So, ... is this the most active forum for FFG's Star Wars RPGs?

By jhaelen, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'd be grateful for any pointers to other forums that are fairly actively discussing them!

To be honest I strongly dislike that FFG has separate forums for the three RPG Core Rulebooks and Starter Sets. That makes little sense if you want to discuss general topics about the system or setting.

I just finished reading all three Core Rulebooks, and I'm considering to start a campaign, so I've been wondering if you could recommend some official or fan-made adventure modules for the game.

How good are FFG's adventure modules anyway? How well are they suited for a campaign that is intended to mix material from the three Rulebooks?

Are there any good adventure modules that were created for different rule sets (d6, d20, Saga) that may be worth converting?

I'd be grateful for any pointers to other forums that are fairly actively discussing them!

This is the most active forum I know of for discussing FFG’s SWRP games.

Yeah, I think the boards could definitely use some re-organization. The community has been commenting about that for a while, but so far not much has happened. If you wanted to contact the developers and register your thoughts, that might help.

But overall, the developers don’t have time to visit these boards much. We have a thread where we collect the questions that have been asked to the developers and their official responses, but otherwise we’re mostly just members of the community.

EDIT: Please note that I don’t fault the developers for not spending time here. The forums can be a total cesspool and a maximum time-suck, and frankly I would rather they spent their limited time trying to make more great content for the game than wasting their time playing babysitter here in the forums.

Each of the lines has (or will have) one or more official module books, plus the modules in the back of the respective Core Rule Books, the modules that come in the respective Beginner Boxes, and the modules that come with the respective GM Kits.

IMO, any of these official modules could be used with a mixture of the three systems, but they’re generally intended to be used primarily with the one they were developed for. But the systems are very flexible and work together pretty well, although there are some minor differences between them due to the different focus of each line.

I’ve heard lots of good things about a wide variety of modules and adventures that have been created over time, but I don’t have personal experience with any of them.

There is a search box at the very top of the page for this site, and you know best the kind of things you might be looking for.

There is a module in the back of each core book. A second module in each GM screen. There are 2 adventures with a third coming for Edge of the Empire. Beyond the Rim and Jewel of Yavin. With the third coming Mask of the Pirate Queen. There is 1 for Age of Rebellion Onslaught at Arda I and one coming for force and destiny Chronicles of the Gatekeeper.

Edge of the Empire Forum came first so most players come here with general FFG Star Wars stuff. With the other 2 being more focused on the specifics for those lines.

This IS the forum you're looking for.

Beyond the Rim has been quite well received.

Only just realised it's jhaelen at the top there - something of a Call of Cthulhu LCG guru who has responded to my newbie questions many a time.

How the devil are you, good sir?

Welcome!

This is the most active forum because this is the OLDEST forum. A year older than AoR's and 2 older than F&D. A lot of the mechanics questions have been hashed out here, so it's unlikely to be drawn up on the other two threads (unless it heavily involves mechanics in those books.

That and (I think) the thread count includes the Gamemaster Sub-Forum.

Thanks, it's great to know I'm in the right place here :)

Howdy! To be honest I'm right now a bit disenchanted with CoC. I still think it's the best LCG out there, but I just don't enjoy playing the game at the tournament level anymore. It's become too cutthroat for my taste.

It's actually part of the reason I'm looking into starting a new RPG campaign right now ;)

It's a pity that FFG doesnt maintain a Forum Monkey like I've seen some business do - mind you, he would be able to say much past "We dont comment on future products", but some kind of interactivity would be cool.

Mind you, I can only think of one other game (HERO system) where you can email the lead with ideas and the like - so that's pretty cool.

It would be nice. it would be nice if they could go to the devs and ask a question and come back with the answer squashing arguments.

If I have to choose, I’ll take the latter over the former. The members of the community should be able to manage the rest.

Another Hero junky :)

We do get around.....

I will agree that the forum arrangement is clunky. There really should just be a Main forum with EotE, AoR, and F&D operating as subforums. And then of course the GM sub forum.

That is logical, yes. However, I understand a little bit about the forum software they’re using, and I know it can be a royal pain to move some stuff around, while other stuff can be moved with surprising ease.

So, without knowing more about the details of exactly what they’re using and why it was set up that way and what their future plans are, I’m not really in any kind of a position to criticize very much.

Phooey! This is the internet! Your reasonable discourse and logic have no place here!

RARRH! GET THE TORCHES! BURN FFG TO THE GROUND!

I'd wager that a few books into F&D, after the launch marketing push has slowed down, we'll get a unified 'Star Wars Roleplaying' board (all the products have that logo on 'em, after all).

Come to think about it, it possibly would have been a really bad idea to have a sole 'Star Wars Roleplaying' board before all three cores were out - can you imagine how many "why can't I be a Jedi" threads we would have had then?? :o

Of course, I understand FFG have other 'compartmentalized' games, and they probably have their own forums, too. Still, I think it'd be wise to integrate... the more that players are aware of all the other material, the more they're going to want it. :P
