Major Rhymer and Mauler clarifications

By Chrissr09, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Just wanted to make sure I am correct regarding these two special pilots.

Major Rhymer effect: I can use all die (including squadron defense die) when resolving his effect. I.e. A tie fighter would use his 3 anti squadron die and his ship die for a total of 4 die rolled.

Mauler Mithell effect: A previously engaged squadron suffers damage when he moves. Not when he moves to engage a squadron.

I just want to be 100% for certain with these things since I'm the main one hosting the games at the local shop.

unfortunately you are off on both counts.

Rhymer only works on the anti-ship dice used by squadrons. So your tie bombers next to rhymer can fire their black anti-ship dice at medium range rather than range 1.

Mauler damages every enemy squadron that he is engaged with after he executes a maneuver.

Major Rhymer: No.

Battery Dice are the Red square. You do not include the Anti-squadron dice.

Mauler Mithel: No. His ability occurs when he engages which occurs when he moves into distance 1 from an enemy squadron(s)

Ok. Thanks for correcting me.

Maulers damage doesn't count if he moves out of contact with Adrmial Chirnaeu right?

Mauler Mithel moves into Engagement with people - Smacks them for 1 damage.

Mauler Mithel survives the Enemy Activation Phase.

Mauler Mithel "moves" out of Engagement with Admiral Chiraneau... He does his move - however big, or however small, and when he finishes moving... Smacks every enemy he's now engaged with for 1 damage... Even if they were the same people as before.

Think of it kind of like a Collision with Ships... its when you finish moving.

It's not really a "smack" but more like a big b!tch slap really.

Which makes him SO worth the points!

The only difference between those two is your respect for the target, after all...

Also don't forget that squadrons can move at 0 speed. So if you activate an engaged Mithel with Chirneau - but you don't want to actually alter his position, you may "move" 0 speed, and still cause the damage.

But you do need Chirneau in this example because otherwise he can't move while engaged, not even a 0 speed move.

Maybe I must create a new thread but my question is about Mauler so...

Heavy doesn't prevent engagement. It prevents the engagement effects right? So Mauler deals damage to y-wings and tie bombers.

If Mauler is at 1 of an enemy squadron but they are obstructed, they are not engaged so Mauler ability doesn't work in this case.

Am I wrong?

Heavy does engage fighters but they can still move away and attack ships while engaged with heavy squadrons. This is why the TIE Fighters and Interceptors swarm will trigger if there is a TIE Bomber engaged as well.
