Questions about huge ships

By Hockeyzombie, in X-Wing Rules Questions

First, does a secondary weapon store the energy on it separately from the ship? For example, can I have a quad turbolaser holding two energy while the ship is holding onto it's own maximum energy capacity?

Second, does the energy on a secondary weapon stay if I don't end up spending all that energy?

Third, do upgrades that say "at range X of this ship" go from the section they're on or from any part of the ship? I assume it's both sections but I'm planning some evil with Mara Jade and it's only funny if I'm right.

Fourth, if I drop a seismic charge or other bomb so that it's at range 1 of both sections, does each section take the damage or does somebody choose one?

Some of these I'm pretty sure I know but I like to be certain, and hearing people explain why will help me sort out any issues that may come up in future games. Thanks in advance.

1: yes

2: yes

3: any part

4: somebody chooses. I think it's the bomb's owner, but I'm less sure about that part.

If an effect would damage both sections of a huge ship, the opposing player chooses one section, and the chosen section suffers the damage.

If a huge ship suffers damage from a source that does not explicitly affect a single section, the opposing player chooses which section suffers the damage. Crippled sections cannot be chosen.

Oh man Mara Jade and Ionization Reactor seem like a less than gentlemanly thing to do.

On a related note, I have the beginnings of my next epic list!

Thanks again.

Be aware that Ionization Reactor is one card (in fact I think it's the only card) that would not start with full energy as it's not a secondary weapon

Save making another post for a huge ship question, do huge ships fire normally during combat at their pilot skill level? Or do they shoot last much like they activate last?

"First, does a secondary weapon store the energy on it separately from the ship? For example, can I have a quad turbolaser holding two energy while the ship is holding onto it's own maximum energy capacity?"

Yes, if it has an energy capacity on its card that capacity is independent from the Aft Section's. However, as far as I know, if you have 6 energy and gain 3, you can't "overflow" it onto the other hardpoints. You gain energy, discard down to the limit if you hit it, then assign it to hardpoints if you so desire.

"Second, does the energy on a secondary weapon stay if I don't end up spending all that energy?"

Yes, it doesn't disappear until you spend it, unless you get a Grid Overload.

"Third, do upgrades that say "at range X of this ship" go from the section they're on or from any part of the ship? I assume it's both sections but I'm planning some evil with Mara Jade and it's only funny if I'm right."

Entire ship. Coordinate and Target Lock also use the whole ship.

Pilot Skill level.
