[PbP] Shadows of the Future IC

By awayputurwpn, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Feeling more than a little woozy, Jonas takes a few moments to steady himself before making sure all his belongings are still on him and in working order. Considering what his possessions consist of, it does not take him too much time.

"That went rather well," he notes as he unstraps himself and moves to exit the wrecked ship. The smoke is certainly unpleasant, but coughing a little to clear his lungs seems to help, at least momentarily. "Please tell me we remembered...," he starts before pausing and clearing his throat. "Well, I did not, but did someone remember to grab some sort of crash kit?"

Once out of the ship, the first thing he does is take a deep breath. It is indeed a welcome change from the air inside the ship, especially once some of it had been replaced by smoke and fumes. "Seems like a nice place," he quips as he looks around. As he relaxes a little -they are alive and relatively unharmed, after all- he tries to bring to mind what, if anything, he knows of Tython, not so much of the planet but of the Order's history on it. 'I must have had a lesson about it at some point,' he ponders. 'Not that Master Vorn was big on history lessons...'

By all means, Korro, flip that Destiny Point. That is what they are there for after all, right? ;) Besides, you have taken a bit of strain damage already, no need to add more to it.

Okay, I have to use the characteristic of one party with the skill of the other, so I'll use Firan's Presence of two with my Leadership of 1.

Assisted Leadership: 2eA+1eP+1eB+1eS 4 successes, 2 advantage

I'll recover two Strain with the advantage.

Maya and Kovin skirt the lake, moving quickly around towards the downed ship. Kovin leans on his staff for support, while Maya follows cautiously behind him. They approach the wreck together. It's an imposing sight for Kovin - he's grown up in nature, and not seen anything artificial since the crash that brought him here five years ago. As a result, he's a little unnerved. He's also having to contain his anger over the sight of the devastation wrought by the ship when it crashed. Thus, he's quite surprised when he hears a tapping coming from the hull.

Wait--all checks, if not otherwise stated, have a default difficulty of two Difficulty dice, correct?

Only one Strain, then.

Jonas knew little of Tython, owing what knowledge he had to what he had seen in the archives...he now wished that he'd paid a little more attention to those sporadic lessons!

Tython was the home ancient Jedi, but they had abandoned it thousands of years ago. He was pretty sure that the last known forray onto Tython by the Jedi was a good 300 years ago, when a group of Jedi Knights cleansed the planet...somehow.

The details were a little iffy.

Kovin circles the ship, looking for a way in. One door is jammed under the earth furrow raised in the crash; the other is raised some way off the ground. However it is low enough that he can reach up and begin tugging on it to open it.

Would trying to open the door be an Athletics or Mechanics check? And can anyone inside hear enough to know to go and help?

Looking around through the smoke that was filling up the cabin, he calls out, "Anybody still in here? We've got to get moving!" Smoke plumes out into the open as he lifts up the emergency exit hatch.

Ret-con: Firan and Xan helped the others out of the wreckage, utilizing great teamwork and giving everyone a breather.

Xan's Leadership check removes the "disoriented" status that the PCs have been suffering.

Kovin looks up. Silhouetted by the sun is a group of figures, struggling out of the roof of the ship. He supposes there must be an escape hatch. The sun shining behind them means that they are indistinct. He squints up at them, hoping to make out who they are...

What's the status of everyone? It looks like everyone's free. Is that correct?

Okay, so let's do a bit of a scene setting! The IC thread is getting blown up by three completely separate timelines.

I understand Seifer was very eager to get that mod installed. So I let the check play.

However, I mentioned that everyone gets a skill check...and Xan wanted to get everyone off the ship. I wanted to allow the check there too, so timeline-wise, he and Firan made the extra effort to get everyone off the ship first, and then Seifer's checking on his lightsaber and Jonas' knowledge check are happening.

This is all happening while Kovin and Maya are still a ways off. Let's call it long range. So Kovin's actions need to be backed up a little.

I really do appreciate the eagerness and activity guys (honestly and sincerely). It's just getting a little messy.

