Just have to ask, because I don't have a rule book here at home and I am afraid I am mixing up with x-wing... When using shields to cancel hits, do crits go to shields first? Is it the defenders choice? I can't remember:(
Regular or critical hits first?
Its neither. You apply damage to the shields first in tell the shields reach zero. Then if there is any damage remaining, and there was at least one critical rolled, the first damage card is dealt face up.
Ahh right, okay, treated differently than x wing. So basically if you run out of shields the crit comes in "first."

So the dice you rolled in the attack pool stay there until they either get spent or removed through an Evade token.
After the defense tokens are spent, if you have any critical icons left in your dice, you can activate one (and only 1) critical effect.
The standard critical effect modifies what happens when you deal damage so as long as you activated that critical effect, the first damage card dealt is dealt face up
Thats the basics. You can resolve one critical effect. Then you get into upgrade card effects, like assault concussion missiles for example. You would resolve the cards damage effect before applying the regular damage. Example, lets say you do 5 damage and 3 critical were rolled. When you get to the apply damage step. You would resolve the assault concussion missiles first. Now damage is applied to the shields. And after they reach zero you apply to the hole. Because you already used your critical effect on the ACMs, all the remaining damage is dealt face down.

Follow the steps of the attack sequence.
That should clear it up.
Just one quick thing I can't seem to find a answer. Are CRT and they effects different from hull damage???

Forget the xwing rules. For ships attacking ships, each crit or hit icon count as 1 damage. A crit effect is resolved separately from this.

Thank you sort clearing that up for me, So even if that hull zone had shields left it still get a CRT???
Been a 40k player for 20 years
If you follow the attack sequence in order (via the link posted) you will see how as the attack resolves and everything should click into place.
Got it thanks
Groovy.
I think the best way to grok Armada's critical system is to divorce the various effects they produce from the dice and when you realise there are plenty of critical effects that do NASTY things to ships irregardless of shields.
