[PbP] Shadows of the Future IC
So shall we get this show on the road?
"Thanks, Seifer," Korro said, flexing his shoulder slowly to note the increased range of motion the Guardian had provided him with his skilled medical training.
"Let's move, " he said, nodding to the others. "I wish to see what the temple holds for us."
"Agreed. We're not getting anything done just sitting around!" Kovin sets off briskly towards the temple site.
What's being done with the 5 threat?
It was a good start, and the cool moist air began to burn off as the sun rose over the forest. The song birds were still singing their pleasant tunes as the group entered the forest.
The wood was relatively sparse, and right away they noticed that the moisture in the air was significantly lower here than outside the forest. But Kovin had seen this kind of thing before on Tython, and knew where to find water: there was a prolific type of tree here in the forest that absorbed water from the air and stored it in sacs that hung from its trunk and branches. It also had the benefit of filtering the water so it was safe for consumption. The group filled what canteens they had and plodded on, easily finding the sustenance they needed to make good time through the forest.

Kovin awoke with a start, to realize that it was now early evening and that he had been napping against a tree trunk! The others were nowhere to be seen. His heart began to race as he looked wildly around the unpopulated woods.
Then he noticed the birds of prey overhead, circling around him. One suddenly dove in to strike at the Togruta with its razor-sharp beak...
At this point, we are entering structured play. The order is thus:

Everyone else is currently experiencing something very similar to Kovin. The other PCs are nowhere to be seen, and hours have passed without your realization. There are around a dozen birds of prey attacking each of you (you don't have all your wits about you quite yet, so you haven't got an exact head count). What do you do?
Consider the birds to be "engaged" with you for all intents and purposes. They are diving, clawing, and generally trying to tear you to ribbons.
Oh kark oh kark oh kark!" Kovin yells, leaping to his feet and twirling his staff above him to ward off the creatures. "Not good! Not good at all," he pauses, considering his options. He needs help, but more than that, he needs to protect Maya. Reaching out through the Force, he tries to seek her out.
Seek roll: 2eF 2 Light Side, 1 Dark Side

Can I find Maya, or am I all alone?
Maya is at extreme range from you.
Maya was several hundred meters away from Kovin, through the forest. He wasn't terribly sure of her condition, but at least she was alive!
Having stood up, Kovin races off through the trees to find Maya, Zelt instinctively following at his heels. He ignores the creatures, hoping they won't follow but knowing they will. Still, there's always strength in numbers, and he needs to get to Maya. For her sake.
Taking a second maneuver to head off in Maya's direction. That puts me halfway through Extreme range right?
Edited by ColonelCommissarThe predatory avians did indeed pursue Kovin, shrieking from their hooked beaks as if calling for the hunt.
Next PC please!
Xan ignites his lightsaber with a snap-hiss and assumes a defensive posture, hoping to scare the creatures away.
Odd that he had not witnessed these creatures before during his trek on the planet...
I use my maneuver to draw my lightsaber, and trade my action for a second one, Guarded Stance.
Edited by Korro ZalSypher, sensing danger quickly readies himself.
Maneuver to draw my lightsaber and action to activate Sense for defense.
Certainly surprised by the fact that he seems to have gotten himself separated from the rest of the group, and quite inexplicably so, Jonas draws and ignites his lightsaber. His eyes as much on the flying creatures as on his surroundings, he prepares himself for the fight to come by opening himself to the Force to heighten his senses and reflexes.
Maneuver to draw and ignite lightsaber and Action to active the Sense (Control - Upgrade Difficulty) Force power.
I believe we have one more PC slot before the NPCs go. I'll step in.
The sounds of song birds was surprisingly soothing for the confused Togruta. But something seemed out of place. She sensed frantic movement around her. When she opened her eyes and noticed a swarm of avians. They appeared to be aggressive. Maya leaped back.
"Kovin!"
Without further hesitation, she reached into the Force as a wave of fear began to consume her. Good. She was going to need that fear to survive this fight.
Bind: 3eF 4 Dark Side

With but a thought, the creature in front of her snapped at an odd angle as Maya willed it to stay still. She could sense the creatures pain and they squealed just like the rats in her cell. She felt a guilty sense of pleasure from it all.
Maneuver to disengage. Action to activate Bind. I spend 1 pip to activate the power, immobilizing it until the end of my next turn. 1 pip to inflict 3 strain (ignore soak) to it. and 2 pips to disorient it for 2 rounds. Since I spent 4 darkside pips, I will also deal 4 wounds (ignore soak) and gain 4 conflict.
Edited by kaosoeThe savage, hook-beaked raptors all faltered as Maya controlled their flight patterns. It was easy, making them slam into each other, impaling one on another's sharp beak, and using the Force snap one's neck. It was easy, so easy...
Jonas, in another part of the forest, defended well against the sudden attackers, losing some momentum due to their sheer numbers but holding his own.
Seifer had to mount a more strenuous response to his attackers, due to an unusual positioning where he was at. The terrain around here was incredibly unsuitable for a defense against airborne aggressors.
Attacking Seifer: 1eP+4eA+1eC+1eD+2eS 3 successes, 2 advantage

Seifer will take 6 damage, Pierce 1. Assuming you will be Parrying...
Also, your attackers will gain one Boost die on their next attack.
Kovin takes 9 damage, Pierce 1 (ouch). Also, you are at Long range from Maya now. I just realized you used a maneuver to move AND a maneuver to "stand up," which you shouldn't have had to do. The bit about lying against the tree trunk was more narrative than anything, not intended to affect the mechanics in this instance.
Firan was completely unprepared for the assault, and in fact the attacking raptors woke him up. But the birds could do little to pierce through the Mandalorian's armor, and instead just jostled him around a bit as they tried to find weak points of attack.

Probably but that should be two challenge dice since I got both of the next sense upgrades, right?
Edited by Silver CraneYes, I will parry.
I'll Parry, so I should avoid any wounds as well. That will put me at 3 strain.
Edited by Silver CraneHow do you have so little strain left? Didn't we regain all lost points when we rested in the grove?

He's likely counting up.
The wording within the rule books assume you count up, rather than subtract down.
