Just went undefeated in my first ever Team Epic tournament, which represented my first ever Epic games as well. Not only did my partner and I win, but we enjoyed what was for our opponents a frustratingly high margin of victory (I don't have the numbers - was too excited the whole time to be as diligent as I should've been with my notes but will post a more comprehensive batrep when I get figures from my teammate). What I know for sure is my partner alone accounted for more than 740 points of enemy ships destroyed, which was more than the tournament total for some teams. Most of that damage came from his CR90, shooting at PS12 thanks to my Roark Garnet.

I think a large part of our success was due to suboptimal Raider builds, as we faced one in every round, crippling two to the point of ineffectiveness and destroying another outright. The OVERWHELMING majority of our losses were to my bonehead mistakes in letting my fighters get run over by the **** CR90. In fact, in the final match against the only other undefeated team, they only managed to kill a single B-Wing whereas I got my HWK and an X-Wing squished and flew another X-Wing off the table.
But anyway, the whole point of all of this is actually to say THANK YOU to the awesome X-Wing forums community - everything that I did right all day long, I learned on here. A big part of what I did actually do right came down to my list, as you guys taught me to eschew expensive named pilots in favor of lots of ships and lots of dice. You guys also clued me into Roark being a thing in Epic, and hooooly crap did our opponents get tired of the CR90 shooting first. My Red Squadron pilots skill bid actually didn't pay off for me, but I think that's mostly due to a relatively immature Epic meta in my area wherein most of my opponents sunk too many points into aces. The Warthogs were the most underwhelming by far, and I see why many here recommend engine upgrades for them as they were just at range 3 too often and therefore couldn't double-tap. It did feel freaking sweet to sink a fatty Decimator with seismics though...
TL;DR - I'm here to learn, and clearly I've learned a lot already. It won me a free ship today, so thanks to all of you that are putting real knowledge out there for us noobs!
