New to Xwing. Trying out Rebs.

By Geryon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey what's up guys,

So I've been playing armada for a while but I'm having trouble finding games In my area...

Still gotta get my Star Wars fix somehow so I picked up two of the starter sets and have access to pretty much any cards from any set thanks to the big x-wing scene..

Anyway there's a 100pt tournament coming up in a couple of weeks and I was thinking of picking up a falcon and using this list.. Was wondering what you guys thought.

YT-1300 (Han Solo) 58pts

- Millennium Falcon Title Card

- C3P0

- R2D2

- Shield Upgrade

- Draw Their Fire

2x Rookie Pilots. 42pts

It's a fairly basic idea being that the Falcon tanks hits and repairs shields with R2 leaving the rookies fairly unscathed to dish out a fair amount of damage.

I understand it's possible to do the exact same things with Luke and another rookie pilot bringing the ship count to 4 but I was thinking that the Facons extra hit points, shield and damage could make up for this..

Anyway it would be interesting to hear what you guys think of this...

Cheers.

Be wary of twin laser turrets

I think we'd are going to see a lot of them

Sounds like you have a good X-Wing group in your area. I would give your list a try and you can see what works for you or not. It sounds like your current selection of ships is limited. Not sure if a tournament is the best place to fly out with a limited selection of ships. However, since it'll be in a couple weeks away you probably can try some things out and possibly borrow/buy more stuff.

In terms of your list. Off-hand, I wouldn't be using Han Solo as your meatshield for the X-Wings. Since he'll be your primary hitter; and shields/hull can go down fast with 1 Agility. You probably want to use the X-Wing to engage first to deal and soak up damage and keep Han Solo in a distance to do some damage. Though X-Wings are not as resilient as B-Wings and other stuff. Anywho, have fun and find folks who are good sports/willing to help out.

Way better squad than mine first one:D

But word of advice on falcon:

If you want R2D2 on falcon make chewie the pilot. That way you can ignore r2 drawback.

That also relates to draw their fire (that i would swap to something else anyway) but same here chewie can make that crit from DTF into normal hit.

Why get rid of DTF ? as hey_yu said those xes gonna drop anyway so no point in weakening han to keep em alive turn longer. Better take Predator on Han to make him hit even stronger.

That doesn't actually work.

Chewbacca flips incoming cards face-down.

R2D2 flips cards already on your hull face-up, and is one of only 3 ways to get face-up damage on Chewbacca (opposing Rexler Brath or opposing Saboteur are the others).

Ahhh crap. Your right. I was so used to fact that chewie laughs at all the crits that i missed a wording here.

Solid concept for your first full list. It flies completely different than the standard Han lists that are out there because you will want to keep the rookies close to Han. I also recommend putting the rookies out in front but figure out when you want to break off. If you lead with the rookies straight into the enemy you can follow behind with Han and then break off once you get into your first round of combat while your X-Wings prepare to K-Turn behind the enemy. I highly suggest you practice a few opening maneuver turns by yourself to get a feel for what types of maneuvers you can do with the spacing you have chosen. That way, you can make adjustments to learn your list a little better without actually playing someone else.

A tournament is actually the best place to learn how to fly your list and get better at the game. You will learn invaluable lessons in each game you play...and eventually you will be the one teaching those invaluable lessons to players after you. The only upgrade change I would suggest is swapping out Shield Upgrade with Engine Upgrade. You don't really need the shield upgrade to start when you are drawing fire, but you can use the engine after you break away from your X-Wings and dodge the arcs of lower Pilot Skill ships.
