Which Series do you like better, 'The Clone Wars' or 'Rebels'

By devotedknight, in X-Wing

I seen the complete 'The Clone Wars" even the 'Lost Tails'. I though the series was Awesome. For the series 'Rebels'. I've only seen the pilot, (Though I did win a free copy of the first season, which I will get on the September the first.)

So what series do you think is better?

Tough to say. Rebels is only on the 2nd season. At first I wasn't a fan of the animation of the Rebels, but it kinda grew on me.

Oooooh I like this question!

I like them both because Star Wars but I like them for different reasons as well.

The Clone Wars had a story way better than that of the prequel movies and fleshed out Anakin's character more. His descent to the Dark Side felt more natural once I'd seen the stuff he went through in the series, it felt more gradual than how immediate it was in the movies.

It spent more time dealing with the Clones which was great, because in the movies it felt like they might as well have been Super Battle Droids. In the Clone Wars they are so much more and it's wonderful.

The series introduces Ahsoka Tano who quickly grew to be one of my favorite characters.

Rebels brings me back to that Original Trilogy feel. It's the outlaw Rebels against the Tyrannical Empire once again. There's no Galactic war being fought, just a band of a few people trying to do right by their neighbors and stick it to the man.

I love the art direction taking queues from the McQuarrie art.

Then you need to read the novel "Dark Disciple" since it is what would have been part of season 7 of "The Clone Wars". Also in the novel "Tarkin" there is info that comes to light that was also supposed to originally be part of season 7 of "The Clone Wars"

Well since Rebels doesn't have Jar Jar Binks that makes it 1,000 times better than the best movie of the prequels.

Then again the Star Wars Holiday Special didn't have Jar Jar Binks and somehow that movie became 1,000,000 times worse than a movie made only out of Jar Jar Binks scenes.

Say what you want about Jar Jar but at least his character was meant to be an idiot.

Mace Windu on the other hand... that character should just not exist.

I just finished watching Rebels on youtube, and I gotta say most of TCW was better. It was *less* catered to children. Still definitely had it's moments, but I didn't always feel like I was watching a kid's show.

And I can't get past how tacky the lightsabers are in Rebels. That spinny thing, which, lets face it: you pretty much need to use both hands to not impale yourself with a double-blade. And then the blaster saber...

Sorry, but I like my sabers classic.
I like Chopper though. Snarky little droid.

While I understand Rebels being catered more to children, it honestly would feel no different than the OT if everything was live action. I don't need my Star Wars to be dark and gritty to be enjoyable.

In general I would have to say The Clone Wars, it fleshed out Anakin and Obi-wan a fair bit, did some real good stories featuring clones, showed Sidious when he is was in his prime fighting which was not very well shown in Episode 3, and was overall enjoyable minus the first season more or less. That said it also irritates me to no end that Lucas screwed with the droid naming system for the R series astromechs, it is something so small but it still is exceedingly frustrating.

But if season 2 of Rebels is anything like Siege of Lothal was like then I am really excited for this season! I like most of the cast even if they are somewhat bland, but they can be fleshed out. I kinda dislike how kinda corny or just odd some of the first season episodes are not to mention the fact that the Storm troopers took the same stupid pill that was given to the battle droids in The Clone Wars, I mean they made the droids so idiotic that they had to create new droids for the protagonists to take seriously. I hope we just have it where the Lothal regiment of stormies are the not give a care batch and we see more elite units or something to be used as a threat. So far the show has had only two threats so far Vader, and Tarkin not the Inquisitor minus like two episodes and Kallus tends to be in my mind the worst agent working for ISB.

Of course Rebels also made RX-24 part of actual canon so I can't be all that upset.

Gotta, say Rebels is supplying some cool stuff for X-Wing.

The fact that the rebels crew has 6 season of television making under their belts is very clearly visible.

I sort of like the more geometric style of the clone wars more than the more curvy look or rebels. I also miss the visible brushstrokes so prominent in the clone wars that's largely absent from rebels.

