Dac, the Mon Calamari Homeworld, has declared its independence from the Empire.
As the Mon Calamari and the Quarren deliberate on allying themselves with the Rebel Alliance, the Empire is attempting to return the Calamari Sector back to Imperial Control.
The Rebel Alliance, in order to prove itself to the Mon Calamari and gain the use of their vast shipyards attempts to halt the Imperial approach.

What this is:
The Armada Admirals of Portland present our local version of the Massing at Sullust campaign. This represents narrative stakes* for our local games and tournaments.
On this page you can see the campaign map and read the orders from both the Imperial and the Rebel side.
How you can contribute:
While this is intended for the Portland Armada Admirals community, if you want to send me (by PM) reports of your battles I'll be happy to write those into the story and report on them in the news accordingly.
*by narrative, I mean that there are no alterations to any of the standard rules for gameplay or tournaments. It's just a storyline surrounding our games.
OoOoo, I love the usual HNN and AFN updates, so I'm excited to see where this goes.
I'd bloody well love to participate and contribute something, but lo' and friggin' behold it doesn't look like I'll get to. Long story short, as of just yesterday my own little group's supposedly on hiatus until October. On the plus side, you awesome Portland lot are champions of the cause when it comes to getting people like me through the Armada doldrums. So I commend your spirit, dedication, and that of the cause!
Lets see: that yellow can be hard on the eyes in this bright grey background style I've got going on, Bothan commanders are cool, the map looks great, I'm sliiightly grumpy, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the narrative unfolds. All in all, this looks like it'll be fantastic ![]()

That sounds most tragic. Do you live in a part of the galaxy where there are no other sentient beings in the area with whom you can play?

Oh, the yellow on this FFG background? Hm, I imagine it's harder for those people who let the forum update itself to the white background.
It's good on the website and on HNN though, right? (I have no control over AFN - and if I did, all those responsible would be slaving away in the spice mines of Kessel.)
I've got one or two things in common with Luke, probably the most notable is living out on an irrelevant rock in the middle of nowhere on what amounts to a vapour farm (I'm making plans to get to a Massing event, it'll be about a 450 mile round trip). Not that I'm a separatist or anything... no, I'm not implying anything of the sort. Definitely not. We'll see if the possibility of a September 4th announcement can make a few more admirals break ranks and defy the cease-fire orders.
Yep, it's just the forum update's default grey colour scheme. I wouldn't worry about it. I just highlighted the text and -the Emperor provides- it shows up perfectly fine. I think it's likely just newer registered sorts like me as I checked it out on the dark scheme and it's well and good. Presentation on HNN is immaculate, as ever. 'Tis fit for the galactic presses and consumption by the loyal citizens of the Empire. Naturally you don't control the warlord's black holonet web, I wouldn't even know where to find it. Nope, not a single idea where it could be.
... I swear I'm not a separatist: I just think Bothans can potentially be citizens as well. If trained. And watched.

Driving 450 miles just to attend a Sullust event. Wow, you really are from Tatooine. That explains a lot.
For example, your indulgent attitude towards Bothans. Look, enfranchisement of aliens as citizens was tried. The mismanagement of the Republic because of alien influences and Jedi manipulation nearly caused the end of galactic civilization. The evidence speaks for itself, and we really shouldn't try to go back with so much at stake. Aliens are just better considered subjects who are taken care of for their own good.
Aye, I do wish there was a little better established community here. Armada groups are pretty rare when the closest large scale settlement is still more than an hour away, and groups willing to deal with narrative gaming are even more elusive. (I always figured that it was a fear of scrutiny and judgement. That or it's like reliving high school Language Arts class all over again). And that's why I'll be following this at the very least ![]()
Hmm, Tatooine... it's a little closer to Hoth for most of the year. Bearing in mind that I've never been to Hoth and have no affiliation with any who may or may not reside there. I mean, just because some of my best friends are Bothans doesn't make me sympathetic to the alien supremacy cause. I'm just saying that they may yet prove to be worthwhile citizens after a period of behavioural correction. It's like they say: spare the rod, spoil the soldier. They simply need more active forms of proper Imperial involvement. Just because the earlier attempts failed under the weak, corrupt and incompetent reign of the rotting kleptocratic regime masquerading as a 'Republic', doesn't necessarily prove that there aren't potential exceptions to our observations. All it shows is that handing out 'rights' is no way to form a responsible and ethical culture.
But, perhaps I'm wrong and they are beyond hope. The Mon Calimari might be a good counterpoint to what I said... but Benn Gleck was right: Dac was always something of a cesspit hiding behind a few pleasant ocean vistas.
Post Scriptum: Just as a bit of a public service clarification request, is there any particular format you'd like any submitted battle reports to be entered as? (I'd assume 'like normal' but I figured it couldn't hurt, for the record).

