[PbP] Shadows of the Future IC

"Was that some weird force thing?" the warrior grunts, adjusting the scope on his helmet, "Because you all know how I feel about weird force things."

"Yes, that was a 'weird' Force thing," Xan replies, "though we seem to have proven the stronger."

Seifer shook his head as if he could simply shake off the effect the shades had on him and deactivated his lightsaber, but stopped short of returning it to it' place on his belt.

Can I make a check to recover some strain?

"Proven the stronger, have we?" Jonas repeats Xan's words, a hint of doubt as well as curiosity coloring his words.

"But how? What did we do?"

Seifer shook his head as if he could simply shake off the effect the shades had on him and deactivated his lightsaber, but stopped short of returning it to it' place on his belt.

In a bit, we'll do a reset and you can get rid of all of it.

After the unsettling events with the shades, the only thing left was to press on into the darkness. The heroes were battered and weary, and had who-knows-how-much sand in their undergarments, but the sooner they found these allies that the Jedi Council had promised, the sooner they could get off this world. Assuming, of course, these allies had a starship...

At this point, I would like a single skill check, each, from everyone to end the "current" session. What part would you like to play in finding these valuable allies the Jedi spoke of?

I'd like to go with a Knowledge: Lore check to see what I can find in the temple that would be of use the remaining Jedi or if I can find any hints about the "allies".

I'd like to go with a Knowledge: Lore check...

Okay! Average (2eD+1eS) please, with 1 setback.

I think I will have Jonas will go with a Perception check to try and notice anything like a clue or a path or anything of interest really. I am assuming that it is an Average check with 3 Setbacks? So, if Jonas uses a glowrod and his Sense Danger talent it should negate all of them, correct?

When the Shadows dissappeared, Maya was on edge. She knew the methods of these shades well, and the Dark Side does not relenquish its prey so easily.

So is this supposed to be some rendezvous for Jedi or something.

Maya held her fusion lantern aloft and began to search around for clues on where to go next.

Going to use the fusion lantern to remove 2 setback dice, and my one rank of Keen Eyed to remove the third.

Perception Check: 1eA+2eP+2eD 4 successes, 2 threat

Switching his glow rod on to chase some of the darkness and shadows away, Jonas lets his connection to the Force do the rest as he starts moving about, joining Maya in her search for clues.

Using Perception. Relevant items and abilities and such are the glow rod as well as the Sense Danger and Uncanny Senses 1 talents.

May I make a Discipline test to center myself in the hopes that doing so successfully will grant me the clarity and peace of mind to grasp what must be done from this point onwards?

May I make a Discipline test to center myself in the hopes that doing so successfully will grant me the clarity and peace of mind to grasp what must be done from this point onwards?

You can consider yourself centered (feel free to narrate as such).

What part, if any, would you like to play in finding these allies?

My talents involve diplomacy, telekinesis and lightsaber combat, so I don't have any capacity for sensing these allies. I guess I'll assist with someone else's check.

Flicking a switch on his helmet's scope, Firan engages his electrobinoculars, some of the darkness clouding his vision now peeled away. Pressing a few buttons into the terminal on his wrist, his jetpack begins warming up.

"It looks like this place goes on for quite a ways, I'm gonna see if I can cover some of the distance, figure out what's ahead."

Flying at speed 2, one setback removed by his electrobinoculars

And with a swift motion, he is off. Flying high above the floor, he swoops in the caverns, the adrenaline pumping through his blood pushing him harder. He slides the speed controls to their max as he jets around a tight turn. Much tighter than he estimated, as sparks fly off his metal armor as they scrape against the dark, hard, stone wall.

"Proven the stronger, have we?" Jonas repeats Xan's words, a hint of doubt as well as curiosity coloring his words.

"But how? What did we do?"

"The Dark Side challenged us here, looking for a weak point, a flaw within one of us it could exploit. We all possess such flaws, which is why we must always be vigilant. It did not succeed...this time."

And you came closer to failing that test than anyone else here, a voice in his head told him. Is what you said what you truly believe, or just wishful thinking on your part?

I will not fail, he told himself.

Your master didn't think so. In fact, he gave up on you.

We don't know that. Sith lie.

Did she, now?

Xan closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, too off-balance to know what to do next. Do what you do best, a calm voice within him said, lead the others...if nothing else, doing what you were trained to do will center yourself.

"All right," he said, "it seems we have a plan. Firan will scout ahead, and those of you who are so sensitive use your talents to see what you can learn. For those such as myself who are not so talented, we'll just have to rely on more mundane means."

Leadership: 2eA+1eP+2eD 1 success, 1 threat

The group advanced farther into the sunken structure, with Firan clearing the way and Xan giving direction, to the best of their abilities. Using their lights and their wits, they began searching earnestly for clues and possible directions, trusting in the wisdom of the Jedi Council and their knowledge of the Force.

At this point, go ahead and heal all your strain, roll away your Conflict (1d10), and take 20 XP. After spending your XP and updating your character sheet, please roll up a new Destiny Point point pool (1eF each).

For the cumulative 2 Threat, Firan takes two wounds (bypassing Soak) as he is momentarily buffeted by the unforgiving stone walls. Thankfully, his equipment is none worse for the wear.

We will discuss the effects of the cumulative 11 Success in the next "session." Good job everyone!

It was Maya's quick eyes, and Seifer's knowledge of ancient languages, that turned them all onto the right trail. Maya was running her lantern down a row of exceptionally well-preserved engravings, when Seifer asked her to hold her light over a particular piece of letterings. It was similar enough to an ancient variant of Galactic Basic that he was able to get the jist of the meaning: "The Room of Allies is found on the fifth level down, in the east wing." The crew were indeed looking for allies...perhaps this was something to which the Jedi Council's vision was referring. There was a brief argument over the cryptic meaning, but Xan Yarr cut through the noise in a firm and decisive manner. This was their one lead, and they could waste hours upon hours searching every inch of this place in vain.

With Firan clearing the way, and Jonas bringing up the rear, the group found a usable flight of stairs and descended several levels through the massive temple complex. The only complications were not life-threatening—blocked passageways, holes in the floors—it felt like the eerie encounter with the dark-side "shades" had been ages ago.

--

After a couple hours of hiking, climbing, and re-routing through disused passages of the fifth level, a "ping" lit up the group's comlinks. Xan and Jonas took a look at the datapad, and sure enough, there was a distress beacon broadcasting, dead ahead. The stone in this temple must have been so massive that it had blocked the signal.

Presently, the heroes arrived at a cavern. At the opposite end of the cavern sat a huge pair of onyx-black doors, inlaid and outlined with some kind of wrought metal. However, upon approach, it appeared that the metal between the two doors had been welded together, sealing the doors closed.

The distress signal was coming from behind the doors.

You mean the signal is coming from in there? She spread her light over the large doors. This thing looks like it has been sealed for ages. Whoever is in there must be ancient.

She swallowed hard, a half-remembered lesson bubbled to the surface of her thoughts. Or.. she said quietly. has been preserved. My master has heard rumors of the Sith using such powers.

While Maya ponders the significance of the sealed chamber in front of them, Jonas approaches it, running a hand over the metal.

"Perhaps we could use our lightsabers to cut our way through?"

"What about grenades?" the warrior asks with a shrug, examining the obstruction with curiosity. "We could blow it open. Chance of a cave-in though."