The clone wars is more conductive to viewing in short bursts because of the multiple arcs that jump around, but rebels is better for binge watching thanks to a continuous plot and focus cast.

Both shows did/have done a respectable job or rounding out their stars.

I think Hera is my favorite character in Rebels so far. Her Piloting skills are off the hook for a freighter of that size.

Rewatch Clone Wars. Do it right.

I am actually in the middle of that right now

I own the complete series! :D I love it!

Clone Wars has some pretty annoying stuff.

Rebels stars Disney's Alladin.

Netflix does too!

Aladdin*

Rebels stars a group of people playing Edge of the Empire.

Tcw was terrible most of the time but had a few good story arcs.

Rebels seems more like stereotypical disney, attempting to be star wars. I think TCW was created to be a part of Star Wars, by its own means. What I saw of rebels, which wasn't a whole lot.. didn't strike me as being as good as it could have.

I think it's too soon to say. If I compare the last 3 seasons of Clone Wars to season 1 of Rebels, then Clone Wars wins, but I don't think that's really fair. It took Clone Wars a season or two to get really good, and considering it's many of the same people making Rebels, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it'll take a bit of time to hit their stride. I prefer the theme of Rebels though, so I think it has a lot of potential, and the last few episodes of season 1 and the beginning of season 2 are a definite improvement.

Honestly I can't see trying to say which is better when one ran 6 seasons and one is just about to start it's second. Dave Filoni was one of the main creators of "The Clone Wars" and is currently doing "Rebels". While I will say that "The Clone Wars" was an amazing show that bridged a lot of stories, filled gaps, and gave character to the cookie cutter clones we see in the movies "Rebels" will do it's share. To be honest "Rebels" is just the continuation of the Star Wars animated story line. If you have watched the trailer for season 2 you know some of the characters that will be showing up in that season. I know a lot about what to expect in season 2 of "Rebels" and I can't wait. There are little things that will be in season 2 that only diehard "The Clone Wars" fans will get. Bottom line is that Disney has done an amazing job between movies, animated, novelization, and comic formats to make a canon story line with as few issues as possible. These 2 series are just parts of a greater puzzle. You really can't say one of these are better than the other without watching and reading all the current canon material. Because there are things in the other formats that tell more about these series than you would know just watching them.

"A New Dawn"

"Tarkin"

"Dark Disciple"

Read all 3 and you'll find that there is a lot that ties both series into what is basically 1 animated series with a movie that fell between them.

I had to retype this a few times, more than once it turned into a wall of text. Basically my thoughts boil down to this:

TCW has better animation, and overall has a more adult theme.

Rebels is set in the time period I most care about, and I'm already much more invested in the characters than I was at the same point with TCW.

Right now it's pretty even. If Rebels keeps bring their A game, it won't be for long. YMMV

I haven't watched rebels yet (hoping to soon), but I do love the clone wars, and own the entire series on blu-ray.

From what I've seen of rebels, I don't think I will like it quite as much for a few reasons

1) Cheaper animation budget (clone wars actually lost money I believe, but that's how lucas rolled, he wanted quality over profits)

2) Less epic, as at least in season one it's mostly all on one planet I hear, and you're always focusing on the core group who's basically together I believe.

3) A bit more "kiddie" from what I hear as well, although clone wars could certainly be at times too.

Someone's been watching Red Letter Media have they? Well it would have been better if they picked a different actor, maybe Morgan Freeman to focus on the whole wise jedi which isn't all members of the Jedi council are supposed to be. I mean we all knew he would die but I will admit never has a main supposed to be bad-ass character went out like a chump since Star Trek Generations. ;)

It does what Disney can do. It is heavily censored while it does show deaths these are all cut out to the starfighter scene which you can't see the pilot who obviously dies, well dies. It is much like Dragon Ball Kai where it censors and cuts out din-dins death scenes. I would say Rebels is probably the most violent Disney cartoon since Gargoyles.
