Dead mans switch and houndstooth

By Bloodstripe Baron, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Im thinking of this combo but wanted to work out the rule question I had before I took it out anywhere.

Houndstooth triggers on "after you are destroyed..."

Dead mans switch triggers on "when you are destroyed..."

So to verify I'm interpreting his right,

Houndstooth is attacked and now has more damage cards then its hull. Everyone at range 1 receives one damage. Then Natasha's pup is deployed. Then the yv is removed from play.

I just want to verify that when the pup is deployed it doesn't need to clear the range 1 bubble.

Thanks!

Seems valid enough. 'When you are destroyed' must come before 'After you are destroyed'.

I've always played it as the Pup does need to clear it because it made more thematic sense, but there's a good argument for this way around too.

No, it's more down to the timing. As StephenEsven said, 'When' must come before 'After'.

Plus, cinematically, how cool would that look? The Hound's Tooth gets hit and explodes, with debris hitting ships that are too close, and then the Pup comes rocketing out of the explosion! Awesome.

Or it comes down to, the active player chooses when simultaneous triggers happen. Meaning you choose.

When and After aren't simultaneous though.

Ordinarily this wouldn't be an issue, but the Hound's Tooth and the Nashtah Pup generate certain timing requirements. So "when" you are destroyed is definitely going to trigger before an event that happens "after" you are destroyed. Dead Man's Switch goes bang when the Tooth is destroyed, then the Pup arrives after the explosion. It's the only logical way to resolve it. Both game wise and grammatically.

When comes before after!

Which makes setting the dial easier. You don't need to make sure you're maneuver clears range 1.
