Rexlar Brath: PTL or Predator?

By Sabre 7, in X-Wing

Like the title says, which EPT do people think is best for Rexlar Brath? Predator seemed to be the previous go-to EPT, but with the release of the MK II engine, I think PTL is now a viable option. Here are the pros for both:

PTL pros

- TL is usually better than a predator re-roll

- PTL allows for BR as second action

- TL synergies with Vessery if that's your thing

Predator pros

- Predator doesn't cause stress, which opens up 1 & 2 hard turns during the next turn

- Predator can be used even while stressed

Thoughts?

Now the mk.ii is out go PTL he has the greens to make it work, with a reroll your usually able to keep the focus to use on his ability.

He's so effective you can forgo the hlc which previously was a must have, still great if you have the points though.

For me? PTL. Overwhelmingly PTL.

As always though, depends on flight style.

Predator

  • Mini target lock.
  • No stress.
  • No focus if you barrel roll.
  • Mod slot is free for Engine or Hull/Shield if you want it.

PTL + TIE Mark II

  • Real target lock, which means more dice rerolled and combos with Vessery and firing ordnance.
  • Target lock isn't compulsory: can barrel roll and Focus. Can have all three if target lock wasn't spent last round.

It's worth remembering that stress doesn't prevent K-turns in a TIE defender.

If you can fly it right, Lone Wolf. It also helps on his defense rolls.

Lone Wolf, stricly speaking

With the Mk II, PtL can be a better choice than Predator if you have a squad to fill the remaining <55 points that doesn't render the option mute

Even with Lone Wolf's defence buff I'd still lean to PTL/TIE Upgrade for the sheer offensive power, which Rexler needs.

Lone wolf only let's you reroll blanks tho, and as you want to save your focus token lone wolf isn't great synergy

Of the two in the OP,Predator every day of the week. The white K is this great brute force move that let's you take control of opposing ships in a really great way. With Predator, you have essentially 1.5 actions to 0 actions on the opposition. With PTL you're frequently carrying a stress, so when you K-turn, you're at zero actions. Bumps, stress, obstacles, Predator keeps working, PTL stops working.

HLC or not?

Mk II or not?

If I had an HLC, then the predator reroll is weaker, and I would want PtL so I can TL+F. But if I take PtL, I want Mk II.

So for souped up Rexler, PtL+HLC+MkII.

For bare bones Rexler, Predator.

If you can fly it, Lone Wolf.

I'd rather not pump 48 points into a Defender, so I'd go with one of the latter 2. Of course, I'd mostly just fly Vessery because he has the better of it ability-wise and for less points, and none of these shenanigans are necessary to make it work.

Neither.

The correct answer is Fleet Officer.

Pfft take a mini swarm to block and generally make a nuisance of themselves and Rexler will methodically rip anything apart.

Before you'd rarely use his ability needing that focus to max the number of hits but now you can haz cake and eat it.

You don't have to PTL every turn if you know your k turning then don't stress yourself.

If you're not using PTL every turn, then Predator ends up being way better.

Knowing when not to PTL is actually important with fel aswell, the situations are limited but taking two actions and stressing yourself can be a fatal mistake with several ships.

I've played PTL Rexler extensively since the engine mod was revealed and he's never let me down or made me regret swapping over from predator.

For all intensive purposes, the bonus Lone Wolf gives to defense is a nice French benefit.

What's a French benefit?