After escaping from the burning wreckage, Firan, Xan, Jonas, and Seifer stumbled away as best they could. Seifer pulled his lightsaber, checking it for functionality. Jonas had a puzzled look on his face, looking as if he was trying to remember something as Xan patted down his smoldering clothes.

From a distance, Kovin and Maya could see the ship and trees on fire, and they noticed that four figures had emerged. They all seemed to be okay.

At this point, I'd like some Simple (-) Vigilance checks from everyone please! These are initiative checks.

Kovin shakes his head, clearing it of confusion. He's unsure of why he experienced the strange flash-forward, and is back on the edge of the lake.

Jonas sighs softly. Truth be told, he could have paid a bit more attention during those lessons. He does comfort himself a little though by reasoning that even if he had, it would probably not have amounted to much two decades later. "At least the planet was cleansed, I suppose," he mutters softly to himself. "Would be nice to be able to remember of what though."

Turning to his three companions, he smiles. "So, is crashing on strange planets par for the course when one is a member of the Resistance? Being new to all this, I thought I should ask just so that I am a little more prepared for it the next time it happens."

Initiative - Vigilance: 1eB+1eP+2eA 1 success, 3 advantage

"Well, we are all in one piece... more or less." Seifer drawled. "We best be alert, the presence of Sith fighters in orbit is troubling and there could be more Sith present"

Maya stopped in her tracks. She felt a surge of cold exhilaration. "Something's coming."

Initiative (Vigilance) Check: 2eP+1eA+2eB+3eF 3 successes, 3 Light Side, 1 Dark Side

The primal urge she had never understood began to guide her. She felt cold, but alive. The urge to protect Kovin began to consume her. She channeled her feelings to protect her friend and focused it. Allowing it and the Force to guide her.

As a darkside Force user - as Awayputurwpn and I discussed - I spend my single Dark pip and convert it to an extra success. Bringing my total to 4. All those dice. All those blanks  .

Eating Conflict already! Sure you don't wanna spend one of your several Destiny Points, ensure a good first turn?

Hmmmmm sounds like a good idea.... wait a sec....

I'll take my chances with the Conflict. Part of her character is struggling with redemption. We need a clear base to start off with. I'll note the one conflict.

Xan breathes a sigh of relief. I suppose that could have been much worse, he thought. Securing the survival kit he salvaged, he feels a slight ripple in the Force...

Initiative: 4eA 2 successes, 4 advantage

"What's the deal with this planet anyway?" Firan asks, failing to comprehend why both the Jedi and the Sith would place so much significance on a world that, to him up until a very short while ago, and to the galaxy and large, was completely unknown. The planet sure was a pain to get to, completely isolated and on very few starmaps.

Climbing down from the ship Firan's boots make a soft squishing noise as they plod into the moist ground. Mist collects on the visor of his helmet as he looks around trying to take in the sights of the world, hopefully to get a slightly better understanding of it, as of now it just looks like any other primitive planet.

initiative: 1eA+1eP 2 successes, 1 advantage
a-s.pngp-s-a.png

So the initiative order is:

Maya

Xan

Kovin

Firan/Seifer

Jonas

Suddenly a scream pierces the night air, and a dozen burly aliens rush down the slopes from either side of the clearing where the ship crashed. They are wielding hunting spears lofted high in attack position!

The aliens start at short range from the main party, and at long rang from Kovin & Maya. They are split: 6 total on one side of the four heroes, and 6 more on the other side, in a flanking position. They are on slightly higher elevation, rushing towards the group of four, and unaware of the presence of the other 2 heroes.

The initiative order:

I'll be spending a Dark Side Destiny Point to upgrade the difficulty of the first PC action.

Incidental: "Get behind me!" Kovin tells Maya, as he lifts his stave, spins it with a flourish and places himself in a ready position. "We should wait and see what happens. Neither of us is exactly ready for a fight."

Looks like Kovin is not taking the first turn, so it's all up for grabs.