Yes, there is! I do have a certain amount of OCD when it comes to this sort of thing. The format I use is as follows:
SYSTEM: Kruskan system
WINNER: Victory Line (2-8 Tournament points; 168-267 MoV)
OBJECTIVE: Advanced Gunnery
INITIATIVE: Chris
2nd GLADIATOR LINE (EMPIRE): Naboobo2000
Gladiator I-class Star Destroyer + Grand Moff Tarkin + Weapons Liaison + Engine Techs + Assault Concussion Missiles
Gladiator I-class Star Destroyer + Intel Officer + Sensor Team + Engine Techs + Expanded Launchers + Demolisher
Gladiator I-class Star Destroyer + Intel Officer + Sensor Team + Engine Techs + Expanded Launchers
VICTORY LINE (EMPIRE): Wtfboar
Victory I-class Star Destroyer + Admiral Screed + Intel Officer + XI7 Turbolaser + Assault Concussion Missiles + Dominator
Victory I-class Star Destroyer + Assault Concussion Missiles
Gladiator I-class Star Destroyer + Wulff Yularen + Engine Techs + Assault Concussion Missiles + Demolisher
If it's not a tournament game, don't worry about the Tournament points or the MoV. Also, if there were any aspects to how the game turned out or was played that lend themselves to adding spice or colorful detail to the news, then I'm happy to incorporate it when/if I can.
If you're not sure what system to name, that's fine, I can make that up later. At some point I am going to declare certain systems as locked down for one side or the other, at which point I'll just work your battle report in for a different system than you might have named. Also, in the beginning it just wouldn't be dramatically appropriate to go for systems like Dac or others that are close to Dac.
Oh gods! The yellow hurts!
Oh, you guys didn't retrograde your forum settings to the old forum style before they switched to blinding white?
Alright, I guess I'll change the font color in the OP.
As to other business, tomorrow evening (Monday 8/31) we're going to have a little tournament that I will use to describe the battles of Pakuuni and Caluula (posting here: Portland, OR - Battle for the Foster-Powell System - Foster-Powell is just the name of the neighborhood in which the game store is located).
Edited by Mikael HasselsteinUpdate:
After recent battles [incl. Sullust], the campaign to suppress the Mon Calamari uprising continues.
The Calamari sector is now under a blockade, with the Empire in full control of the Caluula and Pakuuni systems. Imperial battle lines are now gathering to close the fist around the Mon Calamari home world, while Rebels desperately work to bring ships to the front lines in order to hold off the might of the Imperial Navy.
Mon Cala Campaign

He should mention that those battle lines are wilting under the firepower of Akbar!
Update:
The Empire presses forward, bypassing Shaylin and taking Turkana. Doubt is sewn about the status of the Dellalt system, after the rebel flagship Blue Majesty was last seen taking refuge in an asteroid belt.
Will the Empire press on their advance while taking care of those rebel pockets left in their wake, or will the Rebellion halt their advance?

Here is another update:
After the events at last night's tournament (which Lyraeus describes here), the Rebels have made an effective counter-attack to the Empire's efforts to drive towards the Mon Calamari homeworld in order to capture its shipyards.
As the Empire regroups, the fear is that the Rebellion, as well as pirate and smuggler syndicates will be operating behind Imperial lines in order to take control over systems key to the Imperial blockade of the Calamari sector. (This will be at stake in an X-Wing tournament that I will be running tomorrow.)
The Imperial Orders have been updated to reflect this, but I'm hoping for external input for the Rebel side.

So, much has happened, and I have not kept the forum up to date.
When we last left the campaign (November 21st - see above), the Empire had been knocked back by the Rebels. Since then, however, the Empire turned the tide in a number of engagements. (Which call all be read about on HNN).
Two weeks ago, the Empire conquered all but the Mon Calamari homeworld itself. This past weekend, the Empire stood poised to crush the Rebellion and deprive it of its vital shipyards. Unfortunately, the Rebellion proved to be stalwart in its defense and Dac was saved - for the time being.

Now the Empire awaits reinforcements to make another attempt to crush the Rebellion and bring the Mon Calamari and Quarren to heel.
During the upcoming X-Wing Store Championship, the Rebellion will attempt to gain space superiority between Dac on the one side and Ruisto and Minntooine on the other. In that breach, they will attempt to lay mass-shadow mines that will prevent the next Imperial naval assault from happening (the Armada Store Championship at Guardian Games).
All this, and more, can be read on the Mon Cala Campaign website.
The Mon Cala Campaign has concluded.
The Empire took all the systems up to the Mon Calamari and Quarren homeworld, but in two store championships were unable to conquer the Dac System. In the meantime, the Rebellion placed mass-shadow mines along the hyperlanes leading in and out of the sector, which has placed the Calamari sector outside of the Empire's reach.

All this, and more, can be read on the Mon Cala Campaign website.
I love this idea, how about running it or something like it on vassal just for armada?

Thanks!
As I don't play on Vassal, and really have no intentions of doing so, I'm not particularly motivated. I have nothing against Vassal itself. I just need for a greater share of my actual gaming time to be face-to-face. As an online instructor, I already spend too much time on the computer, and I really need my down-time to be face-to-face. (Which is ironic, because developing this construct is totally computer-based.)
But nothing is stopping you from stealing my idea and doing it for your own group of Vassal players. I'm certainly not going to send IP-lawyers after you. ;-)
