some Intel Officers on the orcas for that cost.

Addtionally, getting Garm in the list looks like it could be accomplished by going to the Advanced Projectors... But only if I go with the officers (21pts) over the two fighter squadrons (22pts). But with Garm, would I then even need Raymus on the Nebulon... You've given me a lot to think about - and I needed a Monday distraction!

I want to stick with my current component limitations - so only two assault frigates are going. Hyperspace assault is there to get Salvation in the best possible position to unleash that front arc - and so that my opponent can't deploy to take early advantage of the spindly sides. I've seen an ACM Gladiator eat her alive and I want to mitigate that risk by forcing my opponent to react to her late. Hopefully just those few turns out of position could take Salv out of their reach. Otherwise, I'm not in love with that objective and would probably not use it if I went to a third guppy. Honestly, I think anyone looking at my list would skip hyperspace for all of the above reasons anyway.

Ugh, I am too wordy. Who knows! I'll see after this weekend if it turns out to be terrible and I'm crawling back to the store in shame to buy the third assault frigate. Feeling a little iffy about tournament #1, so I'd welcome any critique or advice on the current iteration!

haha awesome! I do sort of wish I had had 2 A-Wings... but I don't know what I would've dropped to get them...

One of the ancestors of this list (in our small group at least - your list ancestry will certainly vary) was the twin AF2 list with a couple CR90s in support and a Tycho to disrupt nefarious bombing plans. I know for a fact that what you're talking about works, Dusksong, because it's worked for me before! The only difference was spending 16 on Tycho rather than 22 on two vanilla A-Wangs.

Aye. Now, he DID have Chiraneau- he just wasn't needed in our game :)

Which is why Wedge/Dutch are going to go for the kill when they have Chiraneau, and go for the stall when they don't :D

I'm coming from an over-dependence on my preference for the kiting/broadsides style of the AF2. That being said, I have high hopes for wave two options!

Version one had two over-upgraded orcas with a mini A-wing swarm (Like 4-6 of them, yikes?). Even casually, the A-wings were overkill and did not provide the desired impact for thier points over the Neb-B that replaced most of them. I feel I can accomplish the same objective with a pair of them. It's like the list tried to overdo both offense and defense and just didn't feel great at either. Two ships were too few even upgraded to the teeth, then Mon Mothma and so many screening A-wings were too heavy of an investment.

I have no table time with Garm or Advanced Projectors yet, so I'm going to go into tourney #1 with what I "know," but it's nice to consider options like Garm that otherwise weren't on my radar at all. :) Keep up the good work guys.

I kinda prefer Mothma, but Garm is well worth the 5point discount. I'm going with Garm one more time.

Also, a guy showed me his deployment technique for the AFs. I feel utterly invincible.

You can't just say that and then not share with the forumites! Out with it mon, what is this invincible deployment technique?!

Yup. Still no medal. . . I feel so inferior. . .

What happened in your games?

Actually, I was just about to ask you what yours was! hahaha.

Hmm, should we share this.... hMMMM. I like my 3guppies build though. hmmm. The dark side is strong ....

Edit: Also I stole it off my previous opponent. So its not my invention ^^.

You will read it in HNN but I just can't play second player. I move and position as if I am first player. I am playing to proactive and should be more reactive.

I will try and write something up on AFN. Just so depressed with my inability to do well.

Aww. Don't worry. Being second without squad is like playing with an arrow in your knee. I hate it.

I'm gonna bid more in the future i think.
