TIE Defender + TIE Bomber Ace Pack

By Odanan, in X-Wing

I called it! :P

Your accuracy was uncanny. Nice one.

**** OP. You must be going through the trash at FFG HQ.

No, that was FFG digging through the crap on this forum and finding a diamond in the rough. Or OP thinks just like a game designer.

I'd love to see a title or something that let bombers be bombers. Specifically launching more than one munition at a time. In what movie, video game, comic or what have you have you ever seen a bomber drop one missle and scream like a girl running away. Empty those tubes boys, make that cost worth it and ram some boomers up the falcons tailpipe. Dodge this you 3po *****.

Defenders need a canon upgrade of some sort, I love the Empire and always will. Let's put teeth back on these dogs and unchain them.

edit. Hell I'll even be fair for the bomber, shoot one missle and if it hits you get to fire another, same target no lock required, and again and again as long as you have the stones to throw and score 1 hit. They get one shot to dodge it, if not they will get hammered.

FFG forgot to make this one:

I did something like that, thinking on the Assault Gunboat:

x_wing_miniatures_game___custom_upgrade_

BTW, here is another card of mine that works very similarly with what we will get in the new expansion:

x_wing_miniatures_game___custom_tie_bomb

Firepower is a bit lousy on this one.

System upgrade on the Tie Shuttle title would have been boss.

Yes, the ship actually has only one cannon. It is not meant to fight, after all. ;)

Looks like you were spot on with some of your predictions!! Amazing, especially with the two tie defender title cards.

Why do those shuttles have bomb chutes?

He really wasn't.

So Jerjerrod can space people to void crits.

I didn't find a good image without bomb chutes...

If anything, his title cards were more generous than the ones we actually got. The x7 (at the correct cost) granted the evade action instead of a free token. The combination of the /D and the Linked Cannons mod have similar effects to the actual title, but replace the cannon's cost reduction with actual damage. He also called the usage of Countess Ryad and Tomax Bren as pilots, including the Countess at PS5 for 34 points.

Plus the whole part about his calling the Defender and Bomber as the package contents in the first place.

I'd say that his predictions were much closer to what we actually got than anyone would have had reason to expect.

Explanation: he's a wizard. A time travelling wizard. That timetravels. And he works at FFG, time traveling wizarding department of wizardly traveling in time.

He's prolly an x-wing beta tester for FFG and made slight changes to his predictions from the actual product or gave us the early beta info.

He correctly guessed the contents of Imperial Veterans, he called two of the new named pilots in the pack, and parts of some of the cards share concepts with FFG's cards. He clearly has pretty solid intuitions about game design.

In fact, I'd completely agree that Odanan's guesses were closer than anyone else's, and were considerably better than the average.

But I've always felt as if you dishonor people's actual accomplishments by artificially inflating them, as the person I quoted did. They weren't supernaturally accurate psychic predictions: they were a set of solutions developed by an intelligent, independent-minded person to the same set of problems FFG had to solve, which is why they resemble at least the outline of FFG's solutions.

If that were true, it would be a very dumb thing to do. How long do you suppose someone would stay a playtester after publicly posting pre-production materials?

That would be true if we logged in as our real names. I just find some of these guesses to be way to accurate to be wild hunches. Especially since he didn't guess right on one thing but on multiple things.

You're adorable. Suppose my real name, city, and state aren't associated with my forum account, and that I'm a playtester for X-wing. FFG has my real name, physical address, and at least some idea of who else tests the game with me.

So they see me post a whole bunch of in-progress stuff on the forum. They don't know exactly who I am, but they know my IP address, which means they can nail down my location to within a 25-mile radius or so. They then e-mail everybody who's signed an NDA in that region and start raising Cain. They say that this is a serious breach of trust, and unless somebody comes forward (or is pushed forward), or everybody in the playtest group is (at a minimum) going to have their NDA pulled and will never work with FFG again in any capacity, on any project.

So now my friends are involved, and they're going down with me unless I 'fess up. So either I own up to breaking my NDA, and lose access as a playtester and maybe some friends, or I don't own up and I still lose access and I almost certainly lose some friends. Either way, I'm sure not going to be in a position to burn FFG again.

But I've always felt as if you dishonor people's actual accomplishments by artificially inflating them, as the person I quoted did.

Gotta disagree there. Odanna's guess was about as close as could be to correct and still believably not come from insider information. That, I think, satisfies the colloquialism "spot on" that william used.
